Highly rated manga and anime property Made in Abyss is getting a video game adaptation later this year on PlayStation 4. Published by Spike Chunsoft and due to release at some point in the Autumn, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is described as an action RPG — although the above trailer doesn't give much away in terms of actual gameplay.
Made in Abyss is all about...well, an abyss, which holds all kinds of mysteries and relics of a bygone civilisation. A young girl named Riko uncovers a robot boy whom she calls Reg, and the two of them descend into the abyss to uncover its secrets. Despite its cutesy appearance, Made in Abyss features some very mature content, and the game seems to be following suit — which is why it's rated M.
Binary Star Falling into Darkness has a dedicated story mode based on the anime, as well as a second mode where players create their own explorer. The latter has an original plot penned by manga author Akihito Tsukushi.

So sad it doesn't look better. The anime (and even the manga) is a fantastic piece of art, with a disturbing mood and setpieces, and I would easily place it among my favorites.
Well, let's hope the gameplay is fun enough.
I wasn't expecting that level of violence when I started watching
The Abyss is one of the most stunning fantasy settings I've seen and unfortunately I doubt this game will capture even an ounce of that combined sense of wonder and terror.
I was pretty excited for this. The I saw it was being made by Spike Chunsoft
Noooo not everything needs a videogame adaptation. Majority of the anime is them running away from boss level monsters why the heck are they fighting them with sticks in this? Least they could have done is make it a survival horror, see monster run and hide or use gadgets to make clean break.
@Olmaz Wouldn't put it better myself. Kinda wished it look more crisp and not so "budgety"
I read the manga, it's really good although it's a dark story. I hope the game is good too.
Edit: The english voice acting is bad, I hope there's option to switch to japanese voice 😅
Game looks lame, I'll just stick to the anime and movies.
@wiiware I actually had to mute the trailer. Riko's original VA makes her sound adventurous, cheerful and energetic without getting obnoxious - this on the other hand was a shrieky mess.
Luckily, Japanese games without dual audio are a rarity these days.
@Gaia093 Yeah, I don't like it when the va change the characters from the japanese version. Like in dragon quest 11, the protagonist best friend is quiet and mild mannered in japanese va, but really cheerful (and weirdly british) in english voice.
