Assassin's Creed Valhalla is totally free to play on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 right now, until the 28th February. If you decide to download the game and give it a try, then you'll be able to carry over your progress to the full thing, should you buy it.
On that note, it's worth mentioning that Valhalla is currently 60 per cent off through the PlayStation Store — so this is clearly all part of Ubisoft's plan to expand the title's reach before Dawn of Ragnarok drops. That's Valhalla's new expansion, by the way, which releases on the 10th March.
Still, publisher plots aside, we'd recommend giving Valhalla a go if you're a fan of open world games, although the timing isn't great, is it? This free trial is going live just a week after the launch of Horizon Forbidden West, and a little game called Elden Ring is out on Friday. It's nice to have options, we suppose!

Really cool but probably the worst possible time they could have done this. Horizon Forbidden West and Pokémon Legends just came out within the past few weeks and people are jumping back into CybePunk since it’s finally “complete” now. And with GRID Legends and obviously, Elden Ring out this Friday… this is probably the worst weekend they could have picked lol.
Eh, I don’t know why I care so much. I’ll be on vacation at the mountains this weekend lol.
Don’t care. Playing Elden Ring
Ha! Good luck finishing it in a weekend!
Cyberpunk ps5, horizon, and elden ring all release within 10 days of each other. Let's time our release of the most bloaty of all bloaty open world rpgs in the same window!
But honestly nbd. These free weekends happen as frequently as ubisoft sales at this point.
Enjoy people..brilliant game but you wont even scratch the surface in a weekend..
@DeathByLasagna yea what a terrible time to do it.
Dont have to buy and play each game the moment it comes out you know...
Ubisoft is used only for me now. Of course, I have about eight Assassin’s Creed games to play first.
Worst possible weekend when there are so many new games to play.
@Northern_munkey @Bentleyma I think they purposely do this to lure people into buying the games after they can't complete them in 1 weekend.
Its a great advertisement for the game though..i tried riders republic and i had a good laugh on that..reminded me of an old ps1 game called espn extreme games or something like that..was epilepsy inducing but we played that for months..
@Jtheripper but you do..its the "keeping up with the jones's" syndrome..
I'm really interested in this but the timing couldn't be worse.
Look at all the negative comments. This is why the gaming community is so toxic. It's FREE for four days and you're all still moaning. You complain about the high cost of games but you still complain when they are available for FREE.
