There may be interest for PlayStation fans watching The Game Awards 2021 this evening, as Neil Druckmann will present one of the awards. The Last of Us 2 obviously won last year’s gong during lockdown, so it’s possible Geoff Keighley wanted the Naughty Dog vice president to be there in person this year, although it does raise questions about whether his cameo will lead to any reveals.
We know that the Sony first-party studio has its fingers in a number of pies, spanning the upcoming Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, The Last of Us: Part II’s long-overdue multiplayer mode, The Last of Us’ television show, the Uncharted movie, and the alleged remake of Joel and Ellie’s inaugural adventure. There’s a lot of World Premiere potential right there.
In other news, Guerrilla’s Mathijs de Jonge has been active on Twitter, sending fire emojis in response to Keighley’s comments about the impending awards. Could we see a new Horizon Forbidden West trailer at all? The game’s out in February, so it wouldn’t be out of the question, would it? All will be revealed in a matter of hours.

I'm keeping my expectations for anything PlayStation at this event extremely low. Maybe (MAYBE) a HFW story trailer, but that's it.
@RBMango Same. Obviously there'll be multiformat games, but I'm not expecting much from Sony.
Hopefully he's presenting Best Game or similar. I'm a fan of having the previous years winner present the awards over getting some Hollywood schmoe to do so.
Sadly 1am start is too late considering how long winded the whole thing is. It ended past 4am last year! I'll catch up on it all tomorrow.
I'm not expecting much...but I'm still expecting there to be more than just advertising pc ports and TV TV TV.
I'm hoping we'll see gameplay of things already been announced. Stray would be nice.
@RBMango Yeah for sure.
After dropping KoToR and Wolverine, showing the Spidey 2 and God of War trailers, and with Horizon around the corner, they have to be feeling like any other big announcements can wait for 2022.
Meaningless awards show now becomes even more meaningless
They're done with Uncharted so I'm not expecting any Naughty Dog announcements that will be of interest to me.
Some Factions 2 crumbs, please.
@Uncharted2007 you know what, I wouldn’t have pegged you as an Uncharted fan
I’m still confused why we need a remake of a 2013 game that is already playable on PS4/5. Besides those stupid ‘have Ellie ride the pallet’ sections the game holds up well.
Another good reason not to watch.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah... I get that a lot. 🤣
Ewww this just got a lot worse...
I wouldn't be surprised if they do a "first look" at that HBO series.
Not expecting anything major tonight, so I definitely won't be rushing back from the airport to catch this live. We'll see.
@Stragen8 has it been confirmed there doing a remaster , they already remastered it from PS3 to PS4 so that would be a re remaster , I wouldn't buy it anyway because I already own it on ps4 & it looks & plays perfectly fine to me
I don’t even really like Naughty Dog games that much but I find the hate for Druckmann bizarre. People were lauding The Last of Us as the ‘best game ever’ for years and last I checked he wrote and directed it.
The Last of Us II is the proof of how far behind Hollywood the video game industry is when it comes to writing. If it was released as a movie it would be subpar at best, with several contrived plot points yet some people think it's a masterpiece in storytelling. Also the gameplay is absolutely nothing to write home about.
Neil Druckmann is not very likable in interviews too, but at least no accusations about anything horrible being done by him.
I'm not a fan of him or his writing but it could be worse.
I still don’t get the hate for TLOU 2. I loved the story and it impacted me more than a 2 hour movie ever could. Spending hours, getting you to the point of hating a character, then switching to having to play as her for hours?!? Made me so mad at first but I love how they did it.
@nessisonett when did you last check, though?
@nessisonett he & Bruce straley basically forced Amy Henning out of naughty dog & for the last of us part 2 he brought Anita Sarkeesian on to help write it
Weird world we live in where a talented guy like this gets more hate than some company stooge like 'Uncle' Phil.
He's probably there to hype up the wonderful PC release of those two Uncharted games. Factions is the next Skull and Bones or whatever it's called, still be waiting for it in 2/3 year's time.
@Would_you_kindly Really trying to start the Gamergate sh*te up again?
@Pat_trick Sure, but all games (on average) would pale in comparison to a similar movie, so that's not a fair reason to dig at a video game. For a video game, I'd say TLOU2 does have good writing ('masterpiece' admittedly is going a bit far).
@Stragen8 Agreed to an extent (still playing TLOU2, about 5 hours in). I don't know what the haters were expecting after how TLOU1 ending. Do they realise that TLOU1 didn't have anything close to a happy ending?
That all being said, I'm enjoying TLOU2, but am finding the plot a bit predictable. ('Revenge is pointless and will only hurt the people you care about and corrupt you', got it) I've got a pretty good idea of who will (and won't) die, but hopefully I'm proven wrong.
@Would_you_kindly If you're talking about TLOU1, that's a remake they're apparently making, not a remaster.
@Would_you_kindly ssh don't think your supposed to mention that...
@nessisonett you asked why people don't like him
@Fyz306903 I thought that too, but it takes some turns I didn’t expect.
How do you feel about the gameplay?
I loved the gunplay and felt like the enemy AI is leagues ahead of any other game I’ve played.
@Pat_trick The same can be said about Last Of Us 1. It's filled with cliches and predictable moments. At least Last Of Us 2 had some awesome surprises. It's a MUCH better game in my opinion.
@Bismarck I think it's superior when it comes to gameplay, story wise I disagree. It's true that it has surprises but I don't think they add to the story, they mostly appear just to be shocking.
I don't think being more unpredictable makes a story better. A good example is The Last Jedi, a film full of twists that don't feel earned. But let me be clear that I don't think TLOU 2 has a plot as bad as the Last Jedi, I just felt like it was trying too hard to shock.
What he done with LOUS 2 and his woke casting (input) of the TV show hopefully he won't show.
@get2sammyb @RBMango same but I think Sony is being dumb again. This is the biggest gaming event of the year (has been since E3 died basically), so they should take advantage of the amount of eyes that will be watching

