It’s hard not to feel a little bit sorry for Dying Light 2: Stay Human. The game’s been in-development for an eternity, and finally released this week, but it’s launching in the shadow of two juggernauts: Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring (there’s Gran Turismo 7 just around the corner as well). With so many huge releases on the, ahem, horizon, Techland’s sequel seems hard to justify – at least right now.
It’s a good game, though – let-down by unfulfilled promise, perhaps, but still fun. As we explained in our Dying Light 2 PS5 review: “Dying Light 2 is a super solid follow-up to the 2015 original, building upon its fantastic gameplay loop with new traversal options for even more parkour fun. It's extremely disappointing, however, that the narrative and open world promises Techland made in the lead up to launch haven't been realised. Your choices don't have nearly as much impact as we would like, and the map is much more rigid than pre-release footage would have you believe. Still, Dying Light 2 feels awesome and empowering to play, and that can go a long way.”
If you did grab the game, then we have a full Dying Light 2 guide you can browse through the link, which will help you in your pursuit to stay human. If you didn’t get it, then let us know why in the comments section, and whether you’re planning to grab it at a later date – the Polish developer has, after all, promised five years of post-release support.

No. I bought a De'longhi bean-to-cup coffee machine and it's amazing!
I’ll probably pick a copy up eventually.
BTW the game is £42 from Tesco with a clubcard if anyone is interested...

I pre ordered it,not got it yet because you know royal mail are crap and its been on an adventure across the UK, even went to Scotland for some reason and I'm from the North West 🙄
My brother bought it but I personally have no interest in it. The marketing focusing on quantity over quality put me off.
The visuals could be better on PS5 but other then that its really good.
The game is gonna have 5 years of support. It's not gonna get more expensive. Or perform worse. It always pays to wait.
I’m really enjoying it. 5 hours in on PS5 and no bugs to speak of so day one patch must have done something.
@WallyWest out of interest which graphics/performance setting have you chosen to play the game in?
Not interested right now - Black Friday may well tempt me...
I got it but haven’t started it yet - I want to finish the Legacy of Thieves collection first. Unfortunately, the trophy synch feature didn’t work properly (I had 100% save files for both games on PS4) so I’m having to platinum both games again on PS5. I don’t mind though because I’m enjoying it (ask me again after I beat the ‘Crushing’ modes 😫).
I’ve already decided I’m not going for the platinum in Dying Light 2 anyway because it seems too much like hard work (missable collectibles and side quests that disappear if you don’t do them before the story progresses etc.). So, I’ll just play the story and hopefully finish/sell it before Horizon FW arrives.
I might have kept/played it longer if the trophies weren’t so poorly implemented. Some devs never learn sadly.
I really enjoyed the first game. This looks like more of the same, which sounds good to me. Shame they botched the story and oversold the choice elements. Still, looks like a fun summer game to play after the price drops a bit.
@riceNpea ha, great choice! Try a dark roast espresso bean from Lavazza
There needs to be an option of: I would be buying this but I need to actually play through the first one (looks at 100 + games in pile of shame 😭😭😭)
PS5. Was on the fence but so far it's far better than my expectations. Performance mode (the best way to play). 60fps is the most important part of this new gen gaming not RT etc (unless both is combined). It's slick and solid on PS5. I flipped to quality and resolution modes and once I saw the sludge like 30fps I switched right back to 60. It's a game changer in a game of this ilk with its brilliant movement system.
@Ear_wiG it's superior to the first game. I turned off the first game after 1 hour...hated that sluggish 30fps and buggy launch.... On PS5 DL2 is slick and tidy at 60fps.
Bought it physically for PS5 AND bought it digitally for PS5 as well because I was just excited to play this game and didn't want to have to wait to play it 4 days later (Physical Copy comes via mail).
Not gonna lie, despite the fact I'm playing Dying Light 2 on PS5, it feels like I'm playing the PS4 version, doesn't seem like they gave the next-gen versions much thought if I'm being honest.
