Not bad for a spin-off, eh? Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is now Sony’s third best-selling game in the United States since records began all the way back in 1995. To make clear, this is ranked strictly on dollar sales, not units, making this feat even more impressive, seeing as the standard version of the game costs $49.99. There is a $69.99 bundle also available, which chucks in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered as well, but we have to imagine the majority of the sales are coming from the cheaper option.
Only Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War have made more money in the US than Miles Morales, and seeing as the spin-off was the sixth best-selling game in the January 2022 NPD report, we’re going to go out on a limb and suggest it’s not done yet. What a huge success this series has turned out to be for Sony and Insomniac Games!

Even though the game wasn’t for me I’m glad to see the series flourish, they’re quality games and deserve to sell this well nice job Sony
Funnily enough, I remember reading on this website how it was selling poorly after release
I guess news of it's demise have been greatly exaggerated.
P.S.
Love the game and the series. Hopefully we get more soonish.
@Cikajovazmaj I don't remember anything like that, it's always been doing pretty well since launch as far as I recall?
(Its staying power has proved impressive, though!)
I’m glad Sony able to sell its games unlike Xbox
Apparently the Spider-Man license prints money these days.
@Ralizah it really does though, because everybody knows him. You could ask a person off of any street in the world: “Name a superhero.” I would bet money more that 50% would say Spider-Man.
@Ralizah as good as a license is, it needs a solid game behind it to sell like this. Square Enix might have some lessons learned to share about this topic
I liked the first Spider-Man game but this was Miles better.
I bet Disney And Marvel Are Pleased That's Probably Why Insomniac Got Wolverine As Well.
It was ok. I'm really waiting for Spider man 2
Both Spider-man games have been selling great pretty since they launched. I guess you could say they have a lot of legs.
Thank you good night.
@Casco Sony's strong advertising campaigns also factor in heavily, I imagine.
It'll be interesting to see how Insomniac's Wolverine game sells in comparison.
Its a great game and it shows people love Miles. Spider-Man 2 will be massive considering its both Peter and Miles and maybe hopefully Venom as well as a playable character.
This is great news. I just hope that success of these game dont have a negative effect on the studio, and Insomniac gets suck pumping out Marvel games.
Spider-man 2 is going to be an absolute monster, especially with Venom in it.
Can’t even imagine how good the next spider man installment is going to be. Congrats to Insomniac and Sony!
Not surprised and glad to hear it. It's one of my personal favorites of all time. I don't know, from the reveal trailer with the perfect music all the way to the full game, everything about it just hit perfect. Bring on that PS5 Spidey 2!
Fantastic game. Even though I've been through it twice and gotten the Plat, I wouldn't mind another run. I'll pick up a digital copy once it drops to $20. Can't wait for 2.
Great game, glad it did so well. A must play in my book.
@4kgk2 why does it always have to be xbox? Why couldn't you say unlike bf2042 instead?
Or maybe compare sony with sony.
@Just2Milky 25 percent would say Homelander.
@Floki Watch Insomniac drop Resistance before Wolverine like the goats they are
@RevGaming because Xbox is Sony main competitor so it make sense to compare the two. anyway PlayStation is crushing Xbox badly right now hopefully Xbox can get it together soon.
Spiderman games way better than the movies easy
@BritneyfR_ee comment of the night by far! Cheers!
@uptownsoul But that game was in development for a while. Probably even before Sony purchased the studio, or before the Insomniac marvel games blow up.
It was my first PS5 game.
And it’s a great one too. I never played the original so I bought the special edition to get both games. I ran through Miles first and then played Spiderman Remastered.
Of the two, I actually prefer Miles.
In Marvels Spiderman 2 I expect Miles involvement to be limited like his own special missions and leaving the rest for his standalone sequel
Both villains were extremely weak in miles morales imo.
It kinda soured the experience for me.
didnt think much of miles morales the villains were all B tier hadnt heard of any of them. icons all over the map to make the game artificially longer the main story took 4 hours.
It was DLC they sold as a full price game
@get2sammyb I, too, remember it. Its initial sales weren't massive, so one of your writers argued that it wasn't performing well.
