Push Square deputy editor and resident weeb Robert Ramsey is on holiday this week, so please forgive this scribe as he clumsily tries his best to cover the new Soul Hackers 2 trailer. Hot on the heels of the first trailer, our task is made even tougher by both the voiceover and YouTube description using Japanese. So, what's going on here? The only concrete things we can say are the game's out for PlayStation 5 and PS4 on 26th August 2022 and it's apparently a sequel to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers from way back in the 1990s.
Besides that, it looks like there's a scientist that gets attacked by a teleporting... enemy? Then he rips something out of his body and eats it, which we assume makes him more powerful. Cue the music and some characters are introduced — many equipped with swords and others with guns — before some gameplay and menus are shown off. Glimpses of combat are up next, then there's a rabbit.
The reception to this trailer seems positive. A YouTube comment from Mina Zeichen says: "Seeing Hare of Inaba and Kudlak in glorious 3D fills me with glee! How many other classic Devil Summoner designs will make a return? Can't wait to get my hands on this! Best birthday gift ever! 😄" Do you agree with this take? This scribe has no idea, but maybe you do. Let us know in the comments below.

I never played the original but I feel like this is such a random choice of a game to get a sequel that I can't help but at least be super intrigued. Makes me think Atlus has a really good premise for a game since they picked this game in particular to make a sequel to.
Might need to grab the original on 3DS before Nintendo shuts the store down.
I didn't play the original but this looks amazing. Question is is it a direct sequel story wise? Can I play this without playing the 1st
My next anticipated game, unless gow releases before.
Original was amazing and I’m excited for it getting a sequel…but I feel like the 90’s cyberpunk tone and style of the original is not here in the sequel which is a shame.
@UltimateOtaku91 the bits of story we've seen in the trailers don't appear to be connected to the first game. I did see some familiar technology, but I think it's safe to assume that this is a stand-alone story.
Atlus know how to get you excited with trailers for their games. Story is looking like it will have a lot going on, just hope it goes somewhere compared to SMT V which came out in November barely having one.
Yes!!! another trailer!
this is my most anticipated game this year!
Glad that I don't have to play the first one to know this story. Atlus knew that they needed a new starting point. Kinda wish they could've just called it Soul Hackers.
Anyway, yay Atlus and yay SMT spin offs. They sure know how to make turn based combat look and feel exciting.
Less interested in it the more I see of it. Human party members versus demons, and totally lacking the atmospheric setting of the original Soul Hackers. The level design, from the little we've seen of it, also seems incredibly dated for a home console game in 2022. Was kinda hoping they'd keep going big after SMT V.
I'm sure it'll be decent. Atlus is an amazing JRPG developer, but... I'm definitely a little disappointed.
Amazing!... pretty high on my list.
The resolution on SMTV on Switch would get so awful that cables became dashes on my 4KTV. You also had that 2fps nonsense for enemies in the back of the field (like Arceus)
Hopefully I will be able to enjoy some crisp Atlus art this time around.
This game looks like a good middle-ground between Persona and SMT, day 1 for me I'm so hyped. Still waiting for SMT 5 to come to other platforms😭😭😭
@Royalblues atlus already dropped the smt branding since the first soul hacker called devil summoner soul hackers
@UltimateOtaku91 atlus west said the sequel is its own independent story
Definitely getting interested after this trailer, hopefully it will be a good one.
I'm hyped if you couldn't already tell.
Soul Hackers 1 is such an underrated game so I'm glad its getting a sequel.
Glad to see this game being promoted still!
