Gran Turismo 7's first major update since launch has just arrived for both PlayStation 5 and PS4, and it seems like a doozy. Wasting no time to improve the driving sim, Polyphony Digital has made patch 1.06 available today, adding more content and making a bunch of fixes.
The headline addition here appears to be an expansion to Music Replay. The studio has added 64 songs to the functionality, giving you way more choice when playing back your replays to music. Elsewhere, a wind direction and wind speed indicator have been added to the in-race display, giving you even more info on the driving conditions.
Beyond these, there are myriad bug fixes that prevent errors, progression blocks, and much more. The patch notes are lengthy and get very specific, so we won't labour them too much here, save to say the game's now even more spotless. The patch itself weighs in at roughly 916MB on PS5. We've embedded the full rundown below in case you're interested. Have you been having any issues with GT7 at all? Speed into the comments section below.
Main Features Implemented
1. Race Display
- Added wind direction and wind speed indicators. An arrow (wind direction) and number (wind speed) will be displayed on the upper right of the screen under the Track Map.
2. Music Replay
- Added 64 music tracks.
Other Improvements and Adjustments
1. Progression blocks and application errors
- Fixed a very rare issue wherein progress made on a Menu Book would not be recognised and prevented players to continue their playthrough;
- Fixed an issue wherein an application error would occur when using the broadcast features of the PlayStation®4 system;
- Fixed an issue wherein an application error would occur when 'Shoot' is selected in 'Race Photo' during a replay displayed in 4K on the PlayStation®4 Pro system and with the aspect ratio set to 16:9;
- Fixed an issue wherein an application error would occur when 'License Plate' is selected in 'GT Auto' under [Car Customisation] > [Other], while progressing Menu Book No. 20, 'Show Your Custom Wing.'
2. World Circuits
- Fixed an issue wherein the actual time of day in a 'Custom Race' of some tracks would not match the selection made in [Time / Weather Settings] > [Timeframe];
- Fixed an issue with the Sector 2's Bronze target time in the 'Circuit Experience' of the 'Willow Springs Raceway: Streets of Willow Springs' track that made the Bronze prize unachievable;
- Fixed an issue wherein it was possible to choose cars without dirt tyres installed from the [Settings] > [Change Car] of the Quick Menu during a 'Time Trial' and 'Drift Trial' on Dirt tracks;
- Fixed an issue with the weather for all race events;
- The Overtake function for the Dallara SF19 Super Formula / Honda '19 has been disabled in the Licence test 'S-7' (One Lap Time Attack) within the 'Licence' pavilion. (The ranking boards have been reset.)
3. GT Auto
- Fixed an issue wherein the racing suit would not be displayed in 'Driving Gear' under certain conditions;
- Deleted the 'Duplicate on Opposite Side' and 'Duplicate Symmetrically' menu items from the 'Layer Controls' of the left and right arms while editing Racing Suit Livery;
- Fixed an issue wherein work results would not be applied in 'Car Maintenance & Service' if the work is selected by moving the cursor with the Left stick.
4. Car Settings
- Fixed an issue wherein the Setting Sheet would become blank, and the setting content could not be saved. With this fix, the blank setting sheets will remain but you will be able to delete these normally. This will also fix the progression blockers encountered when the Menu Book tasks involved Car Settings;
- Fixed an issue wherein a car would return to its original wheels if the Setting Sheet was modified while a non-standard wheel was equipped;
- Fixed an issue wherein the 'Top Speed (Automatically Adjusted)' would not adjust properly when a Fully Customisable transmission was installed;
- Fixed an issue wherein the speeds displayed under Rotational G's were incorrect;
- Fixed an issue wherein adding a new Setting Sheet for a car where the engine was swapped would not carry that information over the new sheets. The engine swap will now be applied to all Setting Sheets.
5. Showcase & My Page
- Fixed an issue within 'Showcase' wherein the 2nd page and beyond would not be displayed properly if the number of items in 'My Items' and 'Collection' exceeded 100;
- Fixed an issue within 'Gallery' wherein the 2nd page and beyond would not be displayed properly if the number of items in 'My Page' exceeded 100 items.
6. Brand Central
- Fixed an issue wherein an Invitation icon would appear in the 'Showroom' of manufacturers even when the player did not have an invitation.
7. Replay
- Fixed an issue wherein the Replays and Demo Replays would not play all the way until the end.
8. Multiplayer
- Fixed an issue wherein the 'Assist Settings' would reset after joining a location and quitting without entering a race;
- Fixed an issue wherein the weather and time set by the host would not reflect correctly for the other players in the room.
9. Options
- Changed the 'Flash and Toggle High/Low Beams' function assigned to the default button of the DUALSHOCK®4 and DualSense™ wireless controllers to 'Flash High Beams'. If the button had been remapped previously, selecting the 'Restore Default Settings' will apply the change;
- Fixed an issue wherein the BGM would not play during Music Replay if the [Sound Volume] > [Menu BGM] volume level was set to 0;
- Fixed an issue wherein the changes to the exposure value in the ‘Exposure and Saturation’ settings made when starting the game for the first time would not be reflected in the preview screen.
