PlayStation Productions is in full swing following the success of the Uncharted movie, with work on The Last of Us' HBO series well underway. However, it doesn't just stop with these two franchises — the next Sony game being adapted for the screen is Ghost of Tsushima. Announced last year, it appears the team is slowly staffing up to get pre-production off the ground.
As reported by Deadline, the movie based on Sucker Punch's wildly successful samurai action title now has a screenwriter attached. Takashi Doscher is now signed on to pen the screenplay for the project. His previous writer credits include Only and Still, both of which he also directed.
We also know that Chad Stahelski is on board to direct Ghost of Tsushima, best known for the John Wick films. At present, no cast members have been formally announced — it's probably far too early for that. Still, it's exciting that the wheels are turning on this adaptation.

This is one of the few games where I consider a movie adaptation as almost impossible to ***** up, when made with the right dedication and money. The story could work exceptionally well as a film. It's simple and straightforward and you could leave out some of the subplots without harming the main narration. Real locations, an A-class cinematographer and as little cgi as possible. And with Stahelski at the helm, I'm really optimistic that the action will absolutely deliver. That's it.
(Oh, and there should be an alternative black and white version, of course.)
They will ***** it up anyway.
Now I know we all want this to be good, but let's look at who we're dealing with before we get too excited - Sony Pictures.
The same studio that mandates all their releases be around 105 minutes, PG-13, and just generally of low quality (looking at you Morbius, Uncharted, and practically all of their horror outputs). So despite who's involved the studio will find a way to ***** it up. They always do!
It'll be more 47 Ronin than Last Samurai I bet.
Hopefully they will film on the actual Tsushima Island
As I was scrolling past this headline I thought it said takashi miike. Got really excited for a hot second.
Chad Stahelski is an enormously talented director, but I have zero confidence in Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.
A good action director but is he a good fit for this beloved masterpiece of a game
Mother of negativity! I know it's the internet and all, but Jeez!
@Royalblues most importantly, movie goers enjoyed it, so it was definitely a well made movie for that particular audience. Definitely not for negative Nancys, most of whom didn't even watch it.
I love the game very much, but, I dont have the same energy for the movie.
This movie feels like a home run, I just feel like it might be a dud.
I'd rather watch the story with it's amazing visuals than play through doing the same thing hundreds of times over, so this has a shot at being pretty good imo
I'll still give the movie a chance, I LOVED the game.
@GKT what?
