Sony has updated its official blog post on the upcoming PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium tiers. When the new subscription options were first announced, they were given a vague June 2022 release window — but now we've got the dates that the overhauled service is targeting across various regions.
Here are the target dates, as per Sony:
- Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022
- Japan – targeting June 1, 2022
- Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
- Europe – targeting June 22, 2022
Of course, it should be noted that we're yet to find out which games are actually included with PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium — but with these release dates quickly approaching, it's assumed that Sony will spill the beans in the near future. You can click the following link for more information on the new PS Plus tiers.

Europe continues to get shafted by Sony.
This is like the Dune release strategy except slightly better since everyone gets it in the same month
It's interesting that they're staggering it. I'd assume that's because they're potentially worried about server load maybe? Which, weirdly, could be a positive thing?
What’s with the delay in Europe? Sony continue to treat us with contempt, this is not the first time this has happened.
What a weird roll-out.
Out tomorrow in Asia but still no list of games...? They're really hoping those customers opt for the top tier out of good faith alone!
Correction: I misread the dates 😅
@Broosh May, not April.
I think the release schedule seems to be in inverse order of PlayStation market presence. Perhaps it’s due to saving the biggest server loads to the end, perhaps it’s to help push the brand in areas where it’s struggling, like Japan and Asia
Nice. It probably won't have all of the games I want at launch, but I'm patient. I have enough to play while I wait for my old first party favourites to land on this.
Oh look. EU being screwed as per usual.
I stopped caring about this as soon as I learned it's really just a rebrand of PSNow and nothing new is being provided. I just want to be able to outright buy PSOne, PS2, and PS3 games à la carte. Is that too much to ask for these days...?
@DonJorginho Hah, no surprises there. We’re always last on Sony’s invitation list.
Love how they still don't have any meaningful information to share with us beyond a vague staggered release date with no explanation as to why Europe has to wait three weeks to access this, though.
I mean I assume it's server related, but come on Sony! This is not the update anyone wanted at this point...
Really looks like they’re rolling this out based on potential server load - smallest markets first then the next smallest, etc. If they release in EU first and the servers can’t handle it, it could potentially ruin the rollout for the other markets.
All markets rolled out within a month doesn’t seem too bad to me.
@AinsleyE Good catch. My tired brain strikes again.
The targeting part is a little too vague for my liking. I'm calling Europe having to wait until July. Might as well lower expectations now so anything sooner is a bonus.
@get2sammyb for big changes to software it's common to stagger the release so that way when it breaks, not all of your customers are blocked, and you can fix the issues before it gets to your most important customers.
So what Sony is saying here, is they actually value Europe above all other regions and want to make sure they get the most stable PS+ experience.
Sad truth I feel that Sony thinks people will just purchase it regardless they weren't very fourthcoming with PS5 info before release and will think hype will take affect, seems they want to follow in GTA footsteps of not showing anything and people will be happy to spend because of wanting to find out.
@RoomWithaMoose PS1 and PSP games are new, not something coming from Now. Also, PS5 games in the Extra tier could be considered new as well since Now doesn't have PS5 games either.
@nessisonett Who cares if we have to wait one extra week? I would think it's just more complicated to launch in Europe than in the US. Also, they are making Asia the Guinea pigs.
@get2sammyb I was wondering if this was even news. I could have sworn that I knew this already.
@get2sammyb They probably want to time the major info close to their earnings results.
@Milktastrophe well, To be fair it had those PSP god of war games on there.
Yeah, it’s about time to get that info pouring Sony..
@BanterousBarnzy97 those are the PS3 versions, not PSP.
Unfortunately my PS Now is set to cancel just before that and they turned off my auto renew so I'll have to fork over the full price for premium. That's some way to treat the loyal customers who used ps now since nearly the start.
Dead last as usual, very nice.
@Milktastrophe oh I had forgotten about that mini collection, That’s my bad.
With the PSNow version of RE:CVX being a PS3 version but the PS4 version of the game being the PS2 version continues to throw me off.
I still don't get why people aren't complaining about it going down to two free games a month for the same price.
People crying again. Take your release date info and move along for gods sake
See complaints on here about EUROPE being treated with contempt, this is one of Sonys strong holds.
Do they know they have Nintendo and Microsoft breathing down their neck.
Also nearly one year and 6 months and still no VRR, what a complacent company Sony are becoming.
Perhaps they want to slip to third place like they did with the tv market a few years ago and never really recovered.
@boomerpeety It’s not. The PS5 game has always been advertised as a “bonus title”, so they’ve always stuck to the two games a month marketing.
the only bonus been last is if its crap it will save us from wasting money joining it
Still rather light on details...a handful of extra EU countries getting the Premium/Now service, (though nothing for the likes of Down Under region or our NZ cousins)....presumably we're part of the EU store roll-out but zero info on local pricing or details regarding how many of the ps1/ps2/psp games will be accessible via the "Deluxe" tier or its pricing compared to Premium!🤔
Likewise still no info on the basic upgrade option (or lack thereof),if you have a couple years or so of Plus already! (Again with PS Now never being available in my region).
@nessisonett At least we get the best boxart. I'm still haunted by the awful US version of Heavy Rain...
I assume the recent they haven't revealed the games is because the publishers don't want to kill two months of potential sales but they could at least announced some of the ps1/ps2/psp games that would be available
I don't mind the European delay too much. It means we might know what the games are by then
@Dezzy70 There not being complacent, their rolling out major changes to their software with minimal issues. Europe is their biggest market but also the one to cause the most server issues.
@AdamNovice
It’s was a bit of a joke as others mentioned it.
