The next big update for Elden Ring is available to download now for PlayStation 5 and PS4, weighing in at 1.025GB. It contains a few new elements for the game, makes some sweeping balance changes, and then cleans up a long list of bugs. For example, the camera auto-rotate function can now be toggled on or off, and some new "event phases" have been added for Patches the NPC.
Balance changes include increased damage for the Grafted Blade Greatsword and the Devourer's Scepter, lowered the speed of Madness buildup recovery, and increased the attack speeds of Colossal Swords. Recovery times have been lowered to counteract the buff, however. Also, at lower levels, the FP and Stamina growth rates have increased. To enable this change, you must level up, activate Godrick's Great Rune, or re-equip any items with bonuses for Strength, Dexterity, Vigor, Endurance, Intelligence, Faith or Arcane.

Sounds like they're making it easier, so I guess beating it now doesn't even count anymore
It’s not even the same game anymore.
I'm confused though, is this From Software's version of a "live service" game? But instead of paid battle passes and daily tasks, they just hold back on a few NPC questlines and drip feed them to us after launch?
I wonder how the fans who create all the meta and guides feel about this? It sounds like sizeable changes that will significantly impact places like fextralife
Although IDK if this has always been a thing, I was two years late to the rest of the Souls games, and this is the first one I've played day 1
But did they fix the huge pacing and balance issues in the endgame?
Just found the much talked about Moonveil sword but I heard it got nerfed or something, don't really care, I'm fine with my BloodFang sword using Bloodhound Finesse. Not using guides or anything, kills the purpose of discovery and element of surprise for me.
@AndyKazama same here - I only played my first Souls game last year (started with DS2), and as of this week I have played at least some of all of the SoulsBorneSekiroRing games (bought Sekiro and Demon's Souls after finishing Elden Ring, making my way through Sekiro at the moment, wasn't quite prepared for how much of a Souls game it isn't, haha. At some point I'll finish DS3 too..)
From what I gather pretty much all of them have been subject to various nerfs/balances after launch (apparently lightning for one thing was very OP in DS2 at launch)
It's certainly a lot different playing the game from Day 1 rather than buying in long after it's settled down. I might have to revisit the lands between, if for no other reason than to find out what they've added to Patches' quest line
I wish they would patch the bugged trophies.
@TeapotBuddha I see. Tossed my Moonveil into the chest and forgot about it as I don't have a high INT. I might consider levelling up for it.
its so bizarre the way they just keep dumping these npc changes into the game without any explanation whatsoever. was it broken since launch and they are too affraid to admit it? was it always the plan to add them and they just launched the game unfinished if so how many more are to come? is this now a live service?
also still no improvement on performance. i guess from was always terible at comunication but its still frustrating...
Ah, finally, a redemption for the ultra greatswords (Colossal as they're called now), my battles shall be legendary.
Are they going to fix the PS5 framerate issues?
@Throb No. Crappy optimization is in From Software’s DNA. /s
Did they fix that bug where the final boss can act stupid if you do something just right?
And yet another example of why it's best to wait a while before purchasing any game , on any platform, at the moment.
Well unless you really want to pay good money to become a beta tester for the software company concerned.
If so , I have a few emails from Nigerian Princes that need money processed that I could forward to you !
Thanks for reminding me, was wanting to go try and find Patches, read he pushes you off of a cliff.😂 May be too late though, I'm already most of the way thru Volcano manor, but I'll go see if he's still hiding in the bushes somewhere by all of those iron maidens. But first, the 1GB download.
@TeapotBuddha @TheArt I just got the moonveil sword as well but it's almost impossible for me to change my weapon - ugichanta katana - b/c I have it at +16 w/ 183 damage and blood loss at 74 means I can just barely manage to kill things before they kill me. I started as a confessor but I put all me leveling into intelligence b/c I mostly use comet shard, Loretta's bow and rock sling. I do have a +7 long sword w/ holy on it I use for skeletons but that's about it.
My kid has been playing w/ the blood hound fang since very early on but it's too heavy on me and I find it a little too slow after using the katana. I may need to change now though, just got in the capital and all the shield guys are just laughing at me. And I can't scratch the iron maidens.
This is my first From Software game so I went in not knowing anything about it, more of a JRPG guy.
@Throb 100% but fromsoftware needs 3 times the time the average developer needs to optimize the game since they are unbelievably incompetent on the technical side.
@Bazooka Got the plat yesterday, nothing was bugged for me. What trophie(s) are you struggling with?
Swarm of Flies was awesome but I can see why it had to be nerfed a little. Playing arcane build so rivers of blood and another katana (long one whose name escapes me) are my two dual wield weapons. Combined with swarm of flies, talisman where blood increases attack power combined with Milificent’s prostheses and the game is a lot easier (still die in late game areas but the bosses are easier especially if I use the mimic).
It's a shame I just finished the game (with all Achievements) a few days ago (118 hours total).
I was a Faith build that used Winged Scythe through the majority of the game until I got access to the Blasphemous Blade.
I guess I COULD go and do a NG+ but with how intertwined the NPC questlines can be, I don't know if it's worth searching for Patches new questline additions.
Plus, I am sucked into Nioh Remastered now (I got the collection for Christmas as I never played the original releases of Nioh and Nioh 2).
Did they fix the Radagon's glitch?
@Bazooka What trophies are you referring to? I got the Plat and haven’t had any issues. You’re the only person I’ve seen complain about this so I’m curious as to your experience.
What are the new elements? Are they saying like a element like fire and ice or is it a gameplay mechanic
@XOF Seriously about time and I don't even use them
@Nerdfather1 Commander Niall, Shardbearer Rykard, Hoarah Loux and Godskin Noble all defeated and didn't pop. I'm not complaining, and others online have had the same issues. It's only a trophy at the end of the day, but annoying none the less.
@rjejr It's hard to switch weapons when you're used to one. I found some Meteorite sword that also staggers a lot and I like it. Man, the game is so deep with so many options makes for a lot of replayability.
Future fromsoft games will have difficulty definitely. They gained so many new players and they will have to cater to them as well. The No.1 most downloaded mod on pc is easy difficulty which imo also shows that pc is taking many of the casuals away from consoles.
@TeapotBuddha I basically started w/ sorceries, I don't have the quick fingers for melee combat. I've never been a blocking, parrying and dodging gamer.
@TheArt I found a blue crystal sword today after I finally cheated and looked up where to find Nepheli. It looks nice, may give it a go. FromSoftware went all out on the design, many of my equipment slots are full of gear and yet they all look just different enough I can tell when I have a double. I almost never change gear either, Confessor type stuck w/ me.
Grafted Blade Greatsword is really interesting now.
I noticed a big improvement before I even saw what was in the patch as I was trying it vs a boss . 👍🏻
@Jaberwocky I’d usually agree, but in this case, the balance changes actually encourage you to try new builds, which can be pretty fun. For instance my first play through was as a STR/FTH build, and it was great, but now that they’ve buffed some of the lesser used incantations, I may stick with my stats but change my loadout and incantations. Genuinely will feel completely different. Also you get to try some of the broken combos before they get nerfed, which can be hilarious.
@TheArt The Moonveil is still very viable once you put your points into dex and int. im using that with the Meteorite Staff and am rinsing most enemies..
