‘Tis the season, and if you’d forgotten, well the gaming industry’s going to goddamn ram it down your throat before December’s done and dusted. Speaking of dust, the Ridge in Riders Republic has been given a makeover, as Winter Bash gets underway. There are a ton of new rewards to discover as part of the release’s inaugural in-game event, as well as a new sport: the Jumbo Bike.
Ubisoft has been busy behind-the-scenes, adding tons of new activities, reworking multiplayer divisions, and even improving the visual quality of “water and rivers”. To be honest, we’ve fallen off this game a little since reviewing it earlier in the year, and with so many other games demanding our attention with winter events, we’re not sure we’re ready to get back on the saddle just yet.
Maybe next season, eh, Ubisoft?

Seems like they are doing cool things. I like this game a lot but for some reason I don't go back to it very often...but if they keep adding events, and even new vehicles, the game will eventually pull me back in...maybe not now though lol
Edit: Nevermind, it's paid DLC xD
Hmm. Seems like this update leans into the parts of Rider’s Republic that I like the least. The skiing and biking are excellent, the National Park locations are incredible, but the style of the game grates. Also, I would pay for DLC that would let me permanently leave the radio station on the one that plays the Boards of Canada tracks. If I have to hear that horrendous “black and yellow” song again I’ll lose it.
I didn't think I'd enjoy this game, I bought it on a whim after watching SkillUp playing it, and it turned out to be hilarious fun. Those mass races will have you chortling and pulling your hair out at the same time. People really should give it a go.
Alas though it doesn't look like any new trophies to accompany this update. Surely trophies should be mandatory with DLC by now?
@lolwhatno it's about a bee I think
@Amnesiac BoC are on the soundtrack?? Thats kinda cool, my fav music on the planet for the past 22 years lol. I'm guessing its The Campfire HP album thats used?
I only heard of this game yesterday with the announcement of the DLC.
At the moment I am obsessed with SSX Tricky on my PS2 again.
Looking for a PS4 or Xbox One game like SSX.... is this possibly a good substitute?
@readyletsgo Yup, Dayvan Cowboy makes an appearance, but surprisingly a track called XYZ that I wasn’t familiar with turns up as well. They’re both on an in-game radio station called Horizon Chill that has quite a few good tracks. BoC make such fantastic music, I just wish there wasn’t such a wait between releases.
SSX Tricky was such a great game! Rider’s Republic is way more toned down, especially in the tricks department. There’s still good fun to be had, and a whole trick battle part section that I haven’t delved into yet, but there’s nothing as flamboyant as the gravity defying stuff in SSX. That game needs a proper remaster.
@Amnesiac XYZ! Thats one of their more harder tracks, it was from their John Peel Sessions back in 1999. Got an official release in 2019. Glad to know this, thanks man.
I think BoC are well overdue a new album. Its been 9 years. Fingers crossed for next year.
I took the plunge and bought it on Xbox, its on sale there with the pass of €59.99. First game I've bought since Skyward Sword so, gonna get stuck in after work.
And Yes, would Love a remake/remaster collection of Tricky and 3. Wonder if EA could do it.
I think, just update the soundtrack and change the voice actors in Tricky and it should be fine. Would be amazing wouldn't it.
Must be something stopping EA because it would sell gangbusters on everything.
This game was actually very good which surprised me. Had a great time playing it but like you said, with so many games coming out lately it’s hard to keep playing it.