Never mind that where the hell is Spyro 4. Can't do a new Crash title and not do Spyro its unnatural.
Removed - unconstructive
@Would_you_kindly Let's face it, most people despise him because of the controversy surrounding The Last of Us Part 2. Only a small handful of people would be able to tell you who wrote a game's storey, let alone the politics around the writers. I believe the Last of Us Part 2 was a daring game to develop, and I'll always encourage people who take chances in an industry full of copy-and-paste titles, however, a small loud community tend to disagree and treat him as a villain.
@Rambolike Don't attack him for trying to be a 'good' person. You need to understand that people like you and him are in a never ending loop of nonsense.
One day there will be a story on here about The Last of Us series and it won't attract a load of weirdos.
Not yet though, not yet.

@kyleforrester87 Yay Christmas Kyle is back!
Nothing 'daring' about his writing at all just through everything you can think of into the diversity pot and see what comes out
@RBMango Xbox is the only one of the 3 platform holders that really need to showcase anything at the Game Awards.
Nintendo has Pokemon Legends Arceus in January and TPC does their own thing so outside of Legends Arceus news sometime within the next month could stay silent until the usual February Direct slot. Sony has the Uncharted Collection, HFW and GT7 so could do their own event(s) within the next 2 months. Meanwhile Xbox has nothing happening until summer 2022 now that Halo Infinite is released.
@Stragen8 Yeah, the gameplay is very fun. Appreciate the accessibility options, too. (Games with mandatory rapid-button tapping are almost unplayable for me, now). Upgrading the weapons is fun, too. However, I HATE how you have to find those books to unlock skill trees, though. Shoots my 'I'm missing something' anxiety through the roof. First World Problems and all, but I'd have much rather all skill trees be unlocked from the start.

How out of the question is any last of us multiplayer news ? I am so bummed this year every online shooter has sucked I need something to look forward to in the multiplayer space.
@Fyz306903 I spend the 2nd half of the game rushing through gameplay sections and I still managed to find every book. The developers made sure that I will pick them up eventually.
@Col_McCafferty yesyes it’s everyone else 😉
@Bismarck True with the wall of text, So I'll keep it short. Yes a good chunk of the story makes sense and it is overall better than TLOU, but the ending spoiled most of the experience to me. But I can see from your point of view where you consider TLOU 2 to have superior storytelling.
@MyThoughts31 Preach it my dude!
@Col_McCafferty Exactly, one of these days we'll stop seeing crazy and bizarre comments like "TLOU2 isn't dreadful"
all my hopes are shattered
@Pat_trick
I agree with that.
I will say that from an artistic, graphical, and technical standpoint the Last of Us II is state of the art and a masterpiece in those areas.
Unfortunately the contrived and predictable story really holds it back. Plus some writing issues that plagued the experience and it’s poor pacing.
But I’ll give it credit. The game is drop dead beautiful and the artistic vision is second to none in the industry. It really makes you feel like you’re in a ruined Seattle.
