Sony is slowly rolling out functionality it had previously promised, allowing you to access the videos and screenshots you capture on the PlayStation 5 using the Create button in the PS App on your smartphone. Enter your Media Gallery on your console and you may be prompted to enable Auto-Upload, depending on where you live.
Anecdotally we’ve read reports of this in the United States and Germany, but are yet to obtain access ourselves in the UK. The functionality soft-launched in Japan and Canada last year, so Sony’s been testing it for a while. Once setup, all your screenshots and videos of up to three minutes will be uploaded and accessible within the PS App for up to 14 days.
That means that you’ll no longer need to upload them to Twitter or other social networks in order to download them to your phone, which is a positive improvement. Have you got access to the feature yet? Are you happy with the functionality? Share your greatest gaming moments on Instagram in the comments section below.

I hope it lets me see my trophy screenshots when looking at the trophy list in the app. Come on, Sony, you need to do something to be better than third party trophy trackers.
Probably not since the images expire after 14 days. Boo.
Just in time for Horizon. They knew what they were doing with that timing lmao
Looks like Sony rolled back. I guess it might arrive in a official form this week still.
Feature that should have been there long time ago. Same for ALLM, VRR, SSD expansion (this took 1 year) and some other quality of life improvements that are taking.
I love Playstation but sometimes they are so annoying
@ED_209 with VRR hopefully
Screenshots were always available via the PS app. You just had to send them as a message to someone.
Not a feature that’s being added to PS4 I’m guessing? That’s a shame.
Awesome. I still hope Sony integrate PiP with video games and streaming services like YT and such.
@riceNpea Exactly why this functionality taking so long to implement has been annoying - the ability was there, but only if you bothered someone on your friends list. I don't really use social media, but the xbox has been good for sending the odd thing to mates who are interested (for example flying over, and then kamikaze-ing, their house in Flight Sim)
@JAMes-BroWWWn it’s there for the tips tips to get achievements.
Why is a general YouTube PiP support needed? When I play a good game indoor need to watch YouTube content during the same time.
@Majk_SVK these features are more complex to implement than you might imagine. It would have been nice to have them from the start, but evidently they weren't ready, so the options are:
1) They could have released the features in whatever state they were in. This would certainly have been buggy and frustrating, meaning that while they could tick the boxes for the features, the user experience would be far worse.
2) They could have held back the console until the features were ready. Some of those features aren't ready yet, so it still wouldn't be out. This would not just be frustrating for gamers, but financially ruinous for Sony.
Descoping features that are not going to be ready for your intended release is an important tool in the project management toolbox. I got one am glad to have had my PS5 for the past ~14 months and have got a lot of joy from it even without these features. The same could not be said if it were constantly crashing because of poorly implemented functionality.
I think it's important to note a difference between "I wish this was reality" and "this not being reality is the result of bad decisions or business practices". The two are compatible, but in cases like this, inaccurate to conflate.
Maybe we should have a little patience and be glad they did the best with the hand they were dealt, rather than jumping straight to outrage.
This is cool. I setup a fake psn account, to which I sent my screenshots to, then download them onto my phone. Hopefully PS4 gets this too, but I wouldn't hold my breath
@JAMes-BroWWWn If you send someone a message with the YouTube web address you can use the link to pin videos to the side of the screen.
@theheadofabroom I agree with you on certain points in your reply. True - it is better to rather postpone the release of something, if it means better user-experience.
On the other side, my question is: Why not to release such a feature in a good state without bigger issues sooner? Especially if competition has done it properly and much sooner...
@Bentleyma I know that trick. Thanks though. But I still would want one not pinned next to it but rather a small window over on the screen at the corner.
@Reeneman Because I simply want that. Certain games are perfect for it. Mostly games like Dead Cells and such where I just go thru runs but also wanna watch some YT or something on Netflix while I get me some runs.
@Majk_SVK Because it's hard, and they prioritised other aspects of the experience which have already been delivered. The competition have different resources and priorities, which is a healthy state of affairs.
@theheadofabroom agreed 💯 percent! Sony is an extremely competent company who knows how to create a system that's full of brilliant games and awesome features. I've had my PS5 for 6 months now, it's the BEST console I've ever owned and it's slowly but steadily introducing brilliant quality of life updates and features! Instead of people jumping straight to outrage for missing features, be patient with Sony as they're obviously listening to fans feedback. Can't wait to see what comes next ✌️
Yesterday I took a screenshot on my PS5, and a notification popped up on my phone from the PS app. I looked at it and saw it was a message about automatically sending screenshots to my devices, but I accidentally tapped on something that made it go away. I can’t seem to get it back and there are no settings on the phone app or on my PS5 to set it up. Nothing I’ve been able to find anyway. I’m so bummed! 😹
@theheadofabroom as a Software Engineer, my thoughts exactly.
@ecin My perspective also.
I think one of the most overlooked aspects is that all of this stuff has to happen while rendering a game at up to 120fps, which means having extremely tight restrictions on what system resources you can siphon away from gameplay without users complaining. That probably means changing existing APIs to add hooks for the functionality, while not changing either the behaviour or the performance of stuff third parties were already relying on. It's a headache I'm glad I don't have to deal with, before you even consider the QA requirements.
How is this just coming now? Xbox has been able to do that for ages which is weird as photo mode doesn't seem to be as big a thing on there as it does on Playstation.
Yet we're still waiting on PS5 folders and themes being added...maybe Summer 2022 if we're lucky?
