Aw sh*t, here we go again! Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the greatest selling games of all time, shifting over 160 million copies in the decade or so since it debuted. First released on the PlayStation 3 in 2013, the game was a mainstay on software sales charts throughout the entire PS4 generation, and now it’s launched on the PS5. For those of you playing on Sony’s new-gen console, you’ll be able to download GTA Online for free, while the single player campaign will carry an introductory cost of just £8.75/$9.99 until 14th June, 2022. But is it worth the upgrade?
Rockstar has barely touched Los Santos since it launched on PS4 in 2014. That means, regardless of whether you invested in a PS4 Pro or have been using PS5’s backwards compatibility, the console version of the game has been locked at 30 frames-per-second in 1080p for the past eight years. Unsurprisingly, then, seeing the release presented at 60 frames-per-second in higher resolution is mind-blowing – even if it’s not really all that impressive by modern open world standards. The developer has also added native HDR support, and while some scenes look a little too bloomy for our tastes, you can almost feel the sandbox’s sun on the back of your neck.
There are three graphics options available: Fidelity has the best image quality, and appears to resolve a native 4K at a smooth 30 frames-per-second; Performance drops the resolution slightly – it’s still way above the PS4 version’s 1080p – but presents an equally smooth 60 frames-per-second. We tried triggering some explosions and the framerate holds well, although your mileage may vary under significant duress. The third option is Performance RT, which blends raytracing with 60 frames-per-second refresh rates, although we honestly couldn’t tell much difference between the two permutations of Performance, so you may want to wait for someone with a magnifying glass to explain exactly what’s going on here.
All three modes look great to our eye, although considering how slow and cumbersome GTA 5’s controls can feel at the best of times, the 60 frames-per-second options are literal game changers. Aiming is significantly less sluggish, while driving through Los Santos with the new GTA Online tuning upgrades – more on those later – feels positively WipEout-esque. The game does still show its age, however: there are textures which are clearly ancient that pop up from time to time, and the character models – particularly their faces – can’t cut it against contemporary releases like Horizon Forbidden West or even The Last of Us 2. Still, we’re talking about a title from 2013 here.
Loading times are significantly improved, too. One neat trick is that, once you’ve booted the game for the first time, it skips all the annoying logos and copyright information thereafter – a 30 second saving alone. From there, we clocked 11 seconds from the main menu into the single player campaign, and just six seconds when changing characters. Booting up GTA Online still takes a little time – around 44 seconds – but the flow of the multiplayer mode is faster overall, allowing you to load in and out of key locations like the Diamond & Casino Resort significantly faster than you could before.
Loading Time Tests | PS5 Version | PS4 Version (Backwards Compatibility) |
---|---|---|
Main Menu to Single Player | 11 seconds | 50 seconds |
Single Player Character Switching | 6 seconds | 17 seconds |
Main Menu to GTA Online Freeroam | 44 seconds | 95 seconds |
As previously alluded, the only real content change between GTA 5 on PS5 and PS4 is the addition of Hao’s Special Works in GTA Online, which allows you to add tuning upgrades to select vehicles to make them go faster. And these speed improvements are significant: pair it with the 60 frames-per-second performance and you can go fast. There is still quite a bit of pop-in – even when not travelling at these blistering new speeds – but we suppose not even the PS5’s lightning fast SSD can prevent that.
Rockstar’s done little to improve the flow of multiplayer, unfortunately. A new main menu screen allows you to jump directly to featured content, but Los Santos will still prove overwhelming to newcomers, and you’ll need our GTA Online guide if you’re playing for the first time this week. You’ll still have to wait exorbitant lengths of time for lobbies to populate, and some of the menus beggar belief really; years and years of bolting content onto a game not originally designed for it has made the entire experience a bit of a mess. While work has started on GTA 6, it could still be years away.
The single player campaign, despite being dated in some areas, is still laugh out loud funny at times, though – and it has some truly memorable moments in it. We played through a handful of our favourite missions, including the Life Invader sequence, and there’s still nothing else quite like this. The open world, too, is arguably unparalleled: not even the massively anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 has a world this alive and this believable. Ultimately, it’s a true testament to Rockstar’s original vision that a release from 2013 still has this much character.
