Techland has announced Dying Light 2 sold five million copies in its first month of availability across all platforms. The game came out on 4th February 2022, so it's now been out for close to three months. As a result, overall sales are more than likely much higher now. The publisher also revealed the original Dying Light game has surpassed 20 million units sold. First released for PlayStation 4, it recently got a PS5 patch.
To celebrate, Techland will share new Dying Light 2 content next week that includes "some highly requested features" from the community. For example, we already know New Game+ is on its way at the end of this month. Speaking in a press release, CEO Pawel Marchewka said: "The success of the Dying Light franchise is a great example of the unforgettable experiences we create for our players." The sequel was a fairly good follow-up to the 2015 original, as detailed in our Dying Light 2 PS5 review.
"Dying Light 2 is a super solid follow-up to the 2015 original, building upon its fantastic gameplay loop with new traversal options for even more parkour fun. It's extremely disappointing, however, that the narrative and open world promises Techland made in the lead up to launch haven't been realised. Your choices don't have nearly as much impact as we would like, and the map is much more rigid than pre-release footage would have you believe. Still, Dying Light 2 feels awesome and empowering to play, and that can go a long way," we concluded.

Hoping for some fun new side missions; I actually think I prefer the first games side missions. This one has way to many parkour and combat specific sides and not enough story driven ones for my liking.
Wow, Its quite amazing just how big games sales have become. Even 10 years ago very few people would have thought anything but the very top franchise could ever achieve these kinds of volumes. Yes, games cost more to make these days but the player base is so much bigger. Already the largest media industry, gaming seems to still have the legs to grow further.
Just so you guys know, DL1 did not release on the PS3. It was originally going to, but they canceled that version, similar to what happened with Mortal Kombat X.
@sajoey I completely forgot that happened haha, thank you, edited 👍
Anyone know if they’ve updated it to be cross gen compatible yet?
Really liked the first game but though DL2 was awful. Great numbers for them though.
The original was a fantastic game that along with its expansion easily made it one of my all time favourites.
Bought Dying Light 2 on Day One but unfortunately I've only played a few hours as I got pulled into Horizon Forbidden West and am still deep into that game. What I played of Dying Light 2 has impressed me though and I'm really glad it did well, hopefully I'll get a chance to get back into it soon.
I still need to finish it, got it day 1 and was loving it but then Horizon 2 released and then Elden Ring happened and then GT7 and then Lego Star Wars. Once this update hits i shell try and get myself back on it as i was really enjoying it.
I enjoyed the first game so I purchased it day one. I gave the sequel 15 hours that felt like 50, but gave up on it and sold it on. I'll be back when it's a tenner.
I bought this at launch but finally might get around to playing it with everything else that has come out
I’ve always been interested in this game. Is it necessary to play the first game to play the second or is it a standalone game???
It's not a game I think I'd be too into but those are some impressive numbers. Especially with all the competition February had. Good for them!
Does that mean HFW sold more since I believe it was above it in the sales charts?
5 million is great. A third one is probably being made.
Cross-gen co-op please
Still haven’t bothered, waiting for a sale.
@CWill97 no not really, its a new character and story. I like the second game but the first is probably better and with all the extra content it has hundreds of hours of content and fun.
