Cyberpunk 2077 has only just been reborn on PlayStation 5, but developer CD Projekt Red is already looking into some freshly reported issues. On Sony's platforms, this includes the problem that some players are having when trying to upgrade to Cyberpunk on PS5 using their PS4 disc.
Indeed, it's a free upgrade if you already own 2077 on the last-gen console, and the digital upgrade is a relatively simple process, which involves grabbing the PS5 version from the product page (you can find out exactly how to upgrade Cyberpunk 2077 from PS4 to PS5 by clicking the link). But, again, the upgrade isn't working for some people who have a physical PS4 copy.
The Polish studio is also "looking into the possibility" of allowing players to transfer their Trophy data from PS4 to PS5, which should let you unlock all of the trinkets that you may already have in the last-gen version. Right now, no Trophy data carries over, so they need to be attained all over again.
Have you been having any issues with Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5? If you're still not sure about the new version, be sure to give our positive impressions a read, and hit up Night City in the comments section below.

Anything about save files corrupting when imported? Nothing I try fixes this for me.
@Shepherd_Tallon I wonder if that is version specific. My save files were from Version 1.23 and imported OK.
What could CP2077 be without any issues
Tbh my upgrade worked as intended. It needed a few clicks to find it on the PSN product page but it worked.
I upgraded just fine with my disc, for what it’s worth. I just had to “buy” the upgraded version with $0, and the disc has to be in the console for me to play.
My only annoyance is the PS4 version keeps reappearing on my dashboard each time I power on the console (but that's not specific to this game, but seemingly all free PS5 upgrades I have for disc games).
@JimbobLink I had this very thought.
I reinstalled the PS4 version today to create a new save file on the latest build. I sat down after work to get cracking on it, but it's still doing the same thing.
It seems like it's just an issue at my end. I'm not seeing any reports about it.
Yap the upgrade didn't work for me yesterday! It's amazing how they fail at something every single time lol
I hope they do PS5 to PS4 trophy transfer. To get both stacks with the minimal effort I'd rather be able to play the PS5 version than the PS4 version.
@Broosh hmmm sounds like my issue with Tales of Arise as well. This was the only ps4 disk I bought for ps5 and my console kept wanting to download the PS4 version until I finished the game and uninstalled. I'm guessing this means I should not get PS4 disk versions with upgrades. Kinda silly, that.
Worked fine for me.
I hope we get an option to import the trophies or not, I'd prefer to play from scratch and earn them all again
Free upgrade through disc worked fine for me.
@Broosh this is a really annoying behaviour of the console UI. It wasn’t like that before the big update im September. I have the same for CP2077 and the uncharted collection.
Not a huge thing but it could be handled better by the console.
@Medic_Alert exactly the same here. But after all, I’m still happy that we have a version that is working without crashes.
I won’t complain about additional tiles in the Homescreen haha
They fixed the disc upgrade today. And I just booted it off the trial which I mistakingly installed yesterday. After activating the upgrade the trial tag disappeared.
I hate trophy auto pop. I want to earn the trophies again on said system.
A potential fix is to uninstall the PS4 version if you already have that alongside the PS5 version. This won't delete your PS4 cloud save. I found when I opened the PS5 version my disc would open the PS4 app by default.
Will there be a physical PS5 copy?
@Grimwood 1st person sucks in general? Personally, I don't have a big issue with games that are in 1st person at all.
@CrazyOldDave I mean, you can still do that right? Just start a new save.
Yup. I own it on disc. I couldn't download the PS5 version. I ended up buying the digital version on sale 🤷♀️🤦♂️
Whew. So glad I stopped using discs midway through PS4's lifecycle. No issues here with the digital version.
@Broosh
Yeah they all do it. When I boot my PS5 I get to look at two icons for Doom Eternal.
@Broosh yeah they fixed this at one point but then broke it again. Pretty sure PushSquare had an article on it at some point as well. @get2sammyb maybe the man who knows.
This is one of the reasons why I pay $10 more to get the native PS5 disc version. It happens way to often that there are some sort of (temporary) complications with free PS4 to PS5 upgrades. I can't be bothered with that. Especially not with new games on launch day.
These problems rear Thier ugly head time and time again with upgrades , Sony just do something like smart delivery before the next gen !!!!
I didn't have trouble upgrading from my disc, but I would love a trophy transfer. I'm halfway through a second playthrough, and I am not going back to repop all of my previous trophies for a plat. I do hate having to leave the PS4 version installed because it automatically reinstalls with the disc, but that one is on Sony.
I used to think Microsoft’s “smart delivery” was just a marketing gimmick. Now it’s looking like a stroke of genius.
