Geoff Keighley is a hype merchant of masterful degrees, and the journalist turned host has once again been bigging up his upcoming The Game Awards livestream. The show – which will air this week – typically combines acknowledgement of the industry’s achievements with announcements and “world premieres”, and it sounds like the formula won’t be changing in its latest incarnation.
Speaking about the Elden Ring re-reveal, which Keighley delivered as part of his Summer Game Fest event earlier in the year, he hinted that we should expect more reveals on a similar scale during The Game Awards this week: “Oh God, there are probably four or five things of that level. I can’t wait to show people this stuff.”
It’s a cunning statement from Keighley, of course, because this sort of thing is always subjective. However, it’s undeniable Elden Ring generated significant hype, so it’s hard to think of anything that could match that level of enthusiasm – let along “four or five” of them. Then again, this is the same show that played host to the reveal of the Xbox Series X in the past, so there’s clearly precedent for major reveals.
The proof will be in the pudding, but keep your expectations on the ground just in case – it’s better to be pleasantly surprised, after all. You can find out when to watch The Game Awards through the link, and of course we’ll have live chat right here on Push Square if you want to enjoy it with us.

Bloodborne remake and sequel?
Geoff's great at foreplay but his overall performance often leaves his partners disappointed.
That is a BIG claim Keighley, I am so f HYPED!!!! I don't care for your awards I come for the announcements, which I've gotta say that Keighley shows actually bring some pretty cool announcements big and small.
@Futureshark maybe a remaster, no need to remake the game, possibly a sequel
Hmm that's quite a statement. Maybe Naughty Dog could grace us with Factions as one of the reveals? MGS3 remake? Persona anything? I bet Breath of the Wild 2 is one of them.
Since you guys don't make those fun prediction posts here are my predictions for 4 announcements:
Half-Life 3.
GTA 7.
FIFA 98 Road to World Cup Remastered.
KNACK 3, BABY!
See, he says this and then I’m watching footage of a battle royale spin-off of Blinx at 4AM.
@nessisonett Is this before or after Sting?
@AFCC We'll have a fun The Game Awards predictions quiz this year! Keep an eye out in the next couple of days!
(Knack 3 will be on there.)
I can't believe he actually pulled the "as great as the Elden Ring reveal" card.
Can anyone actually stand this, now literal Muppet? I haven't seen anyone this full of themselves since The Fonz. Or Kanye.
Likely will be let down, but it's hard to dislike Geoff. I think he works super hard at gaining attention to the industry. No one else is stepping up to do the things he is doing, so respect to him.
Why do we need 5 more Elden Ring games? We don't even know if the first one is going to be good. 😏
Actually, I'm inclined to believe him. Last year we were still suffering through the aftermath of a Covid lockdown world. Since then most devs have been back at the offices so I'll expect we should see a few announcements this year compared to the last.
The only thing I'm waiting (and won't probably happen) is a small FF16 trailer.
Same as the last few years, the most exciting announcement will be within the first 30 minutes and then we're all in for a very long night.
I have no expectations… yes, even after reading this article…which makes me a perfect candidate to enjoy the show. I suggest ya’ll do the same.
That being said… I wonder if Abandoned… errrr, I mean Silent Hill… Errr, I mean Metal Gear Solid… err… Abandoned will be shown.
Naaaahhhhh I have no expectations.
My dream announcements would be, the rumored Marvel game from NetherRealm and the revival of Motorstorm. Followed by, whatever Naughty Dog is working on. I pretty much hated TLoU2, but am interested in whatever they are working on because it is always high quality.
With my buddy not liking TLoU2, and also not liking the announcement that Horizon and GoW are NOT PS5 games it really benefits me as he said he won’t pay full price for them and will be happy to split them with me and I can give them to him whenever.
@NEStalgia Elon? 🤷♂️
And it's just Ye now, gotta keep up. 😉
@rjejr Elon has a Monopoly on Earth's most powerful space vessels. He's the only one allowed the ego of Dr. Evil without it actually being inappropriate....
The ultimate hype man.
Meh. He hypes this show up every year, and they rarely have anything I actually care about.
We'll see.... I somewhat dislike the way he usually over-hypes things when it comes to his gaming events.
