PlayStation has published a list over on its official site, which highlights 22 games set to release in 2022. As you'd expect, it covers a lot of this year's big hitters, including Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Gran Turismo 7, and more. All of these titles have set release dates — but what about the currently undated God of War Ragnarok? Well, based on this list, it looks like Sony is doubling down on Kratos returning later this year, as it features quite heavily.
Now, obviously, things can change between now and...whenever Ragnarok is supposed to come out. There's still plenty of time for the PS5 and PS4 sequel to get slapped with a delay — but this at least shows that Ragnarok is still expected in 2022.
So when will the next God of War actually get a release date? Well, Sony will naturally want to get February's Horizon Forbidden West out of the door first — followed by Gran Turismo 7 in March — but after that? It really depends on the time of year that Ragnarok is aiming for. If it's set for summer, then we could get a date in the next few months. Beyond that — the autumn or even the holidays — we'd probably expect a date drop at some point in the summer.
When do you think God of War Ragnarok will launch? Will it definitely make 2022 to begin with? Sharpen your axes in the comments section below.

I reckon it’ll be the big Winter game. It’s snowy after all.
@nessisonett I was thinking this...be a bit weird for it to hit in the summer. Boiling outside as Kratos trudges through waist-deep snow.
I'm sure they will release more info come March (after horizon and gran turismo). Sony's marketing has been laser focused on 1 game at a time during the ps5 generation.
If Ragnarok indeed does come out late 2022 as people predict it really shows what a flat out lie Sony told with their initial 2021 release window to hype up ps5 sales.
October/November 2022
@Jayslow was Ragnarok ever announced as an „release window“ title?
Can’t remember this. R&C Rift Apart was said to be an release window title.
Could be late 2022 but yeah, I think it's 2022
I'm betting it'll be released in 2021. Because that's what Sony said.
If that's wrong though, holiday 2022.
@Reeneman No, but there was a short teaser just saying "2021" just before they launched pre-orders for the console.
But anyway, games have been delayed by this much before (Halo infinite was delayed by a full year and I'm pretty sure they actually believed it would be a launch game originally).
Santa Monica apparently had good reasons to delay (Chris Judge's health problems among others) so I wouldn't be so sure about them intentionally lying.
If both god of war Ragnarok and horizon forbidden west release this year and neither win game of year Twitter gonna be fun 😂.
@4kgk2 We all know Elden Ring will sneak in and steal it from under both of them
@JB-Whiting if Elden Ring beat god of war Ragnarok for game of year that would be gaming media biased at it’s finest and I’m hype for Elden Ring I have it preordered.
I'd say Summer. Sony usually doesn't bother with major Winter releases since that time period is usually flooded with AAA 3rd party games.
Yeah, I’d also say Oct/Nov.
Considering how much of a visual stunner the first game was, I can’t wait to see Ragnarok!
@Reeneman during the initial ps5 conference showcasing games they ended with a Ragnarok teaser with a 2021 date
It’ll drop in the winter time; I can feel it in my scrote.
I prefer it ASAP but expect it sometime between Sept-Nov.
I feel like it has to be Feb/Mar 2023 b/c that's when big Sony games drop but if it is going to be 2022 then September. They won't want to release during the busy holiday season but they'll also want time to hawk 5 different collectors editions ranging in price from $99-$499.
If the first-time they give a date is accurate, whenever that date us, it's a win, I'll give them that.
Before June.
I just don't think they can afford going against the anual games of second half, warner bros DC games and harry potter game... And the rest of big games coming out in 2022. Releasing it sooner is better.
@Jayslow Exactly, usually a delay is months, they would have said late 2022 otherwise.
If by the next big state of play doesn't show the release date, gow 2021 was bait.
@4kgk2 Tough. Zelda and Elden Ring.
@ShogunRok
I live in Florida and it's boiling outside no matter what time of the year so wouldn't feel weird to me in the slightest.
2022 would be the 2017 PlayStation almost had with such a roster. 2017 was a great year for the PS4 that nonetheless felt could have been even better.
Setting up for a God of War/ Starfield Winter bash?
November. Sony doesn't do Christmas releases. And the holidays are in summer. So definetly November.
Plus 1 for Sony holding this to counter Starfield. PS was looking to buy exclusively for Starfield so I'm guessing they will have something in the works to limit its FOMO
11.11.2022, same day as Starfield you know for a laugh
@nessisonett @ShogunRok if it's summer somewhere, surely it means it's winter somewhere else.