@AFCC worked just fine for me
@Nightcrawler71 @Martsmall "smart delivery" is incompatible with how PS4 and PS5 versions can be different. The player needs to have the choice on which version they play. E.g. No Man's Sky PS5 doesn't have VR, but the PS4 version does; all trophy lists are different between PS4 and PS5 versions; some games use free cloud save to transfer save data, if you can no longer open the PS4 version then you can't open the game your save is compatible with; not all PS4/PS5 games are crossbuy, what happens if someone buys the PS4 version, trying to play it or download it just takes them to the store page to buy the PS5 version?
Unless Sony forces all devs to address things like this, "smart delivery" would just cause more issues.
Man I wish CDPR hadn't patched all of the money exploits, lol they made getting the platinum relatively uncumbersome. I don't think I have it in me to platinum the game all over again. They really need to work on letting us import our trophies
@Reeneman I blame the next gen upgrades more on Sony than on CDPR to be honest. It works flawlessly on Xbox, while almost every game has issues when upgrading to a PS5 version
I don't know if me being in the US had anything to do with it, but I had 0 issues yesterday getting the upgrade with my PS4 disc. You have to use the data disc I suppose, which is what I put in, but I had it in my collection and available to download within a few minutes. It only took that long because it takes a good minute or two for anything to start installing from discs on the PS5 for whatever reason. Once the game popped up on my home screen, the ad for the free PS5 upgrade was there where the game ads/trophy info always is. All I had to do was click on it, and then "purchase" the upgrade for free like I was buying a game. It was in my collection then and I could download it whenever I wanted to.
If it's other regions having issues only, that sucks, but if not then it makes me wonder why it's been so hard for some people to get the upgrade. Is it because some people aren't using the data disc? I dunno.
@Shepherd_Tallon I literally loaded up my ps5 digital version and the continue option was already on, I didn't realise it just carries on without having to do anything for that to happen.
Working fine for me and I’m loving it. I wish there was a bit more interaction with pedestrians but it’s still much better than before
@hoffa007 That's what I was expecting to happen for mine.
I'm convinced it's an issue at my end though.
There's one more fix I'm going to try tomorrow. Hopefully that does it.
How is this still an issue over a year in the ps5 life cycle? I go to update the game…finally updates then find i actually need to go to the store to get the ps5 version and redownload the whole game again. Why doesn’t the ps5 just recognise I own a ps5? Is it really that difficult?
When I went to download the ps5 free upgrade yesterday, it was stuck on Queued for download, but any other game id load up would queue and start straight away.
I started in safe mode, rebuilt database and went back to the store and it queued and started within 5 seconds.
This is why digital is easier am ao glad I own digital edition ps5 digital for digital easy but for those with discs wish was little easier for u all
@PS you have for years championed the representation and inclusion of all in gaming.
As one example we have support for the 8% or so of the population that have some form of colour blindness in this and many other games.
Yet still in 2022 we dont have support for the 8% of so that are born left handed.
This game and many like it, is completely unusable by the vast majority of left handed people that have not chosen to learn to be right handed in some cases.
Yes there are system wide options, but they impact the whole game and all games.
Typically a left handed person would want left handed controls for first person view (a lot of this game) but not for driving (a lot of this game) - thus system wide options do not work.
This game is completely unplayable for 8% of the population because of a simple choice by the developer. A needless choice.
Could we not begin to call out support for this just as we have for colour blindness and other areas bringing inclusivity and diversity ever more to our beloved hobby.
And yes I expect a torrent of abuse from people saying 'live with it', 'learn to be right', 'play something else' - being quiet does not get things fixed. Stand up, call it out.
@Shepherd_Tallon You need to go into the ps4 version of the game and upload your save file from there. Go into your saves and you'll see the option to do this. It, can only be done on 1 save file.
Hop back into the Ps5 version and then import it and you should be good to go sir.
@Uberjinks You, my friend, are a beautiful soul.
Thanks for the tip!
@Shepherd_Tallon Happy to help.
It's a bit of a mess this upgrade, for sure. Had to download the Ps5 trial before I could actually get the proper upgrade from the disc.
Then I had the exact same issue with the saves as your good self.
I'm guessing it only upgrades to PS5 for free if you bought the PS4 Digital version. It's asking me for £19.99 in the UK as I have it on disc on PS4.
@Shepherd_Tallon that is understandable.
I am surprised it didn't just work for everyone but I guess they things happen, fingers crossed it fixes the issue for you tomorrow.
@lindos While I'm not a fan of how you phrased a lot of this, I think you're completely correct - I'm also not sure why there aren't mirrored controllers out there.
Fundamentally I feel like Sony have left an open goal in still not not having a hardware accessibility initiative to rival the XBox Adaptive Controller (which would necessitate software level support also)
