Driving high-powered modern trains through urban and rural environments is entertaining, but rail enthusiasts have been clamouring for some more classic rides to arrive in Train Sim World 2. Dovetail has always had the ambition to do it, but noted that it needed a little time to get the simulation correct. Now its first attempt has arrived on the PS5 and PS4, with its Spirit of Steam expansion.
The add-on takes players back to the 1950s, on the historic line between Liverpool and Crewe. “Immersed in the middle of the British Railways steam era, take control of the famous LMS Jubilee Class locomotive, resplendent in nostalgic BR Brunswick Green livery, adorned with BR’s late crest,” the press release reads.
You’ll also be able to commandeer the LMS Stanier 8F Class locomotive, with its “rugged BR Late Black guise and 2-8-0 wheel configuration better suited to hauling lower speed, heavy freight trains”.
Obviously these being steam trains, you’ll have a lot to learn: “Master the art of steam simulation; the firebox and boiler create the ultimate balancing act to keep these machines alive and powerful. Take on the challenge of the 1950s: with no modern comforts to rely on, the only safety system is your wit. Learn the finesse and rhythm of each locomotive to determine your speed and keep to the timetable.”
We imagine these are going to be quite challenging to commandeer, but it should provide a fresh experience for Train Sim World 2 fans. According to Dovetail, all of the scenery and stations throughout the 36-mile route are historically accurate, which sounds fantastic to us. I wish I started playing this from the very beginning, I just love trains. But those 500+ trophies to try and earn now? I just couldn't.
Will I be able to grow a mustache, laugh maniacally, tie someone up and put them on the train tracks?
Looks great! I do blame Sammy for getting me into Train Sim World 2 though 😂
@Gbarsotini Sadly not. But good news: you can in Red Dead Redemption!
Wow, this is certainly a departure (no pun intended!) from the usual dlc. I have the base game so may have to check this out.
I’d love this game if it ran properly