That being said I'm having a blast with Dying Light 2, the parkour system is vastly improved, the world is literally your playground, but Dying Light 2 also has a lot of flaws that I can't overlook despite my enjoyment. The story & characters so far are as average as the first game's character's and story, also not a fan of how it plays more like an RPG in terms of gear, weapons & crafting, it doesn't really suit this type of game IMO, and while the combat is better when dealing with human enemies, dealing with infected sometimes doesn't feel as satisfying as the first game, in the first game if you swung your weapon there was a good chance you would always hit more than one enemy if you aimed your attack correctly, but in Dying Light 2 it feels like swinging your weapon will almost always ONLY hit one enemy at a time even when they are grouped up together, unless you're wielding a two-handed weapon. I didn't even mention the bugs & glitches, mostly consisting of occasional texture pop-ins, certain prompts refusing to work (Survival Sense doesn't always activate when I want it to) and sometimes when speaking to NPC's the camera will suddenly focus on a wall as they continue talking.
I actually enjoyed the first game a lot more than I had expected to, but even then I didn't buy it, I got a review copy for another gaming site I used to write at. I just think my interest in things that are either open world and/or zombie is at an all time low currently.
I'm grabbing Elden Ring later this month and that's the only heavy hitter I'm buying early this year.
@Rambolike I actually have bought Lavazza Qualita Rossa to start with 😊
Have no interest in the series but may give it a go once it’s on sale.
Contrary to most, I thought I'd like the first game but ended up not being impressed at all. It got old very quickly for me which is why I haven't even bothered with 2 yet and probably won't.
I haven't played the first one, do I need to or am I good to jump in on the sequel?
Saying that I'll probably just stick to HFW but maybe I'll grab Elden Ring also and Sifu (traded in some games, so plenty credit for new ones)😃
@mrtennis1990 Yeah I think this is a wait for a sale game for me too. Maybe for $30 I'll pick it up
It's not my cup of tea really.
Horizon and Elden Ring on the way as the article notes, and now Ghostwire is grabbing my attention more and more, with Forspoken not long after that.
I'll probably dabble with Stranger of Paradise and Babylon's Fall at some point too.
I reckon that lot will keep me going until God of War and Breath of the Wild II.
@GorosBat I feel your backlog shame. But I don’t think you need to play the first one really. I don’t remember anything about the story or the characters from the first game. All I remember is the fear of being out on the streets. Being down on street level or inside a building felt so claustrophobic. Getting up high or on a rooftop was such a relief. Until the sun goes down…
I'm sure I'll run out of games I'm actively excited to play at some point. When that time comes, I'll consider playing Dying Light 2.
I really enjoyed the first game, but this was released too close to Elden Ring for my liking. Will defo pick it up at some point in the year though.
Had is preordered for the original release date, cancelled it when it got pushed back, simply due to the heavy release schedule early this year. The late marketing strategy really put me off the game though. It started reminding me of the hubris Cyberpunk had. Then people started showing the game in action and talking about the story and it lost me on the game.
Now, you all can complain about what I’m going to say next, but honestly I hope that Dying Light drops the story and flat characters for a GAAS style game for the next one. I want that gameplay without needing to slog through it.
@BritneyfR_ee "don’t mind though because I’m enjoying it (ask me again after I beat the ‘Crushing’ modes 😫)."
You really wanna go through with "gotta find a way to the beach" AGAIN...
Not yet.i havent finish dying light the following yet.plus dying light 2 stay human will have a lot of campaign dlcs.so its best to wait for that.word up son
I’ll wait for a big sale.
The first half of 2022 is stacked. By the second half things will calm down a bit (assuming Breath of the Wild 2 gets delayed) so this game should be selling for 30 bucks by then and I’ll actually have time for it.
No, i was going to, but im sick of these Polish developers chatting sh*t and not delivering. It may still be a good game, but its not what they promised, so i will pick it up cheap instead of buying day one like i promised.
@riceNpea I've tried all 3 but stuck with performance due to how bad the motion blur feels with 30fps on the other two settings. While the lighting is nice as well as the draw distance i feel the PS5 and Series X should and could look much better, the PC version looks stunning and while i don't expect it at that level i do think current gen versions should be closer to PC then last gen versions.
Just to be clear its a good looking game and has some truly great visuals at times its just i expected it to look much better on current gen machines, after seeing the PC version i just feel Techland could have aimed higher for PS5 and Series X.
@Loftimus Hmm mild raciam much? The game is largely what they promised its just the story and choice system isn't quite as in depth as we thought it would be. Comparing them to CDPR is just reaching hard.
