Techland’s support for Dying Light – the original, not the recently released Dying Light 2: Stay Human – will never cease. The Polish developer has released a brand new update for the first game today, which improves performance on the PlayStation 5 and PS4. We were expecting a native new-gen port based on the team’s previous comments, but this is a patch instead.
There are three options on the PS5: Performance achieves 60 frames-per-second in 1080p; Balanced targets 60fps in 1440p; Quality achieves 30fps in 2160p. There’s also improved draw distance, while PS4 Pro’s 30fps cap has been stabilised. So some pretty decent improvements here, particularly if you’re still playing in backwards compatibility courtesy of PS5 Game Boost.

That's a shame. If this had been a seperate cross buy title, I would have picked it up since it's on sale for £14.39 right now.
Finally! Been waiting to play this since the announcement last year. I was really hoping this would be out before Dying Light 2, but this is close enough. By the time I’m done with DL1, DL2 could be in a much cleaner state
And my backlog just gets bigger and bigger lol.. for those who played both dying light , which one you suggest I play and invest 80+ hours into it? I say 80+ hours because my ocd says I must play the game to 100% trophy completion lol
Wanted to get the first game to give Dying Light a try but it isn't on the PS Store here in Germany
Started playing Dying Light 2 at the weekend and wow. If any game is in need of a next gen patch it’s that one. Feels like a game from the PS3 era with those character models and dialogue. The first Dying Light game was so good. What the hell happened with the second???
Thank god for GT7.
If it was a native upgrade id have replayed it before I get around to the sequel. Then again I dont need more backlog lol
Nice to see improvements for the PS4 pro as well.
But no native Ps5 Code as it seems?
@Brasilkilla The first game definitely. DL 2 is a step back in my book; got bored and stopped after about 12 hours.
Indie dev patches their 7 year old game with enhancements for new-gen consoles. Take-Two/Rockstar won't do the same for their 3.5 year old, 43+ million copies sold *game.
Kudos to Techland. I'll definitely be picking this one up once I get a PS5.
*Edit: Referring to Red Dead 2
I will get it eventually (DL2 was awesome!) but I’ll hold my horses this time until they disclose the Series X upgrade details.
Given that they did in fact utilize VRR on DL2, I have a feeling they might do it here, too, like 1080p with 60 fps+ or something. Might as well make use of my OLED’s functionality.
Appreciate they were working on the sequel, but this is too late now. Would have been ideal over Christmas in advance of the second game coming out. Good news though.
@Gloamin I was referring to Red Dead Redemption 2. That game already looks incredible on PS4 Pro. All it could use is a boost to 60fps on PS5. Maybe native 4k instead of checkerboard, but even that isn't really necessary.
@Gloamin This is a free patch from a smaller developer i agree you cant compare them. And GTA5 has had two payed upgrades already.
Nice. Picked up from the Turkish store a few weeks ago for under 4 quid. Can't wait to add this update to my library and not play it.
Cool that they've bothered with improving it on PS4 I've still got a ps4 pro so appreciate that they've not forgotten about us
@Brasilkilla
Yeah I'm giving up on trophies... A game has to be reaally good and platinum should be doable before I attempt a plat nowadays.
Even debating on playing online games anymore as that gets in the way of my backlog as well.
Meanwhile games are releasing like crazy and what the hell can you even do anymore lol
Sometimes it pays to be way behind on some games. I just bought this a month or two ago during one of the many PSN sales for $12, and now it got an upgrade. It'll probably still be a while before I get to play this with me still having a lot of Horizon Forbidden West to play and then Cyberpunk 2077 afterwards, but it's nice to know there's an even better version of it now for whenever I do get to it.
@Shstrick I’ve had the same exact gameplan! I was hoping it would have come out prior to DL2 but again, this is close enough and it gives time to iron out the experience in DL2.
I've started attacking my backlog before buying new games. I just finished HZD, and now I'm playing Dying Light, making this news perfect!
@BoldAndBrash Games are like TV now, you have to be discerning with your choices, there simply isn't enough time to play all the quality games out there. I'm trying my best but I've had to stop playing online and sports games in an effort to work through my backlog. It'll probably never get cleared entirely but hey.
@get2sammyb Does this PS5 patch also update all of the story DLC?
Or is only the base game affected.
It's in my baaaaaaaaaaack looooooooog
Waiting for cross-gen co-op on Dying Light 2…