I’m being a moaner about VRR really
Their PS5 updates are becoming more like their tv market updates, slow long promises that sometimes never appear, or appear after a long time but with a little special Sony snag or two. 😂
@DonJorginho
Europe is the biggest Playstation market there is with most Playstations in the wild. I think they begin small and end with the biggest continent. Something with server overload? The same goes for Japan, also a big market. has nothing to do with first or last as some babies here think. this is more of a technical thing.
Asia Markets (Excluding Japan).
Seriously? C'mon Sony that's your HQ's main turf! Stop crapping on them! Put Japan back as your number one priority or it could mean Japanese developers could be less favourable to you. And we don't want that.
Japanese favouring PlayStation (and Nintendo) is what differentiates PlayStation from Xbox. Otherwise what's the point of you? You'll just look like another primary westernised platform. (And I don't mean that in an insulting way for the record)
At least with the first region launch on 23rd May, we should find out what games are on this service pretty soon. They'll have to give potential subscribers a week or two of notice, along with any upgrade paths etc
As for people crying about having to wait a couple more weeks than other regions? Does it REALLY matter that much? If it does, you perhaps have bigger issues to worry about.
Ok when does Australia get it? We fall under European realease dates for games but then we come under Asia for other things.
I couldn't care less about the release date until I know what games. It's like saying a movie is coming out on a certain date but not knowing what the movie is, madness...
Still making no decisions until I see that classic game line up.
@nessisonett its only a month calm down and 9 days later than the US, hardly a big issue.
Of course Europe gets s*** on like always!
More and more I'm believing this will be the same exact games available on PSNOW with a handful of extra new ones added to throw sand at our eyes..
I would love to be informed the upgrade path. Should’ve been announced when the service was announced. I’m interested in the top tier but will wait until it’s all released so I know what games are added
Although I'm not gonna be paying extra and upgrading, I find the Europe release strange. Doesn't PlayStation dominate the console sales in the region?
So we have to wait the longest then 👎🏻
@Shstrick doesn't Asia have the largest population
The lack of info is worrying. Why aren’t they hyping this up???
Surely if it’s brilliant news they’d be sharing it? I’m prepared to be underwhelmed and avoid disappointment
@Would_you_kindly Yes, but they historically are the smallest region in terms of console hardware and console game sales. It’s primarily a mobile/PC market.
@get2sammyb dont know if you guys can clarify something, i heard on podcast that those with ps now and no plus wont be upgraded to top tier, when i rwad it it sounded like if you had ps now then you automatically get upgraded to top tier even if you dont have plus. I am in a bit of a situation as i let plus go last month and just bought 12month of now, as i thought that would be best for this, worst case scenario i have to buy a plus for a month but just wondered if you guys are able to clarify this its probably the podcast i was listening rwad it wrong as i havd read it again and it sound like ps now full upgradr no mention of active plus as well
@Stocksy what is there to hype up it old games they probably hype it next month.
@DonJorginho At least Japan is second. People say they don't support it as much.
@Daleaf Honestly not sure until we get more details from Sony. I think that would be harsh — and difficult for Sony to implement — so my guess is you'll be automatically upgraded in your situation, but you might need to wait for more info.
Hopefully all this will be cleared up in the coming weeks.
Omg. Really. People complaining about the "late" European release. We should all understand that PlayStation has limited resources and if they are opting for a staggered release, there is a logic behind. I rather have them releasing the platform gradually, than everywhere at once and then the platform collapses. For god sake people, let's all be patient here. Will the gaming community be ever happy?
Europe is last in line, but NA is second-to-last, and that's the second biggest gaming market in the world. I really don't think there's any "contempt" for Europe here.
Anyway, it's very weird to me that they're giving us this schedule for when the service will roll out, but they haven't said what games will be included, if they're going to eventually include all first-party titles, etc.
So June 13th is when my PS Now subscription should convert to PS Premium?
Thanks for the heads up!
Echoing the other earlier comments wondering about us here in Australia… are we lumped in with Asia or Europe this time around, or - like with PS Now to date - just not getting a mention at all, and potentially STILL missing out on a PS streaming service?? 😕
@MattyHammo I have little doubt we'll be tied into the EU roll-out too given we've been part of not only the EU psn since the ps3 days but also back to the ps1/2 era dating back to the PAL/NTSC era.
That said given the local Playstation twitter have been dead silent on PS Plus & only a brief acknowledgement on the local site with no real info otherwise suggests we're a lower priority & they're as much in the dark as we are!
Even reading the "local downloads" of ps1/ps2/psp titles is open to interpretation given we're odds on to have the deluxe tier until they finally add streaming to our neck of the woods....how much cheaper that'll be vs Premium's price overseas remains TBD!🤔
@XanderTigerclaw Jim Ryan's world map must be one of those old ones a bit vague on the southern hemisphere generally & we're just pencilled in as "XXXX" like in the Discworld novels!😋😂
My assumption for the staggered release and order is that Asian and Japanese audiences are usually far less critical than the West. This gives them almost a month to fix and issues without the dog piling.
@Robocod horribly accurate for most Northernside companies! 😝
Is 'Straya Asia markets or Europe 🤔
"Europe being screwed again"
You lot are adorable. Probably right though I'm sure sony are doing it just to piss the Europeans off.
@DonJorginho Id look at it that they will iron out any potential issues by the time its released in EU..
PS+ games release on first Tues of month. First in June is the 7th. Expanded PS+ starts on the 13th so I'm expecting two announcements. Regular PS+ announcement on previous Wed - June 1st and then expanded PS+ on the 13th. 🤣
Wishful thinking I know 😇🙏
Release dates before full games list? Hmm. Do people still say sus these days? The PR around this has been full of red flags for me.
@commentlife Yeah but it's not like you have to buy it now?
Just wait until whenever the games list is released then make your decision.
I'm betting my dong that there will be good games on here.
Did Microsoft ever announce the lineup for Game Pass before launch?
