Here's a blast from the past. Who remembers Kao the Kangaroo? This obscure platforming mascot debuted back in the early 00s, winning a cult following thanks to its simple but charming adventures. Tate Multimedia, developer and publisher of the previous entries, has announced the return of the boxing glove-clad marsupial, and you can catch a glimpse in the above trailer.
Simply named Kao the Kangaroo, this is a brand new game in the series for the modern day, and it looks to be another colourful, light-hearted action platformer. You'll be running about in natural environments, collecting coins, and beating up baddies. It's taking a suitably cartoonish aesthetic, and looks to be a fun time from what little is shown.
The game is hopping onto PlayStation 5 and PS4 this summer. Are you excited to see Kao come back? Don't stop the beat in the comments section below.

Does it have a platinum?
Well, when you've just lost Spyro and Crash, you have to scrap the barrel to get something in the 3D platform genre...
Not that the game looks bad by the way, it seems inoffensively fun!
Looks absolutely brilliant. Wishlisted!
OOOOOH....!!! πππ
KAO is BAAACK !!!
And he looks more handsome with new looking. πππ
Better get a physical release
Nitro Rad is gonna love this.
This actually looks really solid.
@MyThoughts31
The game will get physical release when you see the last minute from the trailer.
Never played (or even heard of) the original but I love these colourful platformers from the past.
It does make me wonder though how something as obscure as this gets made but weβre still waiting for a new Spyro game. I donβt suppose it matters now MS own the rights though π
Platformers are like a rare currency these days. This looks fun, just hope my potato laptop can run it
I really liked Kao 2 on PSP back in the day.
@LuisCruz13 My thoughts exactly lol
That looks good so far. I'm very fond of 3D action adventure games, so hopefully this one will turn out great.
Nice. I wonder if ill ever see Whiplash remastered?
Probably not lol
@Olmaz
Are we sure that Crash and Spyro are once again lost forever?
@RareFan Well, Activision owns the IPs, therefore from 2023 on, Microsoft will and this is the kind of IPs where there is no doubt they will become exclusive.
I sure Ratchet and Clank plus Jak and Daxter could fill the void of no Crash and Spyro. Now KAO is coming back add another platformer.
Glad to see these older mascot 3D platformers making a return. Wish Square would remake Gex, but that will never happen
Looks strikingly like Crash 4.
Looks cool and I'm happy to see a native PS5 release.
First time hearing about Kao, but it looks a lot like Crash and hopefully plays like it as well.
I like the look of this. I got the play for spyro a few weeks back and it made me realise how much fun these games can be. Iβd definitely pick this up and it could of course fill the hole where crash and spyro are about to fall down
This actually looks surprisingly good. I do love a good 3D platformer so hopefully this will turn out well.
For anyone who has played the original, is it any good?
Looks pretty fun. Never heard of him though, maybe he was not in the US.
Announced on Australia Day
I'll wait for reviews and possibly a sale but looks cool, very Spyro-like. I'm interested.
Haha I bought the sequel for GameCube but never got round to playing it. I don't think the og came out for a console I owned, though.
@LuisCruz13 He was the one that convinced me to get Snake Pass for Switch. Not a bad game, but a little short.
@__jamiie Doubt many here have, it was Dreamcast and Windows only. There was a GBA version... But well they are always completely different. There was a sequel but I never got round to playing it. I hear the sequel was a way better game, though.
@Ken_Kaniff Croc fiiiiiirst.
Looks great I remember playing kao on pc when I was a kid so I'll definitely be getting this
How about bringing Sly Cooper back instead?
Never played the original game, but I like platformers, so I'd definitely buy this.
@Kaizen753 Hell yeah. I second that!
@BritneyfR_ee its probably because the developers were easily able to reaquire the rights after ataris last bankruptcy(case and point the only reason we got a new bubsy game was because a chinese company bought the rights after that atari fire sale) or the deal they made with atari only covered publishing and they didn't outright own the ip(which is why kao 3 was only released in Australia, russia and poland initially as they couldn't find a us/eu publisher until they did it themselves in 2021)
Game looks like fun, am always up for another 3D platformer.
