EA Sports has just announced F1 22, the latest officially licensed Formula One racer from Codemasters. Launching on 1st July, 2022, this new title will reflect the big changes to the motorsport for this season, touted as the "biggest shake-up for over a decade." You can check out the teaser trailer above.
The big headline change for F1 this season is the newly designed car which, in a nutshell, has been reworked in order to make races more exciting and more competitive. These vehicles will naturally be represented in-game along with all the drivers and teams you'd expect. According to the press release, there's plenty more for fans to get excited about: the introduction of the Miami grand prix, Sprint races, and something called F1 Life.
This new mode aims to capture the lavish lifestyle of the motorsport's most successful drivers. It acts as "a customisable hub to show off their collection of supercars, clothing, and accessories" which you can earn through gameplay or via the Podium Pass and in-game store. To what end you'll acquire all these goodies, we're not sure yet.
The physics model has been adjusted to account for the new cars, and there are new options during set-up for races to make the game more accessible. Immersive and Broadcast are new options that either let you take part in things like formation laps, safety car periods, and pit stops, or can take care of those aspects for you, depending on how intense you want the experience.
One interesting note is that, on PC, the game will support various virtual reality headsets, but there's no mention of PlayStation VR at all. We imagine the hold PSVR is a little outdated for this game now, but we can't help but wonder if the PS5 version will be playable on PSVR 2 in the future.
Anyway, there you have it — your yearly F1 title. Will you be putting your foot down this July? Speed into the comments section below.

Such an EA move to make us aware of a launch video 24 hours before it’s put on YouTube which offers zero gameplay and zero features.
I want some MyTeam/career mode changes including interviews but they haven’t been announced yet.
Won’t be upgrading from F1 2020 which plays like a dream 👍🏻
You can buy super cars, clothing and accessories? Gotta love ea. milk it for all its worth!
I wonder if it will include the porpoising? 😉
They should make it where you get to the last race at the end of the season and they just let the dude with fresh tires sprint it out with you at the end.
@get2sammyb sill salty about that?
@get2sammyb Like that would ever happen in real life 😂
no mention of formula 2 or formula 3. hope the new features aren't at the expense of old features. Cautiously optimistic but, if the worst happens, at least F1 Manager is looking incredible.
@get2sammyb I highly approve of this comment!
I rather hope this does well for EA - not because of EA, they can burn in hell for what they are (I worked for them and know they're evil first hand) - but because I fear for codemasters now that EA have bought them.
That would normally be the kiss of death for an dev house, but F1 has made big waves in the states because of the netflix F1 drama, and Codie's can make a compelling game, so maybe this will be a big success and codies have a bright future.. I certainly hope so..
I wish Sony still had the F1 license. I loved the first F1 on PSX and was at the launch party in Psygnosis Liverpool for that title...happy times!
I will wait and see if it actually looks like a next gen game first.
“Biggest shake up of the decade”
EA - not to our game re-skin the same game from last year
The new F1 Life options sound painful.
YES!... VR finally! Happy racer 🏁😀
If I can get VR at home and SteamDeck on the GO via Steam. I will need to jump to PC on this one.
I already have GT7 on PS5 anyway.
Praying Sony announce this for PSVR2 as well. Even if the patch does come later.
We need this to happen. Been begging for it for the past two years. Haha.
Graphics engine is long in the tooth😖 it's [been] time for an upgrade... And they overdo it on the atmospheric lighting in night races — way too much "fog" and light pollution. I'd prefer more of a realistic look, like GT7 has...
No mention of a new 'Braking Point', which I am good with. The F1 Life mode sounds more interesting.
@eagletrippin "Graphics engine is long in the tooth😖 it's [been] time for an upgrade"
Exactly this.
@Titntin My lad was playing on Studio Liverpool's F1 Championship Edition on the PS3 earlier - still looks great today and you also don't have to hear the sound of asthmatic leaf blowers, just the iconic howling!