So, is it worth the upgrade? Well, do you like GTA 5? Aside from the PC release, this is far-and-away the best version of Los Santos you can find on console, with fast loading times, sharp visuals, and a silky smooth framerate that helps eliminate some of the original’s gameplay issues – we didn’t even mention the DualSense support, which is brilliantly implemented, and even captures tiny details like rain. For the introductory offer price, it represents great value for money – even if you’ve paid full-price in the past. But if you’ve played these missions before, and you don’t have any interest in GTA Online, it’s going to prove a more difficult sell we suppose. The problem is, we don’t think you’ll be getting your GTA 6 fix for quite some time.
Will you be returning to GTA 5 and GTA Online on PS5 this week? If this is your first rodeo, check out our GTA Online guide, and let us know whether you’ll be booking a trip to Los Santos in the comments section below.

Been dipping in and out of this game every now and then since launch, and I guess because of the sizeable density of the map I'm STILL seeing things I hadn't noticed before. Mental.
Seems like a pretty good deal if you’re one of the 2 people who never bought it before (I’m the the other one and I’ll probably get it now).
I caved at that low upgrade price. Will be nice to play again, never did really get round to the PS4 version so it’ll be the PS3 version I’m comparing to.
I was considering picking up the single player campaign if they decided to separate the trophy lists for single player and online, since I have no interest in the online. But they didn't, so I won't be buying the game.
Don’t like GTA5. Got it on PS3 and PS4. Of course I am buying it again for £8.
Can’t believe they didn’t get 4k @ 60fps on a ps3 game
44 seconds on multiplayer? Why?
I’ve played through the story 5 times on 4 different consoles and when I get a PS5 I will definitely be playing through that version too. There’s just something special about it that keeps bringing me back.
It's absolutely not worth it if youve already bought the game on PS4
@Just2Milky the work that they had invested here are most likely limited and furthermore it’s not as easy as you might thought. It’s an old engine that might have bottlenecks and further limitations on newer hardware.
Last time I gave money to Rockstar was Red Dead Redemption on PS3 on a sale. I won't make the same mistake again.
I'm never going to buy or play GTAV.
And that's a promise. From me, to you.
@Voltan never played a gta before. Thinking thia might be a good time to start.
"The problem is, we don’t think you’ll be getting your GTA 6 fix for quite some time."
Partially because of morons buying the same game three or more times over and also because Rockstar are incapable of making a proper sequel and are milking the older games until they get found out
@Just2Milky It's not really a PS3 game, though. The PS4 version was a remaster with many, many improvements over the PS3 version.
@Lup But... Red Dead Redemption is amazing?
@get2sammyb To each their own I guess. Personally, it bored me to tears. The little side missions were cool, but the title of them spoiled the surprise most of the time.
The Spanish was terrible too.
Glad to see the load times have improved since the last time I played on PS3. Still... that's basically the only improvement.
I paid the £8:75...well £3 actually as I had a PayPal sale from one of my latest soundtracks ... Even still. It's worth the price for 60fps and a cleaner, sharper image...better lighting, textures and lod. But frankly, it's the 60fps all day long...and they even throw in a 60fps RT mode which looks good from the 20 minutes I just played ..
Just remember. The design of this game was 2013...no matter how good a PS5 or SX maybe you can't alter some elements...this is where GTA 6 will shine.
Hopefully Rockstar give RDR2 the same treatment...it's crying out for 60fps.
One other thing. The world still feels incredible...alive and vibrant and that's something age can't change...
@Nepp67 It's because it's not just loading game code, it's also connecting you to the servers and syncing your game with what everyone else is doing.
Another example of GTA Online being old and taped together really.
@Lup I think you're in the minority on this one to be honest! Most people love RDR!
@Mezzer it should've been a free update this is just greed from rockstar look at techland updating dying light 1 which is 7 years old for both PS4 pro & PS5 absolutely free
Its great price. Thank you Rockstar. Big upgrade from the slow PS3 version
Well, 10bucks seems a bit steep for what we get. Altho it does look like a maxed out pc version. Anyways, I expected overhauled mechanics. There are non. Game looks really good tho.