10. Steering Controller
- Fixed an issue wherein the Thrustmaster TH8A shifter would not operate properly when connected to the USB. Please note that the PlayStation®5 console is not compatible with this USB connection. The shifter can be used by connecting it directly to the steering wheel base using a 'DIN-to-DIN' cable.
11. Others
- Fixed an issue wherein clearing all licence tests on wet surfaces would not award the Bronze trophy ‘Rain Royalty.’ Players who have already cleared the relevant tests can acquire the trophy by clearing the tests again;
- The Race Demo displayed during Auto Demos has been changed to a Music Replay;
- Various other issues have been addressed.

I really need to sink some time into this but Elden Ring has this way of taking my gaming time haha. From what i've played though its been great.
Have they added a feature to stop me from running just one more race in the wee hours of the night so I can get enough sleep? This game has that same gravitational pull for me as those classic GTs of old. Great to be experiencing it again after so many years.
Really want the ability to sell the cars I’m winning and don’t want lol
Brumm brumm
Game is so nice.
Too many great games currently with not enough time
CP2077, GT7 and Horizon 2
@Akila_24 you gotta catch them all
I have expected them to reverse the egregious microtransactions live service model, lol. but nope, so it's still a nope for me.
Either way, vroom vroom vroom 😁 Game's amazing. Wiped out that bad taste in my mouth the ending of RE Village left 😝
@KundaliniRising333
Unless you have zero will power you don't need to get any micro transaction. Mind the car price thing is stupid.
Where the servers down this morning all I was getting was they are doing maintenance. They really need to get rid of the online connection even for single player.
@KundaliniRising333 There not going to take MTX away after less then week, if at all. Lmao
@Amnesiac bag in how I feel about it. I can't out it down, such a great game.
How are people getting on with using the dualsense and not a wheel? Is it still good?
Racing hard tyres in the rally event in one of the mission events is annoying. Can't even get bronze. Apparently pre patch 1.6 it was fine but I'm guessing the "fix issue with none dirt tyres on dirt tracks" thingy has bugged that event. Guess il have to wait for a fix for that.
Here's a link to what I mean
https://youtu.be/fLTvLVvIok4
@suikoden I hear you but that's exactly what I mean, the online connection and more are part of it. I am not silly enough to buy into micro transactions, however I am also not going to purchase a game where live service micro transactions are baked into the very foundation of the game's design. As in that design are subtle but frequent moments of exacerbation meant to compel the player over time to pay for credits.
It's just not gonna happen for me, the game is not worth it no matter how much I loved the first few GTs
@AdamNovice one can dream lol
Love this game. But will say, the online-requirement thing is absolutely stupid & ridiculous. Logged on last night at 11pm after a long day, I just wanted to progress with through single player, and pretty much all modes were disabled to due "scheduled maintenance"... What an effin' joke. Can I just play my game that I purchased?
@KundaliniRising333 2million credits for 20€... sorry to say but that would be just stupid to buy that one legendary car the Ford MK is 4.6mil so more than 40€ for a car lol
There is no need for anyone to buy credits. You can earn almost 100,000 in just over 5 minutes.
Play and enjoy the game, your money just stacks up.
@Gloamin no they were there last build. In fact, I'm wondering if this a a feature of switching from ray tracing mode to performance mode. I've noticed it loads since switching and in fact the popin is worse than the draw distance of my Dreamcast! Loads of detail everywhere, but when it comes to shadows under a bridge, there is so much pop in it reminds me of the ps1 days....*
*Btw, I'm a pain in the arse in real life too.
I would love more track info before jumping in to a race like time of day, temp, weather, expected weather change etc. A lap extention wouldnt go a miss either like being able to double career race lengths. Also im getting really peeved about "start in last and come better than 4th to earn the car" becomes really boring after a while. So many things the game does right then so many things it does to pull it away from other simulation racers. Should all be grid starts with atleast a 1 hot lap qualifier.
I wish the hud had more customisable options
@VatoLoco47 100% agree. Cant turn off the map without removing all the instruments. Just do what you can do in so many other racers. Project cars 2 lets you completely customise the hud to the point were you can move whatever you want to any part of the screen or remove individual bits. No wheel and pedal set up apart from button bindings either. The actual racing, graphics and car handling is glorious, its the rest of the game thats stuck in the past.
@cheonseojin it was possible already to disable it from playing on start up.
@cheonseojin
I think it's always been skippable. Just push circle, not square 😉
Absolutely loving GT7. The first racing game I’ve ever bought and the first racing game I’ve actually enjoyed.
I was absolutely clueless before I started but choosing the ‘easy’ setting with all the helpful guides activated has been so much fun.
They talk to you like you’re a child but it’s oddly comforting and encouraging.
