Crytek has confirmed that Crysis 4 is in development. The news comes via a rather abstract teaser trailer, which ends with a big '4' and the words 'Join the journey. Become the hero.' Crazy to think that it's been nine years since Crysis 3 landed on PlayStation 3.
Beyond that, we don't really have any details. In the official press release, Crytek says it's a shooter (gasp!), and that it's "in the early stages of development". It's going to be quite some time until we see this thing in action, then. No release window or platforms have been specified.
If you can't wait that long for some Crysis action, then you could always check out the recent Crysis Remastered Trilogy. While the collection couldn't quite break beyond a 6/10 in our review, it's still good value for money, and there's definitely fun to be had in its super-powered FPS gameplay.
What do you want from Crysis 4 (other than for it to be on a PlayStation console)? Cloak yourself in the comments section below.

It's amazing how far Crytek fell. Crysis was been pushed as a big AAA IP and the CryEngine they hoped would adopted as much as Unreal. Then money issues happened.
I really liked Crysis 2 and 3 back on PS3 (and thought Crysis 1 was OK on PC)... haven't tried the remasters though.
Once the title is announced, more details are bound to follow soon. Right, The Elder Scrolls VI?
I love the Crysis games so this is awesome to hear. I just hope they offer up a really good entry with a nice long campaign, some cool new weapons and a solid, tight MP.
will it live up to can it run crysis legendary legacy?
It's been 9 years. Why announce it so early during development? Anything can happen in the next few years it'll take. By the time it's finished there may be a shooter made that makes it look old hat. Building hype for the sake of it when all that could come of it is disappointment.
Make announcements when the game is a year from being ready to launch so that it won't suffer from any crunch to reach a deadline, gets released before it's ready to meet a launch date or have us peak too soon/bored of hearing about it.
Enemy AI on a similar level to the soldiers in F. E. A. R. would be a good start. It was laughable in all the other games.
Crysis is one of the dreariest, dullest third-party franchises in my opinion.
@riceNpea We're seeing more of these kind of announcements lately. It's to drive recruitment. Basically, they think if they announce what they're working on, they have a better chance of hiring staff.
Same thing happened yesterday with all the Star Wars announcements.
Please don’t make it cross gen!
@get2sammyb interesting points to make but takes away some of the buzz of the game and HEAPS pressure on teams to deliver via grind
The best devs often think about their future years in advance given their talents are in demand. These announcements can generate buzz and make these types curious.
heres the question everyone needs answered when is dead space coming out?
@get2sammyb ahh so are these not so much announcements as things people have seen on LinkedIn or something similar?
@riceNpea They're official announcements, but they're aimed more at recruitment than consumers.
For example, in yesterday's Star Wars press release, there was literally a quote from Zampella saying words to the effect of "if you like Star Wars come and get a job here".
I guess the theory is that people might actively seek out employment at these studios because they want to work on Star Wars/Crysis/whatever the game is.
Are they going to optimise the engine this time around? "Will it run crysis" has always been a bit of a joke in the PC space.
Thanks for the heads-up concerning the release, much appreciated.
Glad that Crysis online modes like near all Ubisoft titles are P2P meaning that even when servers are closed, achievement and trophies are still obtainable. Means completion of all 7 games will be possible.
Oh great, so now we have the next 4-6 years of asking "but will it run Crysis 4" with every piece of hardware that comes out.
I've played them all, but there is nothing special about these games, which is a huge shame as it did have alot of potential.
crytek is dead in all but its name at this point. keep expectations low.
Crysis was alright but Crysis 2 & 3 where far better. Crysis was made for PC it was never designed around a controller & it shows. Crysis 2 movement os so much more fluid. I've been playing well finished Crysis & started Crysis 2 on GamePass Ultimate, a shame I cannot find a public match online. But the nostalgia trip from a MP map (forget it's name), it was the Crysis2 multiplayer Beta. Green house's on a skyscraper, a good map how it was laided out. I hope Crysis 4 has Multiplayer like Crysis 2/3.
Oh please just move on. It's basically 3d mark with a bit of gameplay but no personality trickled onto it.
i agree with all the comments. it was always a shallow franchise . only cared about 2 because it was on a whim of a time when i bothered to still play campaigns and it had multiplayer . didn’t care about 3 though because 2 was “meh” . crysis 1 was super boring when i tried to play it too .