"The open world, too, is arguably unparalleled: not even the massively anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 has a world this alive and this believable. Ultimately, it’s a true testament to Rockstar’s original vision that a release from 2013 still has this much character."
And then people keep questioning why it's still selling...well yeah for cheap shark cards too but point still stands that R* are light years ahead. Till date, a lot of games still can't even get mirrors right, or a button to look behind.
@Just2Milky This. So much this. Ps3 game 30 fps. wtf????
@Would_you_kindly go tell that to Sony. They charge up to 30$ for an upgrade of a ps game you already own.
I'll probably end up getting this... Just 'cause, I guess. I recall beating GTAV ALLLL the way back on the PS3 and thinking how boring R*'s design had became. Even to this day, they're one of the top dogs of building virtual worlds, but — MAN — do they populate them with outdated, inferior, mediocre game design. Red Dead 2 only reinforced that notion. Good writing (although not always the best plots), fantastic world design, and acute attention to detail is what they have to offer. Not much else beyond that.
Though, to reiterate, I will undoubtedly end up getting this upgrade. Because that's just the kind of gamer I am...
It’s ten bucks and I haven’t played through the story mode since I owned it physically on PS4 back in 2015. I also beat the PS3 version. So it’ll be a third playthrough for me.
Does anyone know if they add an option to change the auto correct camera?
It was my main problem to really enjoy that game and the reason i haven't replayed it.
Yeah put a couple of hours into it and the 60fps really improves the game and the improved lighting and HDR really enhance the visuals as well. Also i'm happy Trophies auto pop as well if you use a PS4 save.
At 8.75 i say its really worth getting as it really does look better.
I bought the ps3 game and then the pc version which is the best by a country mile even on my old gaming rig which my wife now has for her art projects as her lap top is worn out..i bought the ps4 version cheap to play my mates online and i hate it..full of horrible cheating, abusive children and supposed adults (easily the most toxic and unfriendly of communitys online) so i gave my ps4 copy along with my ps4 to my wife when i got my ps5 and she loves it but dosnt play online as its just not for her..i wont be buying this even at the low asking price but for those who want it or have never played it enjoy..the story is a riot and i still feel sorry for that poor teddy bear..
I’ll try the free online, that’s it.
😕🥱Don't think I will bother. Surely they would have been better doing the upgrade for RD2..
I wasn’t honestly expecting a whole lot but it looks and plays great to me. That 60 FPS alone makes a world of a difference and, yeah, may have some of the best DualSense controller use by a third party game. Good stuff.
Was the 25p a pre order bonus as its £9 now... Im not having that!
It's so long since I played it (and hardly thoroughly- I mainlined the story in the campaign mode) that most of it has slipped from my memory, so another playthrough will feel pretty fresh. I'm not going to lose much sleep over a tenner, either - even if I don't get around to playing it for a long old time.
Played the PS4 version for 30 mins this morning before migrating my save.
Played the PS5 version for 10 minutes in fidelity mode. The difference is way bigger than I expected it to be. Everything looks so much cleaner and vibrant.
Played another 10 minutes in Performance RT mode and that looks great too.
For me, it is well worth the price.
I’ll be going through this for a 3rd time.
@Lup wasted money on RDR? Wow, just wow
@nessisonett You pretty much hit the nail on the head in a sentence, as opposed to the long article (no insult, it was quality). However, you know GTA by now, and if you like it, the upgrade price is an impulse buy. ‘Nuff said.
@Milktastrophe
Thanks for letting me know about this. I have no intention of playing online either for various reasons, so knowing there would also be no full trophy challenge “mode” to complete is the difference between me getting it and not too.
I’m trying to get interested in it and reading the article all I see sounds boring and outdated 🤷🏼♂️
got this for the xbox series x and ps5 , im a gta fan since the first one , they have new offline content all im interested in thanks guys.
In the UK you can get £9 at Cex for selling gta4, so will get this for 'free' even if it never ends up being played.