@OmegaStriver The fact that you felt the need to write that last paragraphs baffles me. It is absolutely redundant.
Hoping for bioshock & maybe the rumoured switch exclusive resident evil or the dlc for village
Keighley should pair up with Molyneaux....
@rjejr and I just figured out what you meant with the whole "Ye"thing which I didn't know about and it makes my head spin. Note to Yeezy, don't make your name a noun in middle English. Prince did better with an unpronounceable symbol. 🙄
Yea people are going to blame him again for hyping his event. Why wouldn’t he? What do you want him to say? Haha
Yes I believe there’s going to be a few good reveals. People are going to blame him because they aren’t into those games no doubt. 🤷🏼♂️
Look at Elden Ring for instance. You could say it’s worth hype a whole event for it only. Then others will whine and have a tantrum because they feel misled not being into that at all.
What is sad and the crucial point is when journalists pile on him while they were the ones amplifying what he says and all for their own benefits. Who posts big headlines?
One of them is HellBlade 2 according to Jeff Grub.
I don't think he is necessarily saying that the reveals will be for equally hyped games so much as just been exclusive first-time reveals for big games. That said, I tend to assume nothing will come out of these events haha.
@Kidfried lol. I seem to get a comment about my username often lol. Usually it is more that I'm not cynical enough to live up to it.
@JJ2 the difference between we have 4 or 5 games to be revealed on the level of the most hyped game and saying I have a great show something for everyone tune in. Jeff is often hyperbolic and treading the line of saying just enough not to be held accountable for his outlandish statements when inevitably every year doesn't live up to the hype. The same way a car salesman sells you a crappy car. At the time he's your buddy cutting you a deal. Only next time you buy your far more alert to his tactics.
@Alan_cartridge_
It’s from a full interview and the press takes out of context making headlines. I think he means to the level of collaborating with the studios and preparing the reveal all keeping it secret. Doesn’t mean you will like the game reveal. Again it’s the press that put emphasis on the phrase hyping the level of the reveals. From the man point of view it’s easy to understand important game reveals reach a high level of stress and excitement.
‘
In June this year, after two years of people begging for it to be at Keighley’s shows, the first gameplay trailer was shown off for Elden Ring, the next game from Dark Souls developer FromSoftware. If you watch the reveal back now, you can see the satisfaction in Keighley’s face as he says the name.
“That was two or three years in the making,” Keighley says. “Every show got questions about it, and even last year’s Game Awards, people really wanted something. It won Most Anticipated Game, but they weren’t ready There was a lot of built-up pressure. And that’s the thing I think people don’t realize – the things they want, sometimes developers just aren’t ready to show them. There will be things again this year, I’m sure, where it’s like, we want to show things, but they’re just not ready.
“I was very happy because the trailer was great. It was a great asset, a highly anticipated game that really delivered. There were a lot of things that were good about that so yes, I was uniquely excited to be able to bring that to people. This year? Oh, God, there are probably four or five things of that level. I can’t wait to show people this stuff. Summer Game Fest was a new thing that I had created. The fact that FromSoftware bet on me and Summer Game Fest where they could have done more traditional E3 stuff, that meant a lot to me. It was a huge honor to work with the From guys, so stay tuned, there may be more coming.”
Edit
He just sounds quite genuine in this interview and it’s something I appreciate. It’s mainly saying how he feels.
For instance I think Hellblade will be re revealed. From his point of view it sounds like a similar preparation, stress, anticipation. From a certain fan base point of view it’s certainly anticipated in a similar way even though I don’t really care and that’s far from Elden Ring from my point of view. The point though is it’s the press doing the out of context over statement and the focus on the level. He is only talking passionately about his show like a normal human being.
I like Geoff and he has done a LOT for the industry but he rivals Peter Molyneux in self promotion
Vagrant Story II. Betting my mortgage on it...
@nessisonett legit want that
So.. elden ring 2, demon's soul 2, bloodborne 2, and dark soul 4?
All this pomp for what could be a few tweets attached to short video clips. It's so strange how announcements of announcements has become such a thing.
Bring us Astrobot 3 please Geoff. It's the threequel the world needs. Astro Vs Omicron in new VR. Come on Astro we got this bro!