It reminds me of that episode of Grace & Frankie, where Frankie gets a new MacBook and she calls ‘tech support’. At first, she gets through to the regular tech support but when they realise she’s ‘70 years old!’ they put her through to this super helpful dude called ‘Mike’ who walks her through the basics like an extremely patient and dear friend. That’s GT7! But instead of ‘Mike’ it’s ‘Luca’ (and others) and he’s working overtime, encouraging me to progress further with the game.
It’s amazing honestly. I never thought I’d care about a racing game but the way GT7 is presented is brilliant for newcomers (and people who know literally ‘nothing’ about cars or racing - me). I already feel like I’ve learned a tone so far and am eager to learn more.
It doesn’t hurt that the game looks so good and the music is great too. Incredible game.
@BritneyfR_ee could really do with bullet points in the tuning section tho to help people who may not know what changing certain setting does to the car. "hang on a minute, the back end keeps skipping out on the corners but the bullet point says if i soften the rear springs it can help with oversteer" Once again, plenty of games do it but GT7 fails to. Forza was doing this 10 years ago and it was a tremendous help. The more i play it the more issues i find with GT7.
Pleased you have found a racer that you can enjoy tho. Thats whats its all about.
@cheonseojin you mean when you boot the game? I found the first time I started it, it was not.. but now I can skip it. So must be just when you first start the game.
I want to play this but I’ve just accidentally ran over/killed well over 100 people in Cyberpunk 2077 in my journey for the platinum. I feel like I should be barred from driving games. But the temptation is real.
If you go to GT Planet they have a post detailing the quickest way to make money. I think it’s about 1.75m credits per hour.
I can't wait to sink my teeth into this. I'm continuing my first playthrough of DQXI now after I finished God of War, and I love DQXI so much that I don't want it to end. Then I have to finish Ghost of Tsushima, and Metal Gear 5, Control for the 1st time, and the Witcher 3 when the PS5 patch comes out for the 1st time.
It might be 2023 before I can get to GT7, or Elden Ring, and that rocks 😃
Anyone else having trouble with 'My Page' after the patch? The profile and cover pics I set are gone and if I try to set a new one it won't show up. Also I can't use other people's liveries or anything because of some server error.
@KundaliniRising333 I think the version of this game that exists in your head is not the version that exists in reality. Claiming that GT7 is designed around micro transactions is just breathtakingly wrong. I could reiterate that purchasing cars through mtx is unnecessary and even detrimental to enjoying the game, as so many others who have played the game have already posted. But it seems you’re more interested in tilting against micro transaction shaped windmills then GT7 itself, so charge on knight-errant and leave the rest of us to enjoy our time at Willow Springs, Goodwood, and the like.
@Amnesiac i agree. Ive been playing GT7 solely since launch and i hardly ever notice the MTX promp when on the credits screen. Should it be in there to begin with? Probarbly not, does it hinder my enjoyment, make me want to buy them or shove it in my face? Most definately not.
@cheonseojin Yes and you can turn it off completely.
What a game!
How far in are you all BTW? I'm about to start menu 37 (be a lot further if I had the time) and I'm loving it. Had an absolutely EPIC race around Deep Forest last night. Literally came down to a last corner banzai move...... Which I messed up, so finished second. 😂
Also, there's a monkey in a tree at Trial mountain.
..... Not even joking! 😵
They need to add a way of changing the track in a multiplayer lobby without having to back out and create a whole new lobby.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Yeah, in a perfect world the MTX wouldn’t be there. But as is stands, they’re like a bit of bird poop on the hood of a Fairlady Z. Once you start driving you don’t even notice.
@TheDarkSide That’s a lot of menus! I’m just wrapping up collecting Nissans, which I think is menu 18 or so. Now that’s on hold so I can track down this monkey in Trial Mountain I just heard about…
@TheDarkSide think im on about menu 20.collecting some BMW's on the Nord and red bull ring. Just wish i could turn the 2 lap in to 10 laps so it actually feels like a race. Do the laps extent further through the Menus?
Whaeres the monkey. I want to see it now 🐒🐒
@cheonseojin You can turn it off in the settings.
@Kidfunkadelic83 So, the only races (from the cafe menus) I've seen that are that long are the ovals. Some of the other tracks, as you progress through the menus, are 4-5 lappers. Maybe longer races would be an option later on, but so far it looks like you'd have to venture outside the cafe for what you want.
I'd like that too TBH. It's a shame there's no way (so far) to scale the events as you wish, outside of custom races.
@TheDarkSide the thing im finding frustrating is on medium im in first place by the end of the 1st lap but on hard if i spin out ive got no chance to get in to 1st because the races are so short and im trying to keep my PP as close to the recommend as possible meaning alot of restarting races. Id like the opportunity to be able to fight back up the pack over a few more laps. The racing is fantastic tho.
@Kidfunkadelic83 It gets a bit tougher later on, but I know what you mean. I've had incredible battles followed by easy wins followed by no chance of winning whatsoever. Could do with a bit of balancing in places, methinks.
Tremendous when it's in the sweet spot though. 👍
