It's time to take up arms and storm the castle gates — Chivalry 2 is free to play for a limited time on PlayStation 5 and PS4. A free trial for the medieval melee multiplayer title is available right now, allowing you to try it out without whipping out your wallet.

The first-person game of swords and shields pits players against each other on two sides of a war, and it's simply about battering the opposing side with vicious attacks. We'd say it's well worth checking out if you have time free this weekend. As well as the game's traditional battles, the trial also includes Merry Chivmas, a festive mode featuring snowball fights and other daft holiday-themed stuff. The trial lasts from now through to 12th December, so it's only up for a couple of days.

The trailer above also gives us a look at a new free content update, House Aberfell, which introduces a new weapon and a new objective — capturing peasants and livestock. The update is due early next year.
