Outside of the ever-popular Star Trek Online, there’s alarmingly little for Trekkies to dig into on consoles these days. We quite enjoyed the co-operative PSVR title Star Trek: Bridge Crew, but it’s been slim-picking beyond that. Dramatic Labs’ upcoming narrative adventure Star Trek: Resurgence will stir attention, then; it’s coming to the PlayStation 5 and PS4 next year.
For those not familiar with the developer, this is a new team comprised of Telltale Games alumni, and you can certainly see the influence in the release’s debut trailer. As you’d expect, this will be less about action and more about decision making, as you influence the outcome of the story based upon the things you say and the judgment calls you make.
The title’s set shortly after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and stations you aboard the U.S.S. RESOLUTE. “Players will assume the role of two principal characters, First Officer Jara Rydek and Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz, as they unravel a sinister mystery involving two alien civilisations on the brink of war,” the press release explains.
It continues: “Throughout the game, players will immerse themselves in the Star Trek universe, interacting with new and returning characters through a variety of dialogue and action gameplay to determine the course of the story.” You can check out the debut trailer above, which should give you a good idea of what you can expect come launch.

@RogerRoger Could be promising!
I don’t know much about these games but thought the Expanse one looked better
How awesome would a big budget AAA Star Trek be if it was set in an open world as a 3rd person shooter type game. Some flying and flight combat of course but mostly where you’re in control of a person
It seems Star Trek is taking a page from the way Mass Effect played. Interesting. I like the era this is set in so it definitely has potential.
I like this, true for St fans it's slim pickings I still play St games from 18 years ago its that bad.
Why has to be a cheap and telltale style game , sigh..
Please make a full action adventure rpg star trek game. With 3rd person and tactical space action too, exploration.
I'd love a decent new star trek game, though i wasn't really a fan of the post walking dead telltale games, felt a bit empty without the puzzles.
@Uncharted2007 Why EA hasn't commissioned a TellTale-style Mass Effect game to tide us over until the next AAA installment, I'll never know.
Whilst this might be ok. I agree with others a proper Star Trek action RPG could be epic.
Set Phasers To Stun = Taking Back Sunday
if you know, you know : )
> don't care about Star Trek but if ya do,enjoy!
Not keen on them using a sound alike for Leonard Nimoy. They could have gone down the route of aging the Discovery Spock and it wouldn't have felt like a cheap cash in.
It looks cheap to be honest. Trailer reminds me of a PS3 game from the first half of the gen. A Star Trek game could be cool, but I don’t think it’ll be very good from what they showed.
@Stocksy @Jtheripper @kingbreww Same thoughts here. I'll play Resurgence of course, but would much prefer a Trek game similar to Jedi: Fallen Order or Force Unleashed.
(Yes I know those two are Star Wars, not Star Trek)
omg this is BIG. Gona have to rewatch TNG , wonder of they take the books in as cannon to? picards enterprise was in the Dominion war to. so looking forward to this game.
@kingbreww
Sadly it would likely just play like an inferior Mass Effect
@PegasusActual93 yeh, no way would it get the budget it would require
@KidBoruto yes, that or like the old trek pc space tactical combat game series, been so long i even forget their names, was a top down pov.
Or ideally a mix of both 3rd person action adventure like fallen jedi and tactical space action.
That would make my day.
Cheers.