@Lup @get2sammyb I also didn’t love RDR2. That’s not to say it isn’t a good game, it is.
Though I had a week off and played it like a reviewer, swallowed it whole but came away with a lot of negatives.
Pros: amazing acting, story and performances. Stunning world and sound.
Cons: Too long, too real (realism vs fun), tired monotonous gameplay, sluggish controls.
Not sure what I’d score it really. Technically a 9 or a 10, enjoyment flip flopped between a 5 and a 9, replayability 2. Frustrating at times.
EDIT: my mistake, I see you were talking about RDR1 not 2. Loved 1. 2 was a mix of brilliance and disappointment
It’s worth £8.75 to me, but only because I didn’t really play the PS4 version
Enjoyed it back in the day but never got to the end of the single player. Never played online and probarbly wont. 1, i dont play online games and 2, i dont have PS+ 😂.
Just too many games to play to dedicate a chunk to GTA. I have the PS4 version if i ever have the urge to do so.
Never touched a GTA game before..but im tempted by this for that price and I dont know why... maybe the memes or maybe callmekevin and his mental laugh out loud live streams of GTA online
Worth the asking price again just for 60fps Trevor 😅
I can’t see it available for purchase on the PlayStation app. Is it only available vi the store on the console itself?
Nope , it still looks like a PS3 game & ironically even uglier because the games aged .
Wait , IT IS a ps3 game , with the largest 60fps patch i ever seen ; I uninstalled it .
It’s sad that GTA6 seems like it’s never coming even though it was “announced” 😥
and i just found out that it’s not cross-gen , SMH . they divided the player base AGAIN , the ps5 version won’t outsell the ps4 version
@PenguinL online has single player content
I'd have been incredibly surprised if it didn't hold 60fps, this is easily achieved on rather modest PC hardware and I'm curious what the RT is in this. I disagree on the open world comparison with Cyberpunk, that city is incredible, though probably much more so where I played it.
Still if you are one of the few who somehow haven't played this, it's a fun game with good writing and Rockstars strange blend of a great open world and oddly restrictive mission structure
started on PS3, played a bit on PS4, maybe I'll finally finish it on PS5!
It's 9,99 only, there is no doubt about getting it.
I was only able to play about 30 minutes before sleeping yesterday, but I'm pretty impressed, how good it looks, even if it's visible here and there, that this is an older game.
The 60fps Mode feels amazing, I'm getting more and more a feeling, that 30 fps hurts playing.
@nitram2k11 same here. I never finished it, what a shame.
Played on Xbox One around 33% completion and than I stopped.
@get2sammyb If i look at the screens the faces really old and it looks fine nothing more. Its still a remaster of a remaster some stuff still looks old and there is still popin? I rather see something new a GTA 6/Bully 2/Manhunt 3 or something new its not like they have no money or workers.
Played the first few missions in RT performance mode, it looks and plays great but cutscenes drop frames all over the place and there's weird camera judder in them too. Pretty rough.
@Milktastrophe - I'm assuming they didn't make a campaign only trophy list because there is no campaign only version of the game. You get the full package. I've no idea why that isn't mentioned in the article.
I can confirm that the ray-tracing is non existent in Performance RT mode, at least from the Series X version, so that will definitely need patched. I was initially going to always play in Performance RT mode but for now I may as well just play in just Performance mode.
Tried it, seems good. Really annoying that it won't import my PS4 save from the console though. I now have to re-download the PS4 version of GTA to UPLOAD my save so I can then go back into the PS5 version and download the save! Very annoying.
Only ever played GTA V on the PS3, so for £8.75/£9, why not.
Will be interesting for me to see the upgrades as I missed the PS4 version.
I played it on PS3 and that was enough. It was okay but I prefer almost every other 3D GTA to it. Just didn't really like any of the characters in 5. It's a shame this one got all the attention while the GTA trilogy re-release was such a mess. The PS2 games are still GTA at its peak for me.
So after the hype, the promised "extras" involve enhanced gfx & multiplayer content rather than invest in any additional single play content. Sadly reflects Rockstar's priorities these days!
