God of War is currently the second best-selling game on PC marketplace Steam, behind only the newly released Monster Hunter Rise. Despite originally launching all the way back in 2018, Sony is flogging Kratos’ Norse outing for £39.99/$49.99 on PC – while it’s available on the PlayStation 4 for practically pennies these days.
To be fair, Sony Santa Monica has done a good job porting the epic to PC, as we explained in our hands on earlier today. The game’s attracting rave reviews as a result: it currently commands a 93 on reviews aggregate website Metacritic, following 41 glowing critiques. That’s only a point less than the PS4 original achieved in 2018.
As mentioned above, you can read more about God of War’s PC port through here. Are you planning to wield the Leviathan Axe once more before Ragnarok arrives later this year? Call it back in the comments section below.

Aka get ready cause the flood gates are about to open even more, can't really blame Jim too much cause regardless of what your stance is on putting games on Steam he's making easy fast money for Sony 🤷
Who knows maybe it can turn into more of a positive and they put on Steam the Gravity Rush games and they can drum up support for a new game, although I don't know who would make said game.
The port was done by Jetpack Interactive. Sony Santa Monica probably supervised the project and made sure justice was done to their game, but plaudits should be given to a relatively small studio for doing such a fantastic job.
Great to see Sony making quality PC ports. I know PC players will be happy and in turn gets more games in the pipeline for console players alike!
Super supportive of the big three being more liberal with where their titles land. Within reason naturally. This was a smart move.
Better rename this site Push Space. PlayStation is over, it's all PC now.
When PlayStation 5 games are released on PCs, the advantages of PlayStation 5 will inevitably decrease.
I’m excited for those who haven’t played this to finally experience it. Brilliant game.
Good plan to give the PC players a taste of God of War. When Ragnarok comes out and they announce the port is like a year or two off the just might sell more PlayStations to the PC players that just can't wait for more of these amazing games.
I vote for literally zero games to be ported to PS5 that originally released on PC. Let’s see how the saddos cope then.
@ATaco "more PlayStations to the PC players that just can't wait for more of these amazing games."
Yeah sorry this statement is nonsense, yes Sony is making money putting them on Steam but don't think for a second the hardcore PC crowd will run to stores to buy a console just to play a sequel that will probably look and run worse for them then the first game they experienced on Ultra settings (plus mouse + keyboard).
@Juanalf Well then it sounds like they'll be waiting a couple years to play it "optimally" then. I'll let 'em know how fun Ragnarok is I guess.
Jetpack Interactive acquisition incoming?
@ATaco There is no wrong time to play single player games
@Juanalf if we were still on ps4 hardware i'd say your comment was accurate but we are not..god of war was a ps4 game and the pc has just had its port of the ps5 version and there is not much between them..i would have expected much more in terms of graphical fidelity on the pc especially from the pc setup push square used..i like pc games but i prefer ps5 because of the ease of everything..pc's are not going to run ps5 ports much better than the original ps5 game unless coded side by side i guess..a really good pc setup should mop the floor with consoles but its not so clear cut now..the gulf between the 2 formats is now a mere gap and its only going to get better for console owners..get ready to spend £100's to keep up with ps5..happy days..
@Bismarck You just have to deal with the whole FOMO thing. Seeing all your friends ranting and raving about the game while you sit there waiting and hoping it eventually comes to PC. (Bloodborne, anyone?)
@Trajan i agree with you..it should be easier to port existing games between formats but for some reason there are always issues..look at the recent final fantasy 7 port to pc..lacklustre would be the polite comment to make..ports are always going to be the lazy,quick cash injection model favored for older games but god of war in this instance appears to be the exception to the rule and i'm really glad pc gamers that dont wish to lower their standards and buy a console get to play this how it was intended..game on..
@ATaco a good game is a good game. If the game resist the test of time, then you can play it even after 10 years. I only played tlou last year because i never had a ps4. Guess what, the game was still amazing!
I have no issue with Sony porting old PS4 games to PC as long as it doesn’t distract the origin studio from PlayStation focus and development.
@Milktastrophe
It’s a tough choice. There’s PushSpace, PushGP, PushXxx. A headache for a new name 😅
@JJ2 @Milktastrophe PushSpaceBar PushWASD
Glad more gamers get to experience what for me is one of the best games of all time. A great balance of compelling gameplay, alongside a wonderful narrative. It oozes class from start to finish.
@nessisonett lol
But can’t support cutting off our noses to spite their faces.
Glad it's reviewed well. It's a top game and I hope to see more ports over to PC. A lot of my mates have PC's (I do too but I'm a tech fiend so buy everything...)and it would be good for them to enjoy these amazing exclusives.