Game was stunning visually, good story and voices, but way too short. I played both of spider man games this year and Morales was 20 hours shorter. It’s strange, cause they used the same city, they should have add more collectibles at least.
Not releated but wanted to say Peacemaker is better than anything Marvel has done except Loki which its on a par with.
Finished this last night. I found it a technically impressive game with a very average story. Way too much exposition via dialogue and reliance on characters making bad decisions to push the story forward.
So Miles has probably made more money than Spider-Man and GoW in the long run as the production costs would of been way lower
@riceNpea I've heard great things about Peacemaker, but Loki was simply not fun for me. One of the worst Marvel shows I've watched.
Yes Miles Morales had Launch sales of 600k which was way below big first party standards. Spider-man was 3.3M, Tlou2 4M etc.
However, people assuming that meant it failed to do well were not accounting for it being on a new platform most people were prepared to wait, and also Spiderman is more mainstream and tends to have longer legs anyway.
It's a fun game, certainly not better than Spider-Man though, Miles is a good lad and I'm looking forward to Spider-Man 2.
Not sure why though, but this news saddens me a little. Of all the great games they've made and it's MM that is up there with God of War and Spider-Man?
Hopefully Forbidden West will be a huge seller in the US and beat Miles, a new IP with a female lead that takes place in post-Apocalyptic America.
Be interested in seeing the best sellers in Europe. Probably not that different but hopefully different enough. I like to think we have more refined taste than our American friends.
😉
@Col_McCafferty Its probably COD Aor FIFA as a European i can tell you im dissapointed in their terrible taste
@naruball I like Loki as a character. He's not black and white like so many of them, and the show was more interesting than most because of the introduction of The Watcher.
Peacemaker is James Gunn at his best. Humourous and entertaining, it's so much better than anything Disney has done with Marvel's TV shows.
@Flaming_Kaiser we're talking about Sony games not games full stop. If we were I'd expect GTA V to top the charts in both North America and Europe.
Also, all this talk about superhero shows and it's pretty obvious which is the best one and it's neither DC or Marvel.
The Boys, this sits atop the pile and nothing else comes close.
😝
@uptownsoul Insomniac Games had received PlayStation 5 development kits early on in the console's development cycle. There was even rumors going there was a Ratchet and Clank in development as a PS5 launch title before the game had been officially announced.
With the features and performance that Miles Morales launched with. That definitely shows a team who had real early access to dev kits, and was able to build the engine along side the console. And didn't just receive a dev kit only a couple month before launch.
I also said Marvel games, not specifically Spider-Man. But considering development cycle and that they have multiple team. One team is actually less than 20 minute from where I live. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a full PS5 in development once Spider-Man was close to release..
@clianvXAi That cause Miles Morales wasn't a full game. It was basically DLC sold as a game aka Standalone DLC. Something Sony like to do a lot... Like Lost Legacy, Left Behind, First Light...
Ironic how so many people gave Miles Morales so much crap for being 'Over-glorified DLC' yet I hear next to no criticism being given toward Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare, some even claim it's the 'Greatest DLC Ever Made' yet it can be finished in just 2 hours, 4 - 5 hours if you're going for 100% completion. Normally how long it takes to beat a game doesn't matter to me in the slightest, but the time it takes to complete it seems to be the main reason for comparing it as DLC, which makes no sense because Miles Morale is a far lengthier experience than Undead Nightmare, providing upwards of 20 hours of content, compared to Undead Nightmare's measly 4 - 5 hours (Play Undead Nightmare for an hour and you've pretty much experienced all the game has to offer).
Hell Uncharted Lost Legacy was about 10 hours & Infamous First Light is anywhere from 10 - 15 hours long, yet everyone accepts those as Standalone Games, so why does Miles Morales get singled out as the 'Over-glorified DLC'?
Just seems like people simply trying (and failing) to downplay Miles Morales with no real reason for doing so.
@Col_McCafferty better than daredevil? Bold choice cotton
.
I wish we could get figures we could compare to one another. 20 million for Horizon Forbidden Dawn. 3rd place in US for dollar sales. Most purchased game by people called Dave. Where does the incomparable data end?