I bought a coat and a jumper because its freezing and ill end up turning into a zombie at this point 😅
Gaming funds being saved for Horizon in a couple of weeks 🙂
Dying Light 2 has been one of my most anticipated games so if course I bought it.Digital over physical, mainly because I have Special Edition physical of Horizon coming in two weeks so I don't wanna keep swapping discs.
Absolutely loving it so far!

have absolutely no interest
You are missing another option “when it is on a deep sale a year from now”
Reviews are looking pretty good but I'm waiting for Horizon. That being said, if you buy this one you're definitely getting a lot of bang for your buck.
Saw this. Anyone got similar issues?

@MightyDemon82 - Nah you don't have to have played the first one to be able to understand what's going, the story & characters weren't exactly the first game's strong point, plus Dying Light 2 has a 2-minute recap video before you even reach the starting menu that fills you in on all you need to know.
I would still recommend playing Dying Light and it's Story DLC The Following. The Following DLC actually has a good story and better characters. If you're looking for a fun zombie game, you really can't go wrong with Dying Light & The Following DLC, and the gameplay alone makes for an incredibly fun experience, and more than makes up for Dying Light's so-so story & characters.
I'm a couple of hours in on ps5, really enjoying it so far.
@WallyWest did you mean mild racism? If you did please explain which part of his comment was racist as i cant see how he was being racist..
I’ve only just started playing the original after having it in my collection for years. It’s been pretty good actually, but maybe not enough for me to buy this sequel at full price. I’ll probably scoop it up once the inevitable platinum edition releases at a later date.
Horizon & Elden Ring ate around the corner which I will both pick up on launch day. Going to play through Forbidden West first once I finish that I move on to Elden Ring.
@WallyWest right. The PC version does seem to be able to do it all.
@BritneyfR_ee That is a good point about the story. I thought it was serviceable but totally forgettable at the same time.
@JustPlainLoco Thanks I'll probably pick it up in a sale. Looks like a decent game!
I didnt play the first one but i might buy this
I bought it for the PS5 the a few hours before it released. I’ve loved it so far. It’s been a very solid experience for me and feels like a big improvement over the first one in many ways.
@Northern_munkey Implying Polish devs are liars.
Preordered Fable, Mass Effect 3, Cyberpunk, DL2 and Elden Ring. Canceled pre order on DL2 after no detailed information about open world, narrative choices, different endings, join factions make a difference. The lies we believe…
@WallyWest well thats not being racist..implying something without proof? Slanderous at a real big push but racist? Not even in the same post code..
I bought Dying Light Platinum recently it was fun at first but found it got repetitive very quickly and I gave up. I had my eye on 2 but think I will pass now
I've installed it but still busy playing FarCry 6
Getting horizon when it launches so I'm going to wait till I've finished that
@Northern_munkey It might not have been racist but it was very oddly specific to single out polish developers as if they have a higher propensity to exaggerate how great their game is. Literally any developer, if you sit them down in front of a camera, will lie to your face about how good their game is and about how all these features will be in when they're ultimately not. The original comment made it seem as if polish developers in particular seem to do it with malicious intent to lie to consumers when any other developer would tell you the same if you get them in front of a camera.
@ATaco i'm not disputing that..yes 2 developers have sold us a few porkie pies and unfortunatley they both happen to be polish..that dosnt mean the original poster of said comments was being racist as the apptly named "wally" implied but was in fact pointing out the glaringly obvious..i'd be a bit miffed if i was called out as being racist by somebody who obviously dosnt know what is a racist comment and what isnt..it appears that with this game there was a lot of ambition and they just couldnt deliver on what they talked up..the devs behind no mans sky found themselves in the exact same situation and that game eventually turned out to be one of the best indie games ever..maybe sometimes people get upset because they were expecting something better than what they ended up with..no need to turn the posters comments into a non existent race thing...
Maybe on a deep sale someday, it just doesn't have much that excites me at all. Plus SIFU comes out a few days after it, which looked more fun & something to play before the onslaught about to come out.
@WallyWest your take on his comment is reaching just as far as the guy's take about Polish developers. His is because there are Polish devs like Bloober Team who put out great games that are exactly what they say they are. Your comment is because his issue/problem with them isn't specifically that they are Polish but because of false promises he feels those devs have made.
@WallyWest I’m surprised at how entrenched in one camp or the other it is, select resolution and the frame rate is a very steady rough on the eye whereas you select performance and it almost looks SD. Not even messed with quality mode, who cares what that does, all about the fluidity here
@Northern_munkey fair enough, to me it just seemed a bit odd to call out "Polish developers" instead of the dev team themselves. It would be like calling out "British developers" instead of Hello Games, in the case of No Man's Sky.