As for the incentive with the "cheap upgrade", at the time of posting this it remains unavailable on the web browser PSN Store,so it's only accessible to current ps5 owners rather than future upgraders! 🤔
@Lup @get2sammyb I'm in the same boat on RDR - I think it was on PS Plus so I didn't pay for it but I played for a while and it had some cool stuff going for it but I couldn't stick with it. GTA3 also didn't do much for me so I stayed away from Rockstar open worlds since.
I'll give them another chance now - I mean, there has to be a reason why this game is one of the highest rated and highest selling ever.
Jumped into GTA Online when it went live and playing on Performance RT was honestly such an improvement. The framerate was insane in comparison to PS4 BC
@Mezzer you still paid £8.75 for it. It's weird how people use this bad logic of 'oh I had £5 from X so it only cost me £3'
Spoiler: that's not how money works.
its a lot better improvment than i was expecting, load times are so much better , rt mode looks great and 60 mode is silky smooth.
but just how many articles are we going to get on this game, will it beat cyberpunk were we saw half a dozen a day.
but i would of much rather seen both red deads get same treatment, even if i had too pay a little more.
Only played gta online a few times but there is alot of content if you barely touched it plus the start up money makes it more accessible. Worth a go especially for fee👌
Let me know when they update RDR2 thats what we really wanna see.
@LazyLombax You do know if you pre-ordered the uncharted PlayStation game series they gave out free movie tickets? Guess you didn't get the memo or play the upgraded game. Millions of people saw it for free lol. Seriously you didn't see that promotion pop up all over PlayStation? They gave a voucher code to get a free ticket.
For 10 bucks Ill give it to go and finally finish story .
@themightyant Your 'review' is kinda confusing tbh; how can a story be amazing and too long at the same time?
Surely it being too long would negatively impact how amazing it is, or conversely, how amazing it is would nullify the extreme length?
Don't get me wrong, if you didn't enjoy it, you didn't enjoy it, and that's fair enough, I'm not here to tell you what your opinion should be, just feels like two of your points almost completely contradict each other
I never did finish this game, much to my shame.
so for me, it was an easy £8.75 to spend, even if I don't know when I'll get time to play!
@ReddJelly I disagree, of course it can be both. The premise and conclusion were brilliant enough though that the story as a whole was amazing. But the middle dragged significantly, there was at least one camp/move/chapter too many imo and I was willing the story to get on with it. Poor pacing doesn't mean a poor story.
I enjoyed enough of the game but was heavily frustrated with other parts.
@themightyant I totally get you on this, the story on the whole was good, great in parts and slow in others... It probably could have been trimmed down.
Anyway, as @Titntin says above, easy £8.75 to spend despite already completing it on the PS3, PS4 and the XBOne.
Started it on Fidelity mode, switched to Performance and now can't go back. Perf mode is silky as you like and still looks good for what it is.
I'll drop in and out, no great urge to batter through it as my main game, but it's fun enough to jump in and out of. Online can take hike, won't be going back to that despite it being free, past experiences have soured me on that.
Doesn't seem like anything too crazy but well I've never actually played GTA V and although I did purchase the game for £10 on Black Friday 2019 on the PS4 Store I still have yet to play it so maybe I'll pick this up and actually get round to seeing what I missed out in 2013 when I was too busy not owning a PlayStation or Xbox and just being a fan of Nintendo handhelds.
People need to wise up, "OMG why should I buy this if I already have it on PS4. I had it for PS3, PS4 and now PS5. I played it the second it dropped and the load speeds are fast, graphics are sharper and everything is more detailed, for the introductory price it's worth it. Wouldn't pay full price tho. Buy it at the £8 and treat it like a DLC rather than a new game.
Last time I played this was in the ps3 and the ps4 was round the corner so I rushed through it. Time for a good replay me thinks.
Not going to bother with this. I'll just patiently wait for GTA 6 to come out whenever that may be.
I've owned GTAV on PS4 for years and still haven't started it. I reckon the PS5 update might be just the nudge I need to finally give it a go.
Does anyone have the US link to the upgrade/new version? Maybe I am going crazy but I have searched PSN past few days and have seen nothing.
