It's been said many times, but the last month or so has been pretty extraordinary for new game releases. What are likely to be award magnets come the end of the year have all launched within a short window in the first quarter — it's an amazing start to 2022. What's more, they all appear to be selling very well indeed — in the UK, at least. Case in point: Gran Turismo 7 has taken the boxed charts in style, claiming first place.
It knocks Elden Ring off its perch and into second, where the FromSoftware epic continues to sell best on PlayStation platforms. A share of 55 per cent is for the PS5 version, while the PS4 SKU takes a further 24 per cent.
This all means that Horizon Forbidden West has been pushed down to fourth position. What's interesting here is that the PS5/PS4 split is almost equal; the current-gen version accounts for 53 per cent versus 47 per cent on PS4.
Elsewhere, FIFA 22 remains in fifth place, and Dying Light 2 moves down from seventh to ninth. Below is the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 5th March 2022
- Gran Turismo 7
- Elden Ring
- Pokémon Legends Arceus
- Horizon Forbidden West
- FIFA 22
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Triangle Strategy
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Dying Light 2
- Minecraft (Switch)

Well deserved I think. I suspect that their strategy of requiring always online and having it be a service game (boo), also likely meant a high proportion of gamers would’ve gone digital too, which makes these physical sales all the more impressive.
GT7 is phenomenal. Best in its 25 year service. I had the first game on its launch and now the 7th...A best in class racing experience. Even for people like me who is not into Motorsport, racing etc. The game is just so good.
@lolwhatno From what I've seen elsewhere - the bad news is that if you wanted to buy cars just with the credits you buy on the PS Strore, it would cost you a lot.
The good news is that you'll probably be fine just playing the game without any of that.
Gt7 about to easily sell over 20 million copies lifetime.
I was thinking about buying it for my step-dad because he loves Gran Turismo games. But I I'm hearing conflicted comments about it needing a constant online connection.
He just wants single player and doesn't have PSPlus so I don't know if I should get it for him. Plus he hates MTX's.
His internet is pretty crappy so he'd prefer to play offline and I don't know how much of the game is behind MTX's.
Well deserved, absolutely brilliant game, it is a proper time muncher though! I seem to lose more time to this game than I do any others - just one more race or one more Menu Book....
Nice too see Nintendo not dominating for once. GT 7 is amazing little surprised that elden hadn't dropped more
Glad to see it make No.1. Absolutely blown away by how stunning the game looks on PS5 and also brings back the classic GT gameplay with some tweaks to the handling model over GT Sport
This past few weeks have been STACKED.
@lolwhatno The game is an e-sports game. They have their own league. It’s going to be supported for at least 5 years. I could see GT7 still be relevant 10 years from now.
I really enjoyed GT Sport, but there’s just been so many great games out. Everything about GT7 just looks like the ultimate fan service game.
This comment may rev some people's engine but without doubt the better game
55% on ps5
24% on ps4
21% on where? ps3?
pretty sure it sold 76% on ps5 based on psu site
I bet those Elden Ring bosses have nothing on some of those licence test golds.
@arra1213 Those figures were referring to Elden Ring's sales, mate. 👍
@arra1213 he was talking about elden ring with those figures
@Mezzer I think I'm with you there. Fantastic game. And so addictive!
It really has that 'one more go' appeal.
Pretty impressive. I can’t remember the last time that two PlayStation exclusives were in the top 5 at the same time.
@UltimateOtaku91 @TheDarkSide i just looked at elden ring figures here
it said
63% on ps5
17% on ps4
@lolwhatno You can arguably add Resident Evil 7 to that list as well!
Glad to see GT7 selling well,🥳 it more than deserves it. 🤩
I have put in a fair chunk of time and never felt I needed to spend real money on any extra credits.
I currently have earned half a million in credit and that’s even after buying many cars and parts.
The game constantly throws money and free cars at you. Plus you get a constant flow of roulette tickets which give you a chance of winning even more credit, spare parts and cars.
I’m really enjoying my time with it and would highly recommend. 😉👍
Happy days ☺️
Santa Monica's crossover art for GT7 has Kratos on a bobsled. Wondering if that's another form of transport in GoWR, aside the boat.
Out of interest where did Babylon’s Fall chart?
@arra1213 yeah so the other 20% were on xbox and pc
@Mostik I'm exactly the same, I always just do one more race, one more menu and lose hours.