It's always nice to have an option in where to play. I finished Dragon Age Origins recently and it played like ***** on the Xbox Series X (fugly) but tried it on PC and the difference was world's apart. PC gamers need access to these games so they can play how they want to play too. The XSX and PS5 are limited still which is why we are offered fidelity/performance modes. PC players can have both and not have to compromise.
@Milktastrophe @Kopite @JJ2
Press Any Key.
Come on now.
@Texan_Survivor Agreed. Its only a bunch of wet wipes who complain about a 4 year old game being ported.
Can't wait until The Last of Us is out on PC too! (and Bloodborne)
I don't own a gaming rig, but I'm so glad to see Playstation games doing so well outside of Playstation. Great news.
This may be an unpopular opinion but if they continue bringing pc games i would like to see them have their own client so i can continue playing through there switching between devices and bring trophies into them.
Anyone wondering why Sony are releasing their games on PC, this is why. It makes complete business sense, and will only serve to improve playstation overall, by increaing the amount of resource they can pump into exclusive titles, 3rd party deals, and studio acquisitions.
Given God of War has been out since 2018, the number of sales it was likely to continue to generate on PS hardware alone would have been tiny

Good for pc gamers to enjoy this game I play all my modern games on the ps5 but I still keep a decent pc around for the likes of red alert 2 ( ALL c&c games) and startrek games like starfleet command bridge commander and armada.
As these games don't get made anymore.
@ATaco You act like PC gamers care... PC gamers are use to waiting an untold amount of years for a game to come to their platform. They can wait two years to play the sequel.
The one who can't wait are the one who was planning on buying a PS5 already.
@Floki And you act like there hasn't been constant port begging. It's why I brought up Bloodborne.
@ATaco Port begging means they want the game to just come to the platform. People dont care if it next week or 5 years from now.
@Juanalf "don't think for a second the hardcore PC crowd will run to stores to buy a console just to play a sequel that will probably look and run worse for them then the first game they experienced on Ultra settings (plus mouse + keyboard)."
Jeez could you be more of a pc fanboy? nobody who just loves games give a flip. I have seen plenty of people say they will get a ps5 just for the horizon forbidden west after playing it on pc. who cares about a slightly better resolution and shadows. the game at it's core will be the same. most people won't even be able to play it on ultra settings. lol
Dam, I was hoping it would FLOP HARD on PC Now good old Jim Ryan will think let's bring all PlayStation games to PC & day 1 to :-/ I really hate this from SONY. Oh well.
The hate here is really sad. Doubt any of you complain when long time PC franchises or new/popular PC games make their way over to your favorite platform. Even though you guys are a small vocal minority, i find it pretty embarrassing for both Sony and Push Square to have these kind of comments coming from "fans"
I hope my comment isn't breaking any community rules, but I think it's pretty mild compared to many of the comments on this article alone. Such a shame.
@darksoul77
Have you been playing RA2 on Windows 10? It refuses to run for me even in compatibility mode. Would love to play it again.
@ryanburnsred
Well I want Star Wars TOR MMO on consoles with cross play so I can play it with my Xbox friend. 10 years and still waiting.
@dasd2 I think this will happen at the advent of PlayStation 6. So far it is a brilliant advertising campaign to bring new players to the platform. In this case, to play Ragnarok.
@nessisonett Can't imagine a game developer voluntarily avoiding the biggest money generating platform outside of mobile
@Juanalf Hardcore PC crowd is a minority of PC sales. it is good to appeal them as they are very active online, but game developers know, they aren't those who their game should be directed to
I admire the genius of Sony's approach to PC gaming. By releasing their games on PC years after the PlayStation release, they maximize sales on their platform before then opening a new revenue stream. That is opposite of Microsoft's approach in which they split all the sales from the start. Considering Sony very much wants to sell you hardware and get you into their ecosystem, they are doing things the way I would. As a PC Gamer first and console gamer second, I still feel there is value to having a PS5 as I can play Sony's games right away if I wanted. However, I have decided I have zero need for an Xbox Series X because I can play Xbox games on PC often for $1 or less via Game Pass (as it doesn't make sense to buy their games anymore).
Also, God of War is the #1 selling game on Steam as of this moment.
@GADG3Tx87 yes I play it on Windows 10 under compatibility mode.
I do have to start origin first for some reason then I just click on play and it runs.
It runs smooth for fmv and the game sound is fine. Though it's difficult to change resolution with out graphical problems so I play it on low res but all other settings are maxed out.
Also played c&c generals c&c 3 and tiberium sun all run fine and I recently bought starfleet command 3 and St elite force of gog and then run amazing.
@darksoul77
Ah you're playing through Origin. I've been trying to run mine from the CD-ROM, maybe that's why. I might have to just buy it again on Origin.