@MatthewJP and if you live on the Equator, what then? 😊
September at the latest, Sony doesn't release games in October - December unless its tied to new hardware and I don't think it'll have a VR mode.
As for the whole Starfield situation, I think Starfield will be delayed to 2023 meanwhile the big holiday 2022 Xbox Game Studios releases end up being Forza Motorsport and the first DLC expansion for Halo Infinite.
If I were Sony, I wouldn't announce the date until after the release of Gran Turismo in March. Get gamers to buy the two big releases before hyping them to put money down for the next God of War.
Some great titles pegged for this year. What a time to be a gamer.
I'm still unsure it hits 2022 but if it does then definitely in the autumn, we had a pretty lame end to the year (2021) with Xbox gaining momentum going into Xmas so I don't expect PlayStation to make the same mistake, especially with Starfield expected to hit at the end of the year.
@Reeneman It kinda was, or very very close to it all things considered. Since a lot of people still can't get them, maybe all games so far should be considered as being 'launch window' titles 😛
I'm hopeful it will be out this year, Sep/Oct release would be perfect.
GotY talk when were barely into 2022 is a tad boring, it's what is your personal GotY that truly matters.
@MatthewJP Trueee, but 90% of the world's population lives above the equator, so when it's winter in the north, it's winter for most people.
Another masterpiece coming.yeah it loiks like it definitely coming this year.another game of the year nominee.word up son
@onemike951 comment of the day
As I previously said, it will receive at least 2 dud release dates for this year, and it will be delayed at least twice, with a final release set for Spring 2023.
Even if they used assets from the first GOW, even if Sony said it will launch in 2021 and it didn't, it's still way too soon.
Given the :
I just don't see it happening this year.
There are other points to make here that reinforce this launch date, but those above are the most important.
Easy. 16 August 2022
When will it be released on PC?
🤔
6 months after it's PS release? 12 months? Place your bets!
I'm going to laugh when this, BotW2, and Starfield all get delayed into next year.
Maybe that'd give Horizon Forbidden West a chance during awards season, though.
it'll probably come out in september/october so itll have plenty of time to get all the nominations it will deserve
@DrJames oh god of war will def beat starfield. Fallout 4 has so many bugs it ain't funny.
@meltendo why is gt7 and horizon the only things that would affect sales? I really don't get this. Tlou2 and Ghost were back to back and it was perfect because there was nothing to compete except themselves.
Summer 2022 at the earliest, September 2022 at the latest.
I will be shocked if it launches anytime in Oct-Dec.
@RevGaming thats your opinion. Just like my opinion believes that starfield is such a larger ambitious game then god of war but has a actual set release date. They couldnt be anymore different of a game style and stating gow will beat it, is rubbish.
I dont know why everyone pretends it’s news every time GOW get some hint about releasing this year. It was supposed to release last year and got pushed back with full explanation / apologies from Santa Monica for being loud.
Edit
Oh I wasn’t aware it was a sort of bet speculation contest. So I say June then because why not
Whew look at that 3 of those heavy hitters within a month. Think I’ll put horizon on the back burner, kick that can down the road I’ll deal with it after. Might play that thing into spring, who knows. Aloy has great strength; resistance to corrosion should be fine
@Col_McCafferty I always got mad and now I think i have bigger things to worry about. I dont want to sit behind a gaming PC and a gaming laptop is to expensive so im happy with my console.
@Gh05tm4ch1n3 Yeah it's a prediction. A good one tho looking at what they both released last gen.
They can be compare on how many things did they do right and wrong.
Yeah, f76 was ambitous too.
@Flaming_Kaiser Same here, love left4dead2, but I don't play it enough because it's on my laptop. It feels so inconvenient playing it with a controller. It's even worse on tv. Hate setting up the controls for each game and sometimes not understanding why something is not working. It took me 2 hours to figure out how to play dead space 3 with my buddy. I'm getting an xbox over a pc 100%.
I'd bet on 11th of November 2022.
Actually, any Friday of November 2022 is the best release date for this major game.
And Microsoft is releasing Starfield on 11 Nov 2022.
But no conflict with playstation users.
In fact fresh GoW release will smooth this a bit.
When it's ready.
@4kgk2 Elden Ring appears to be too soul-like to garner as big a following as GoW but yeah with media anything is possible
