Sony has pushed a Horizon Forbidden West patch, which prepares the Guerrilla Games opus for launch. Weighing in at around 500MB on the PlayStation 5 and PS4, update 1.40 includes a number of key improvements to overall performance and stability. The full patch notes, as scraped from Sony’s servers by PlayStation Game Size, are as follows:
- Various performance improvements
- Fixes for certain rare or conditional crashes / progression blockers
- Fixed a few instances where the Game Progression page in the Notebook would not update correctly
- Addressed several cosmetic issues
As part of our Horizon Forbidden West PS5 review process, the Dutch developer released a patch which seriously reduced pop-in and various other bugs, so do make sure you set aside the time to update your game before playing this weekend. Mine came through the post just now. Problem is I'm working for another 8 hours 😢
Just got mine aswell😯😏
Received dispatch confirmation earlier (for delivery tomorrow). I’m so excited I could just spit 😄
My copy just turned up! 🙌
The only problem right now is there's NO HFW THEME
Been looking out my window waiting for the delivery driver! Can’t wait!
I hate these day-one patches. Why can‘t they just wait with shipping until the game is really fixed and in a great shape? Metroid Dread as an example also received later patches, but the retail version 1.00 is already great, and when you start it in 20 years, it will give you the full experience.
Ya know...
"Addressed several cosmetic issues"
and
"Various performance improvements"
and also
"Fixes for certain rare or conditional crashes / progression blockers"
... Could've easily covered half of the patch notes that CDPR issued.
Sometimes, less is more 🙄

Too bad the weather has put a huge dampner on my excitement. First of all we were hit by a windstorm here in Ireland yesterday now there's ANOTHER windstorm hitting us tonight going into tomorrow. I was already hit by a rather lengthy power outage so yay I probably have another one to look forward to.
This is the Winter's way of saying I'm nearly over but I'm not over yet. It's been relatively uneventful here in Ireland this Winter which is unusual apart from the wind and rain but nothing that bad. Hopefully things won't be as bad as yesterday.
Mine came this morning. It's the Regalla edition though so I can't play until tomorrow.
Unboxing it during the morning meeting in work this morning was fun though.
I'll be getting my copy tomorrow but I unfortunately won't have time to extensively play it until Tuesday.
Mine will be here tomorrow. (Special edition)
Got to be at work.
And I’ve just had three days off, too.
Nah, I have waited this long. I can wait a little longer.
After all, this is why I have a new console.
@Max_the_German they probably tested the game more and found issues? I had crashing issues with Dread as well, that was patched too.
So excited to pick this up after work in the morning tomorrow.
@Corc11 who did you order with?
Mine is already preloaded... At what time GMT it gets playable??
@lolwhatno 🤦🤦🤦
Not on here as well?
😉
@MattSilverado digital versions will be playable at midnight your local time. Physical - whenever you get the disc
@Max_the_German Metroid Dread had a patch that removed a bug where Samus can be made invincible. Whenever they release the game, the time between the game being considered finished and it actually be available for sale is long enough that more bugs will be found by launch day. Especially with a game like HFW which is way larger and more complex than Dread which is effectively a SNES game with 3D models.
BotW is a more comparable game and that game is very glitchy even after years of patching. You can fly in BotW even as of the latest patch.
@lolwhatno Not sure really, it's not a difficult choice for me but appreciate that this isn't the case for many other gamers.
How do you guys get it 1 day earlier?!? I'm sooo jealous! I ordered the collectors from Game and the Special ed. from Amazon but they're both shipping tomorrow.
@Shepherd_Tallon yours from Game right? I don't get it. Mine is coming tomorrow...(
@Tatarimokke Amazon Australia? They really been bungling game shipments by blaming it on covid when actually it's them not sending out games until release day.
@Tatarimokke Mine came from Gamestop. They always come a day early for some reason.
I bought the PS4 version to save $10 on the PS5 upgrade, but Sony is making it very difficult. There is currently not an option to claim the upgrade. Apparently you can't do it before launch. I was hoping to playing at midnight, but I guess I have to hope I can find the upgrade and wait for it to download.
@cherryghost41 I'm in the same predicament. Was concerned that I'd made a mistake with my purchase, but can clearly see in the storefront page that PS5 version was included. Just couldn't see how to claim it. It's a pain, but I can at least set it download at midnight and have it ready to play for when I wake up in the morning.
@Max_the_German Well welcome to modern gaming where they are way more complex to make, also why delay the game a month when you can issue a small update on release? Finally Dread 1.0 has a gamebraking bug what needed a patch.
@Shepherd_Tallon Oh I see. I'm in the UK there's no Gamestop here..
@TechaNinja no it's Amazon UK but it seems they're doing the same
At least it's only 500 mb. I was afraid the Day 1 patch was going to be a few gigs.
Ah, remember those halcyon days when they used to prepare a game for launch before they actually printed the discs?
Gripes about modern gaming aside, can't wait to play this.
That’s a really small day one patch by today’s standards.
Mine has shipped but should be here tomorrow
@Matroska For me it‘s not about having a completely bug-free product, this is practically impossible for such complex software products. It seems to me that back than in offline-only console times like with PS2, the developer had to deliver a fine product, and a GTA San Andreas was in a much better shape than it is today with its „Definitive Edition“ (even after several patches). Today, developers (and maybe even more publishers) seem to have totally lost their shame, day-one patches are normal business, almost everbody already assumes them, they are included into the time schedules for development and release. Metroid Dread is just an example that the old-school QA WITHOUT a planned day-one patch is still possible and almost feels fresh today.
Just downloaded the patch. Thanks for the heads up. Ready for midnight to get here
Got my "Your item has shipped!" notice this morning. So close to finishing Zero Dawn. Incentive is at an all-time high. Thankfully I have a 4-day weekend ahead of me!
Praying the storm doesnt cause issues with the post tomorrow!
Glad to hear this sorts some of the technical issues referred to by reviews. I'm guessing the cosmetic patch addresses instances of Aloy's eyes rolling to the back of her head now and again 😅
@Voltan great!! Thanks for the info! Time slot allocated then 🤣
@Uncharted273 local game shop a few doors down. Posts it through my letterbox for me if I pay upfront a few days before
My PS5 copy won't be shipping out until tomorrow sadly, so probably won't arrive until Monday or Tuesday if they're using USPS.
Which is fine, I still plan to do a complete fresh playthrough of the first game anyways to refresh my memory.
@TheArt yeah I really wanted a dynamic theme as a pre order bonus I guess because PS5 doesn't have themes they're not going to bother with them anymore
@Max_the_German atleast the games on the disk looks at halo infinite
3 hours, 12 minutes and 52 seconds...
Just in time finished NG+ and Frozen Wilds for the first time. Really enjoyed that.
Hoping the “several cosmetic issues” sorts some of the worst pop-in. It’s the only thing I saw in all the reviews that I’d find really annoying.
Its 2.180gb not 500mb for me
Really hope they will fix the antialising and "film grain" fix in the performance mode. It's like a shimmering filter.
