If you've been hankering for a PlayStation 2-style mascot platformer, Kao the Kangaroo looks to fill that niche pretty handily. This reboot, announced at the start of this year, brings back the charming marsupial and his signature boxing gloves in an all-news adventure. While it might not trouble the biggest names in gaming, there's definitely an audience for titles like this. The good news is that fans of 3D platformers don't have much longer to wait.
Developer Tate Multimedia has announced the game will launch on 27th May 2022 on both PS5 and PS4. News of the release date comes alongside a new trailer, which emphasises the kangaroo's powerful elemental gloves that can manipulate the environment. The game itself is looking like simple, solid fun — we're quite looking forward to jumping in.
The game launches physically and digitally next month, retailing for $34.99/£29.99 and $29.99/£24.99 respectively. Will you be making the leap to play Kao the Kangaroo? Hop into the comments section below.

> Pronounced K.O.
Ooooh that makes so much sense and yet never occurred to me, lol
I literally always thought it was pronounced "cow" and I realize now how dumb that is.
Is the higher price for the physical version like the article states or the PS5 version which the Amazon links state (which don't link to the game for me to check further, I guess because I'm not in UK)?
Really looking forward to this one!
I might get this one depending on reviews
Playing Crash Bandicoot 4 right now and loving it, so I'm pumped for this as well! Definitely releasing a lot sooner than I thought.
Looks like its a well made 3D platformer
Yep. Depending on the reviews might be a day 1 purchase for me. Loved the crash bandicoot trilogy and crash bandicoot 4 (except the final level, which I never finished!). Consoles need more platformers, shame they’re relying on old franchises and nothing new or revolutionary is available.
The original Koa was OK, but nothing I would purchase unless it is much improved.
Yay, new Kao game on modern consoles ! 😃
It likely won't be a day 1 purchase for me as I'll likely be playing something else when this comes out (I still have a pretty deep backlog), but if it turns out to be good, I'll definitely keep an eye on it for later on.
Sadly this game only has a digital release in the USA...I will still support it though.
@Milktastrophe This is correct, the physical version costs an extra $5.
I played the demo and was fun, the handling of Kao felt pretty good as well as the combat and traversal mechanics. Depending on the price in my region I might pick this up when it releases as I can see this scratching my Spyro itch.
I thought it was pronounced COW like Chao (CHOW) from the Sonic games. I guess I was wrong.
