Over the weekend, PlatinumGames held a livestream all about Sol Cresta, its vertical shoot-'em-up that started life as an April Fools joke. We've known about the project since 2020, and it looks like the time has finally come to release this curious retro project. During the livestream — embedded above — Platinum revealed the release date for the game, and it's out pretty dang soon.
In fact, it's now part of the February scrum. Yes, Sol Cresta is scheduled for release on 22nd February 2022, coming to PlayStation 4. It'll retail for $39.99.
All that's really known about the game is that it's a pseudo-sequel to Terra Cresta, with similar gameplay involving multiple ships that can dock together to become more powerful or use different abilities. You'll be switching the docking order around in order to get the most out of the ships as you eliminate the hundreds of enemies firing deadly bullets your way.
Are you looking forward to Sol Cresta? Blast into the comments section below.

How much?
I was interested but not at that price.
I hope Jamie reviews it here.
Love me some Terra Cresta. One of my favorite shooters as a kid and the power up system is still unique. Will be checking this out!
Even though I can still remember loading up Moon Cresta on cassette for my ZX Spectrum and loving it, this is apparently £40.
So, no.
I loved the Terra Cresta version by Ocean/Imagine on the C64 in the 80's, so I'll keep my eye on this. Now, hopefully the Bit Map Brothers will release Xenon Megablast for the PS5 and my life will be nearly complete
@Dan_ozzzy189 Same here! I really wasn’t expecting it to be quite so pricey. Maybe on a future sale then.
@gamer_since_83 that was a great version, only spoiled by the music pretty much losing everything but the backing rhythm when you held down fire.
IE : MOST OF THE TIME!
@The_Pixel_King yeah, shame. Is deathsmiles out yet?
@redcorpuscle it is expensive, but hopefully there will be lots to unlock…otherwise it’s a no from me too.
For that price it better has a lot more substance than your average bullet hell...
@Dan_ozzzy189 Ha, yes! I recall, that bit was really iffy.