I'm hoping to see PSVR2!
...but realistically it will probably be something I don't care about at all, like Destiny 3.
Saw some new horizon gameplay earlier...don't know if it was a leak or not, but it look awesome. So I reckon that will show more in some fashion. Prob god of war too.
I'm really hoping for some new IPs though to get excited about...although, at the same time, I'm not at all interested in seeing games that won't be out for years to come. No cgi trailers please...big ask for this show.
@Shepherd_Tallon Hi there friend. Better not. Might lose your house..... But I would love it to be true.
My crazy wishes are:
Give those games and I´ll cry tears of joy.
Will see what the future brings.
Kinda excited for those anouncements now.
Cheers, stay safe good people and happy gaming to us all
Final Fantasy VII Part I, please.
Other titles I'm looking forward to (ME 4, Spider-Man 2) are too far away.
@NEStalgia You drive a Tesla, don't you. 😉
As says the Doritos King! … so I’m relating the 4 or 5 to the over/under on Doritos/mountain dew ads during the show. I’m going with the over!
@NEStalgia "which I didn't know about"
That was the "gotta keep up" part. 😁 It's been a whole 6 weeks since he made it legal.
https://pitchfork.com/news/kanye-west-legally-changes-name-to-ye/
If his next album isn't titled "Hear Ye, Hear Ye" it was all for nothing. 😂
Edit: You do get credit for that joke. 👍
@ShogunRok YES! I love the prediction quiz!
Knack 3 GOTY 2022 of course
Ill trade you 4 reveals for a Legend of Dragoon remake or even a highend remaster at this point. No FF7R remake just a graphics upgrade and i will be ecstatic this FF7 takes way to long for me.
@rjejr If I could get the sticker to stick to the rust, that's what it would say on the back! I noticed even FH5 doesn't have Teslas in it. Yet all I see around here are Teslas.... There's like 5 in every parking lot, guaranteed.
OMG, it's a legally changed name....it was bad enough when I thought it was his latest self-reference with ridiculous naming, but no, it's an actual name.
Bear Ye West to'rd coastland
Bear Ye West to'rd coastland
'Got unto thineself bountiful Benjamins
Verily, also, many ignoble ladies of unsavory nature
May thineself perform acts of self defilement upon thine own flesh, good sir
May thineself reprehense thine trousers, good sir
-Ye (Muther$$$$$$)
Do I get a Grammy now? Or at least a Keighley?
@NEStalgia You can have Drake's Grammy, he bowed out.
WHY do I know all of this?!?! Why?😝
Can you work Ye's kids names into that song, I think it's manageable: Psalm, Saint, North, Chicago.
To make this on topic - GK needs to change his first name to Gust and his last name to Ke so when people ask him what his name is he can reply Gust Ke'ddin'. 😂
My uncle at Nintendo says Sting will perform "GK Rap" at The Game Awards. G. K. Geoff Keighly.
@RaZieLDaNtE Alas, a new Vagrant Story is nothing more than a wish for now.
But I would love to see a teaser for Bloodborne 2.
@rjejr You know far, far more about pop culture than can possibly be healthy. What, do you have TMZ in the background all day or something? Head Ye North West OMG I can't do this, it hurts my brain so badly I can feel each brain cell as it flees in horror....
I picture Keighley is the kind of person who speaks in third person most of the time. I know he doesn't, but I picture it anyway. And he has the same stuff-eating grin as Zuck. I want to smack him in the face with a cheese grater every time I see him.
@NEStalgia GK and Zuck are both SNL characters but I see them very differently. Zuck is the strange looking weirdo quiet guy you want to punch in the face, and GK is the really annoying guy who wants everybody to like them but they all just want to punch him in the face.
GK and Sting backstage preparing for TGA (2:20).
@rjejr Priceless!
elden ring
adulten ring
teenagen ring
children ring
infen ring
The complete package is called " Ring of Life"
Here you go guys.
Are we finally getting a sequel to Bibi & Tina at The horse farm?!
The rumoured Chrono Cross Remake is bound to be one of them.
I'm trying to keep my expectations low but would love to see some big game reveals.
Hopefully Keighley doesn't let us down this year...