I've somehow never played it, so for $10 why not?
@frankmcma - It's only listed on the PS5 console store. Not sure if that will change but for now you need to access a PS5 to buy it.
@SolarSailor It's a great game. I'm a little jealous of people playing for the first time.
I have never played it either but will finally give it a go for £8.75. Can anybody tell me how the Dr Dre stuff works in GTA online can I do it solo and do I need to play a certain amount of the single player to unlock it. Also do you have to claim GTA online on your PS5 as well as cant see it on the web store.
@Shigurui Ah ok thanks! I have a PS5 but often use the web store to purchase
@tanaka2687 @Voltan Then we are already 3!
If it's a good upgrade yes.word up son
I'd rather nail my testicles to a plank of wood for 24 hours then play GTA Online for even a moment.
However, the price of the actual game (not calling it the "singleplayer" game, as this is just the game, with the multiplayer thing being the abhorrence here) is actually not bad, initially.
I hope they don't sell a single copy after the price increases, though. They need to keep GTA5 on PS5 (the game's third generation at this point) at no more then £15, MAX. Any more than that and it's overpriced.
@RubyCarbuncle .... How long you got?
@get2sammyb
Yeah, I know. I know a few people that didn't like it but it is as you say. Everyone gives it a 9-10 out of 10. Not for me, but hey, that's what's cool about videogames. There are so many and normally everyone finds something.
At £8.75 and having never finished my PS3 single player era playthrough it was an easy sale.
This really does feel like a "console peasant" moment. People cheering for 60 fps and higher resolution, things PC gamers have had since pretty much the game launched. At least when GTA5 jumped from PS3 to PS4 they added a first person mode...
I've not played since the ps3 days.
This has come at the wrong time for me...I'm still playing the Dying light 2 and Cyberpunk. Great games.
@MattBoothDev As long as it takes I suppose. I have plenty to play now so I can wait.
@RubyCarbuncle Then you have extreme patience my friend! I'll see you in 2030 xD (hope not quite that long....lol)
@Don_Corleone Saw the memo, didn't get any tickets (got the upgrade though). Not for everyone in Europe ...
GTAV: got the og & PC version but not going to spend any more money on R* until maybe GTAVI (only if it's really good!)
I can't believe they're restricting the introductory price to the PS Store on PS5 only. I don't have a PS5 yet, but I would gladly pay the $10 for this. They're so committed to this that they won't even allow us to buy the PS5 version on the mobile app or browser based store. That's right, the new version of one of the best selling games of all time will not be available for purchase on the PlayStation app for 3 months just so fewer people can claim the promotional price. Absolutely ridiculous and greedy.
I’d have preferred a next-gen version of RDR2 (Hell, I may even have spent the time to get to 100% again) but despite still looking and playing like a last-last-gen game the chance to hang out with Franklin, Michael and Trevor is just too tempting at the introductory price. That way I can replay all my favourite missions, fall in love with Trevor again, meet all the memorable supporting characters and nab more trophies on the way towards the hugely entertaining finale. Having finished Forbidden West (Well, about 98%) and added that Platinum to my other 309 I’m currently jumping between AC Valhalla (Still fun but there’s way too much of it) and Fuser (Nearly at the Platinum) with Ghostwire and Tiny Tina forthcoming and literally hundreds of movies in my collection begging to be watched …
… which is nice!
No way this is worth it. Tack on the message it says about continuing to rehash old content to milk for more and more profit. This will become the reality, and new IPs or even new iterations of old IPS will become few and far between. More so than they already are because of this nonsense.
@get2sammyb Nice write-up. Never actually ever got around to playing this myself and its been one i've wanted since before it came out.
Fingers crossed that it will be on sale at this price again when i eventually get a PS5.
@God_of_War_ It's definitely been a great month!
@get2sammyb I'm a bit confused. I started downloading GTA online just to add it to my library and now the PS5 version of GTA 5 is free.
@AdamNovice Hmmm, weird. See if it works I guess?
Would rather they gave us an updated RDR and RDR2.