Great game, deserves the #1 spot
Congratulations to Polyphony once again. Nice to see Horizon still going strong dispite the internet declaring it buried
Echo the majority above. Such an amazing game. I love the slow burn of unlocking cars. Much more appreciation and wise buying when considering what car to go for next. None of this being chucked a Ferrari or other high performance vehicle 2 race in nonsense like Forza. Such a great racing expierience. 10/10 for me. Only gripe for me is i wish they dropped the always starting in last place on rolling starts and gone with a quick hot lap qualifying. Other than that i cant grumble.
According to gamesindustry, first week sales in the UK including download sales, the sales split for Elden Ring was:
32% PlayStation 5
30% PC
29% Xbox consoles
9% PS4
With 50% downloadload on PS compared to 85% download on xbox.
Interesting numbers
@Danloaded Horizon will stay strong. Elden ring is phenomenal, but people are going to want something else that's really good after it.
@GADG3Tx87 nothing in the game is walled behind MTX. You can get everything with in-game credits and the prices are pretty fair. The only prices that aren't fair are the actual MTX prices lmao, but if you aren't interested in them it doesn't matter i guess.
With regards to the always online thing, it doesn't require PS+ for anything unless you want to race with other people online.
Awesome result for Gran Turismo 7!
@Danloaded
Horizon is a pretty good game. Don't understand if anyone hated it or comparing it with another similar game. 🤷♂️
@Kidfunkadelic83
Miss the revving of the engine before the countdown, rolling starts are crap
It’s precisely the sort of game that’ll bring PS5’s release to the attention of those who like to “keep it real”. I hope they’re well stocked by now….
@Steve30000 im really enjoying Horizon but when i read comments about it they usually say 'why did it release so close to Elden Ring, its been buried again'. It wasn't buried the first time. Nintendo had Breath of the Wild, Sony had Horizon. We can all have nice things lol
@Kidfunkadelic83 bang on, my only change would be a qualifying lap rather than rolling starts in last.
GT7 deserves all the accolades.
Gyro steering is a complete game changer and I now see why people will spend £500 + for a good wheel. There's no comparison, playing this with proper steering has shown me everything I've missed in previous GT games and previous driving games.
I will never be able to play another driving game which doesn't have this input, I could never go back.
Forza Motorsport is dead to me as Xbox does not have gyro - I could never play with a joystick again.
@Dudditz09 yeah i feel rolling starts are a little old hat now days. Its a good feeling to nail the revs and launch off the line. I can understand on certain tracks like the high speed ring or a particular race but the majority should be started from a standstill. Id also have loved an option to make the races longer so the 2 laps became 4s and the 3 laps became 6's etc.
Add me up man. Tags in my bio👍
Best GT since GT4 by far so i'm glad its doing well. My only issues are the always online bull and the MTX sh*t, apart from that its near flawless
It deserves to be up there for weeks. It is the best GT ever made!
Ive spent over a million on cars and tuning, i've got 800k in the bank, not a real world penny spent and it's only 4 days old. The mtx noise really needs to pipe down!
I prefer the cartoonish racing games such as Race with Ryan or Blaze & The Monster Machines: Axle City Racers than ultra realistic racing games like Gran Turismo or Forza.
I hope the value of Horizon forbidden west is not lost. My heart really burns for developers.
Be interesting to see how long it retains this spot especially after the news about potential groundwork for NFTs being laid after the game was already reviewed.
Can't wait to pick this up a little down the line
@arra1213 i think those percentages are referring to Elden Ring's sales
I hope I'm wrong here and just looking into something that isn't even there because I really want to play this game.
"it's an amazing start to 2022"
Yep, it is just fantastic.
It is also amazing we only at 1 year of the PS5 launch and I already have so much to play at this quality on it.
UK is really big with FIFA and Racing simulators while US is big on Madden and Shooters . That comparison makes the UK kinda classy , lol .
A shame that we've all just accepted the $10 price hike but I guess we're all just used to constantly paying more for things nowadays. I haven't bought GT7 yet and will pick it up when a sale brings it down to "normal" price.
That is AMAZING that GT7 did that Well done PD
My decals (stickers) from GT Sport havent transferred. Anyone who knows what to do?????
@Danloaded facts. don't listen to them. those are people who have one idea that if any game releases close to elden ring it's gone.
@Ranger_River trust me it's not. miles morales started off lower than another game in one place and now it's the 3rd best selling playstation exclusive ever.
@middyone good. I hope so
