Journey is an impactful, meaningful game to a lot of people. And it happens to be 10 years old today. A transcendent voyage that speaks to so many disparate corners of the gaming world, even 10 years on, Journey never really left the sphere of discourse in the medium. And one of the most enduring components of the experience is that of composer Austin Wintory’s sublime score. The only game soundtrack to ever be nominated for a Grammy, it also happened to garner the top Honor when we counted down the best soundtracks of last decade. To say that we think highly of the soundtrack here at Push Square would be putting it very mildly.
A teaser for something went up on Austin Wintory’s YouTube channel earlier in the week, which has now been followed by a second, lengthier video, offering a glimpse at a new version of Journey’s illustrious score. Described as both a “re-orchestration”, and a “re-imagining”, Wintory has recruited the London Symphony Orchestra to deliver Traveler: A Journey Symphony, which you can grab now on Bandcamp, or stream in all the usual places should you prefer.
In addition to the London Symphony Orchestra, Traveler features the talents of the London Voice Choir, and the return of frequent Wintory collaborator, cellist Tina Guo, as well as a bevy of vocalists. Do you share in our passion for Journey’s soundtrack? Are you excited to give this new interpretation a listen? Have you already started? Let us know down below.

10 years? Wow! Played through it multiple times and enjoyed it every time.
Very nice, and glad to see its on Bandcamp. I’m not sure what the future holds for them now that they’ve been bought, but Bandcamp has been my go to site for music for years. Hopefully they can continue being artist and fan friendly for a while longer.
One of the best and most unique soundtracks to any game. More akin to a symphony than a traditional game score, the music tells a tale in itself. One of a handful of games I finished and immediately went to buy the soundtrack… which wasn’t immediately available
Ah, when I played this game for the first time, at first, I was thinking what the heck is this game, but then I found someone at some point, and we, well we journeyed together, I will always remember my first time beating the game.
And I still do play this game, I will get the white cloak one day.
10 years!?
I don't feel old. You feel old.
I was just watching an old PlayStation Access video on this game the other day. I forgot how genuinely emotional the experience of playing it could be.
This game was quite the experience for me when I was younger playing this circa 2015ish. Back then I was at my loneliest and was miserable. But something about meeting a total stranger and going on an experience was really profound for me. I will never know who that stranger was I played through the whole game with but my imagination ran wild about who this other person was and it inspired me to get it more and meet new people. Probably wouldn't have ever met my spouse and be where I am in life now without this game in a strange way.