@ATaco the really annoying thing is they could easily get the game to run at 60fps on the PS4 pro & Xbox one X but never bothered to optimise it for those consoles
@xDD90x i don't know why Sony & rockstar/take-two aren't getting more backlash for this s***
@Pusher2021 Too bad. Great movie. Ehh I am also waiting for GTA 6. I played GTA 5 on PS3, PS4. I got bored. I beat the game twice. I said shouldn't this be a free upgrade at this point. $10 isn't much but they made billions alone from GTA 5 it's greed to ask for people to pay for a game that came out on PS3. They aren't hurting for money. I am thinking should I get it just to have it on ps5 because maybe a friend will want to play it. I understand you.
I've just fired up GTA Online and immediately noticed how better it looked, especially at night with the city lit up. Went to my nightclub and the lights and strobes are great but the rumbling pad in time with the beats feels fantastic.
I can't find the PS5 version for this price on the US site. When does this go live?
Tbf, if you have an option to get the $10 upgrade, I can understand the customer's pov for taking it if they really (really) like the game (or never played it before) but for me personal, it has to stop somewhere. And I'm NGL, I expect a unparralled/top notch GTA (technical advanced/awesome story/ ... like a new standard for open world games).
I still remember how groundbreaking GTA3 was I hope they can deliver!
@LazyLombax Hey, Dog is actually a pretty good movie! Lol
I'll wait for the PS6 version I think
@Would_you_kindly
This is what I’m asking myself as I own the PS4 Digital version but never played the campaign on it, only multiplayer. Completed the campaign on a Xbox 360 back in 2013 and have always felt like playing through it again. I know it’s only £8 but is it still worth it?
Never gave Rockstar a dollar for GTAnything. Tried it when it was free on PS+ briefly, and couldn't believe how badly cars handled - driving is supposed to be a big deal in this game, right? Do the controls get better after the opening where you repossess some cars?
Might give it a try on the PS5 for $10, given all the praise that's been heaped upon it. Then again, maybe if I wait until some time after it goes back to full price, it will show up free on Plus to announce GTA6.
@oYOUSERo i bought it on the Xbox 360 & then again on PS4 this is absolutely not worth any extra money it's just greed 60fps would be much appreciated but it's something that they could've given us years ago when the PS4 pro came out they just didn't want to because they knew they couldn't get away with charging for that
You think a games journalist would know the difference between refresh rate and frame rate, the game doesn't "hold a 60 fps refresh rate", the refresh rate is locked at 60hz as this can't change unless VRR is being used and ps5 doesn't support it, the game would alter the frame rate when it's got problems keeping it at 60. Not sure why someone that is writing for this site wouldn't know that...
I don't understand why even a games media outlet doesn't know the difference between refresh rate and frame rate?
This re-release makes me sick, everyone should boycott it on principal alone. Make a new game you lazy company, you have the resources to pump out a new game every 3 years but instead you take the easy way out and just do this, it's lazy and shows they have no artistic integrity at all. 10 years! Wtf
@Would_you_kindly how is it not worth it for £8? Seriously they could've charged far more and people would've still bought it. £8 for 4K, 60fps and Raytracing options. Absolutely worth it regardless of anyone's taste the value for money is insane. Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance is an older game costing £24.99 currently. Compare that to what GTAV is costing for the fairly substantial upgrade.
@Recover20 it's not a substantial upgrade at all & it should've been free because they're still making a huge amount of money from GTA online.
Played this a little bit last night.
The fidelity mode looks nice, very soft shadows, but 30FPS for a PS3 game running on the PS5 shouldn't be acceptable.
30FPS should be avoided at all times, but sometimes it works ok (Uncharted, Horizon, most recently).
But not this game. This game runs like total crap at 30FPS. Ridiculously high latency and Input lag.
Rockstar lazily farted this game out and didn't really even bother to update the textures.
But that said it was appropriately priced, for now. Any more than £15 for a 9 year old game that still runs at 30FPS is taking the piss, so I can recommend this until June.
£9 for a game this size is a bargain whichever way you look at it and regardless of if you have already played it, not sure why people use these comment sections just to moan and say "I would rather..."
