Gran Turismo 7’s weather simulation sounds truly extraordinary. This isn’t just a visual flourish like you see in other racing titles: it’ll have a profound effect on how your car handles. Moreover, there’s more to storms than simply wet and dry surfaces: Polyphony Digital has mapped puddle formations, and even the speed at which certain sections of the tarmac will dry.
Unsurprisingly, this means it’ll not extend to every circuit in the game. Speaking with press during a Q&A earlier this week, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi explained that all tracks in the game will have dynamic clouds, but only a select few will have rain. Currently, it’s unknown which locations will feature full weather simulations.
The same applies to full day-and-night cycles, by the way. While all tracks will be able to transition from morning to evening, only a select few will be able to cycle through an entire day. Yamauchi explained that Polyphony Digital has implemented the feature “where it makes sense”, like on 24-hours tracks such as Le Mans.
While some will be disappointed by these limitations, we’re extremely impressed by what we’ve seen of Gran Turismo 7 so far, and you can read our full preview through here.

People who are dissaponted that not every track has rain in it have probably never been to California where weather doesn't exist. Rain on those tracks is as realistic as snow in a game of Kabaadi
Aww, that’s actually quite a disappointment. What we saw looked incredible so I just assumed it would be a thing in basically every track.
@riceNpea You get a like for knowing about Kabaadi
@AdamNovice
Kabaadi, kabaadi, kabaadi, kabaadi....😁
@riceNpea California weirdo here and I can verify that this is true.
Is there snow? Do they even race in snowy conditions? If there’s snow I’m definitely buying this. I like snow 👀
@BritneyfR_ee now you've said that...I want to know, is there rain in the rally races and does it make things boggy?
Considering the broken mess that is Nascar Ignition I’ll take this any day of the week with a huge smile on my face lol.
I can't believe a racing game has better puddles than Spider-Man. Pick up the slack, Insomniac.
Rain looked really good in this
I got DriveClub vibes from those puddles, which is a good thing
1. DriveClub lives through those rain effect.
3. Not all tracks will have this awesomeness? RIGHT ON! Why am I happy? Well, you know what GT Sport did not have for every track and every mode? VR. Do you know which racing game had the best implemented VR on ps4 bar none. Yup. GT Sport. Bar none. I tried them all. They were either floaty, projectile vomiting inducing or they had their visual fidelity destroyed.
Polyphony, as always, choses quality over quantity. Far out!
Thanks to cross gen. If it was PS5 only then this would not be the case?
@Mezzer And you know this how?