@ATaco i agree..maybe using the devs names would have been the better way to have made their point..
@ATaco I'm sure the guy probably would have said the same about British devs if he felt they were doing the same thing. Either way, not racist. A bit weird, sure. But gamers can be very weird.
I bought the first one when it came out and got bored after a few hours, never really clicked with me. So I may get this one in the future if it's on sale somewhere.
@ATaco if i picked out a single developer as Polish or British, as you say, then you and wally would have a point, but i was talking about multiple developers from the same country, doing the same thing.
Turning this into anything racial is delusional and should be treat as such.
@Loftimus At this point I think him using "racist" to describe it wasn't the right word choice...but it seems we're still in agreement that what you said was just kind of...weird. Inappropriate maybe? I dunno.
@ATaco never mind. You'll both get over it one day. I can't go pandering to every level of sensitivity, and why should i?
You two are the ones making something out of nothing. Calling me a racist or implying there was racist intent. Who do either of you think you are?
@Loftimus Don't worry, I'm not planning to lose sleep over it. Have a nice day!
@ATaco no apology or nothing? What a surprise!
I had it pre-orderd on the PC but it couldn't get passed the loading screen so I got a refund from Steam and bought it from the PS store instead.
So far its been alright, you can tell that the development started 7 years ago, some elements feel quite dated, and there are others that feel tacked on like they weren't very well thought out before hand.
But it can be a very pretty game at times, if at the cost of immersiveness, I mean its cool having full grown trees on the tops of the houses but where are their roots? And most enemies are cut n paste. It's weird killing so many identical twins, triplets etc :/
But it's dying light and I played the original to death (sic)), along with Dead Island (cool Sam B reference by the way!), and I get the same vibe from this so that's fine by me
@Loftimus it's really hard for me to take your comment about "I can't go pandering to everyone's sensitivities" seriously when you then say things like "who do you think you are?" & "no apology or nothing?" It's just weird to imply they're being sensitive but then exhibit similar sensitivity. But you seem to make a lot of weird comments and that's okay I guess.
Listen, I spoke up and I think most regular people here realized it was reaching to say your comments were racist. I think your comment was also reaching but regardless, you're entitled to your opinion. But my point is, your comment wasn't racist & there's no need to really go on the defensive because it was pretty clear to most that it wasn't racial in nature. Your whole defensive stance was more of you being butt hurt & offended & being, I dare say, sensitive. Even when the guy conceded & was cordial, you once again had to follow it up with some potshots. So while not being racist, you seem just as sensitive as those who've offended you.... just something to think about.
@GalacticBreakdown Nice one. There is a big difference between what i said and calling someone racist. And how is not expecting an apology or asking someone who they think they are, sensitive?
Cheers for joining in though, it's been great...
And there's a difference between me "joining in" and me commenting on things when I feel it's warranted. Several people came to your defense about your comments being racist and all the stuff you said after was just combative & trying to bait them into an argument/get a response, especially the apology comment. So that was why I felt the need to call out the irony of you saying "I can't pander to everyone's sensitivities." I'm sorry the response you received, wasn't the one you were looking to get.
Waiting until a sale. I was going to pick it up but the combat looks very samey and February is a big month.
I did not buy it. I did, however, start playing Dying Light 1, which has been in my backlog for a few years now.
I'll buy it eventually, waiting for it to hit $20 or cheaper during a sale.
@Loftimus both myself and ataco said there was nothing racist in your comment however we both agreed that maybe you could have chosen better words to express your disdain..now you are attacking one of the guys that defended you and in the process making yourself look like a hard done by ingrate..any credibility or sympathy you managed to pull back has now been tarnished..well done friend..
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Loftimus whatever child..
@Northern_munkey see what i mean? I'm the 42 year old child who is "attacking" people, yet you're the one throwing insults about? Get off that high horse of yours and take a look in the mirror.
@GalacticBreakdown i called them out for not apologizing like they tried to call me out for being a racist. I think im well within my rights to do that don't you? Nothing sensitive about it is there? Petty, maybe, but when northern monkey was talking sense, even they said it's a p*ss take in so many words.