@Ralizah plus the movie tie-in. Say what you will for Holland (Tom, not the country), but he got people back in the cinema and has made Sony/Marvel a whole lot of $€£...
Can't help but think the games piggyback off the films and vice versa!
Not surprised as there is not much else to buy with the ps5 to show what it can do from Sony, with so little choice it's almost a guaranteed purchase with evey ps5 purchase as the sales chart shows. If time ps5 stock drops the game comes back into top 10.
Like the 1st game found I only play it now and again as it's one of those games you play for an hour or 2 before the fun of swinging wears off and the games starts to become a bit tedious from doing the same thing over and over.
@JustPlainLoco that's called quality over quantity and was Rockstar in their prime.
@Col_McCafferty I did like Daredevil on Netflix a lot though. 😉
It will be good in 2023 with Spider-Man 2 and whatever Sony have to see their studios just developing games for PS5 only.
I think 2022 is the last year of cross generation.
It’s not a complaint just look at HFW and GOW2
and imagine games ground up for PS5.
I know we had Returnal and R&C both amazing but early days games for PS5.
Can we see a list w/ some numbers? I bought Miles Morales for $30 over Christmas b/c I had $75 credit, still haven't played it yet, but it's shocking to me it would be 3rd. I kind of want to see the list to see how limited it is by Sony "PUBLISHED" games. 🤷
Even though I have a PS5 and I really liked Spider-man I still haven't played MM and don't really feel like it. Still seems too expensive for what it is. As much as I liked Spider-man, I wish we got a new Batman game from Rocksteady, instead of what they're actually working on.
@riceNpea Yeah I agree 100% on both counts. Peacemaker’s been vintage Gunn and Loki was way better than it had any right to be, much better than the other Marvel show imo.
Nice! I just bought it last week and looking forward to it!
Into to the Spiderverse also helped with this.
Great movie boasting the sales of a Good game.
Miles needs to star in his own game series. I really enjoyed his game a lot more than I did Spider Man.
There are far more deserving games that should be higher up than this.
@get2sammyb apologies, I was referring to a discussion in comments section, which is not (and should not be) heavily controlled by Push Square. Site staff and articles were always spot on regarding MM game!
@uptownsoul Of course what i said is not based on any factural info. It some thing i hope that doesnt happen. But thing can quickly changed. We don't know what may happen 2-3 years now when both Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 release, and 5 of Playstation best selling are all Marvel games.
Hell, 2 years ago now of us was expecting to see a Sony studio developing for Switch, or Sony buying a studio to have them still just release multiplatform games, or Sony trying to release 10 live service games. These events can show how things can quickly change for company.
Every time I see a great team working on a licensed IP, it makes me sad. maybe if it were an IP I cared about like LotR I'd change my tune...
@uptownsoul That not even a good comparison when Microsoft just bought like 3-4 studios that already just cranks out Call of Duty, and Nintendo has a studio that does nothing but pokemon...
If anything, it makes much more likely that Insomniac will don't nothing now Sony has a studio and IP that sells Call of Duty and Pokemon numbers.
Wouldn't expect any less from yet another playstation banger
Loved the original but, perhaps inevitably given the length, I’d had my fill by the time I got to the identical MM. For me it was just too unoriginal by that point. Glad it is successful though, the devs deserve any success.
Deserved. The game that sold me on getting a PS5 at launch, I like it even more than the main game and would say it's among my top 4 favorite Insomniac games with Resistance, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
@trev666 That's exactly my issue with Sony this new Gen. They are overpricing their few games when they are not full next gen experiences. Even HFW is available on ps4. When you compare the value proposition I believe Sony are not competitive enough on the dollars to hours ratio. Good games, yes. Not worth 70$ though.
PS: hidding the Spiderman 1 next gen upgrade behind a 70$ paywall is barely legal and morally dubious.
@JustPlainLoco Those stand alone DLCs you mentioned didn't cost 70$ at launch. Case closed.
@DomGC True, and it is a shame about Guardians, I did have a lot of fun with that one from beginning til its end.