@Loftimus i'm 49 bud..i'm not on any high horse i'm just a bit more level headed than you..i can have a perfectly formed conversation with you if you want one..i thought you being labled racist was wrong..i also thought as did ataco that maybe you could have expressed yourself a little better so as to avoid any confrontation but it appears that is what you desired..you attacked ataco and then myself when it was pointed out you were appearing a tad ungratefull..if this is your attitude when you are 42 years old and think that this is somehow acceptable to you then yes you are acting childish like a petulant teenager would..exercise a little bit of humility...
@riceNpea Great choice👌Enjoy

"never mind. You'll both get over it one day. I can't go pandering to every level of sensitivity, and why should i?
You two are the ones making something out of nothing. Calling me a racist or implying there was racist intent. Who do either of you think you are?"
Here is where you "attacked" ataco..maybe attacked is a bit strong so lets amend it to "here is where you appeared to be a bit ungrateful towards ataco after he defended you against wallywest's comment about you being racist." I think that more than highlights the issue for you but you are so consumed by your red mist that any rational thought is now beyond you..you have lost this little war of words you instigated and shown the whole of the push square community exactly what kind of person you truly are and how easy it is to rattle your cage...i'm truly sorry that we cant see eye to eye on this and i'm equally sorry i defended you in the first place..enjoy the rest of your weekend..
I bought it and am not disappointed. Some people complain about console resolutions and fps but this game is dense, especially later on with lots of interiors to go with a big city. Most people on PC can't even get 1440p60.
I’m on the fence on buying the platinum edition for Series X. If I like it I’ll purchase the second on PS5.
I’m really not a huge zombie fan but I think the gameplay itself looks super dope and I’m a sucker for most open-world games. Tough call!
Seeing an xp boost on editions has deterred me from even checking out the game because it presents a pay2win store model before the game is out. I can't support any game with this business model.
I was interested in the concept watched trailer ( never seen first game) abs decided it’s not for me seems to far fetched I am a massive last of us fan an twd fan but I can’t get it into this seems too far fetched , I know the irony of saying it’s far fetched and not saying it about lou and twd
This is a £10 impulse buy kinda game for me.
No interest but if I'm in need of something to play and its cheap I'll get it.
I got it and am absolutely loving it so far. Parkouring is so good and a big improvement over the original. Great environment and fun combat. Despite the mixed reviews, I’m enjoying every minute so far.
@riceNpea what one mate? I was considering getting a Sage express, difficult to know what one to get.
@EquiinoxGII
De'Longhi Bean to Cup Coffee Machine ESAM4200.S
Very happy so far. Lovely crema to the coffee and can be strong like how I like it. Also makes excellent frothy milk 😊
@riceNpea thanks mate, I'll have a look!
I've rented it and I'm loving it. I really enjoyed the 1st one and this one is great too. The graphics are good but I've have noticed a few tearing issues during cut scenes on the ps5 so an update will need to fix that but it's not game breaking. I'm not very far in at all and I'm having to get used to the controls again due to them being different to most games (R1 to Jump) but overall I'm happy with it. Look forward to progressing further.
@Ziek1883 That would be just the edition of the game. Right now there is no way of buying any XP boosters on the store or in game.
@Roqka I would say go for it if its cheap enough. I really enjoyed the 1st one and number 2 is so far really good aswell. I would say take the jump for number 2 but for what I've seen I do think getting the story from 1 will make things easier to understand, not essential but would help.
@Valgore Yeah, platinum edition is on sale for $15 right now, think I’ll pick it up. I can wait with number 2, coming months are packed with great games anyway.
With Horizon coming next friday I don't even have the time for another open world game. And kinda over zombie games, Days Gone was the last I enjoyed. Played the first DL on pc back in the day, it was good.
@MFTWrecks dont wait, you could be dead tomorrow
So got this but got the PS4 disc because they were sold out of the PS5 version. I figured, oh it’s got a free upgrade. My mistake. It’s continually trying to install the PS4 version every time I boot it up. Has this still not been fixed?!?
I bet everyone who is hating on this game are the same people who say “breath of the wild is the best game ever” breath of the wild was decent but it wasn’t the best game ever by any means I was more impressed by Witcher 3. As for dying light 2 I’m sure it’s good maybe not amazing but not bad by any means
@WallyWest I started playing it on Quality Mode and it looks pretty nice. not really bothered with 60fps for this as the first one i played @ 30fps and only recently finished it/
