Long running role-playing series Sword and Fairy is heading West this summer with a new instalment: Sword and Fairy: Together Forever. It's set to release for both PS5 and PS4, but it'll only be available digitally at first. According to publisher Eastasiasoft, physical editions are "in the works".
For those totally out of the loop, Sword and Fairy has long been one of China's most notable video game properties. It primarily deals in Chinese mythology, complete with colourful characters and fantastical settings. Together Forever is being billed as the series' most technically advanced entry yet, built using Unreal Engine 4, and boasting a real-time combat system with an emphasis on character switching. It looks solid in the above announcement trailer.

il get lost in this love fantasy games.
**** name... but looks half decent fair play
Seeing a trailer like this, I start to realize how Elden Ring has put me in a state where I am a lot more harsh and demanding of fantasy action RPGs.
The same thing happened to me before after playing Dark Souls. It took quite some time before I could enjoy another action RPG without constantly comparing it to DS.
Elden Ring is a really a massive and special achievement, and I hope it won't demotivate devs to up their game, but in the contrary push them to get even better.
This game looks absolutely fine, it will maybe even be quite good. But will it offer me more than a NG+ go at Elden Ring? That's my current state, and I both hate and love ER for it.
Really liked it on PC. Combat is fun.
That they are giving this amount of content and production value for $29 on consoles is amazing. Great value for the money.
I cant see this running on a PS4 well. Definitely play it on PS5 - especially if it keeps RayTracing from PC or a @60fps mode.
so much yes. Despite it's PS2 graphics, I loved 6.
These Softstar games have excellent stories. Check out Sword and Fairy 6 if you haven't, Xuan Yuan Sword 7 too. Great games
@colonelkilgore it's called Chinese Paladin: Sword and Fairy in some regions. (Asia iirc)
I’ll certainly pick it up if they can convert it to run on consoles without breaking it this time.
Looks right up my alley. Is wholesome hack and slash a thing? I'll definitely give it a try when it comes out.
I still need to play through Sword and Fairy 6.
Looks fun, I might pick it up.
Still waiting on that Wukong game though
Exciting! This has been a little over looked as a series for a while, at least it felt that way on PC where coverage seemed slight, but I feel it matches with PS so hopefully will sell well.
I'm well up for this, a little sword and sorcery with Asian mysticism would be a nice change of pace from my travels in the Lands Between. I bet I wont scream at the telly as much playing this
Hate unreal engine 4 (5 looks amazing) as it always has texture streaming issues and bad frame pacing in open world games
Looks very solid but let's just hope it turns out well.
Anyone still remember Sword and Fairy 6 and its disastrous buggy launch? I'm hoping this one does it better than the previous one. From the looks of it, it's like a mix of Tales with Xuan Yuan Sword 7, and definitely a major improvement over 6's combat, so who knows lol
HEAVEN WITCH, RECIEVE YOUR PUNISHMENT!
Yeah, I'm sold.
Also, any updates on American Showa Story? (I think that was the title)
Its quite pretty
Looks interesting, are the titles standalone or you need to play previous games to understand the story etc?
@AndyKazama Xuan Yuan Sword 7 has been on my wishlist some time. Sounds like you enjoyed it and recommend it? These days I'm in the mood for new and unfamiliar IPs. It looks pretty decent, the reviews are rather positive, I just need to know if gameplay isn't so bad it gets in the way of enjoyment.
@Royalblues thought for a sec it was Black Myth: Wukong you meant, but don’t think it has sci-fi elements.
Want to give this a try, love playing AAA games from other countries with different influences.
@nofriendo gameplay is fine. Is action RPG with cool downs and the story is wonderful. Recommend it.
Given the title, I wonder if Rick Astley is on the soundtrack.
Yes please. I'm all for this less known games making their way to US.
Hahaha HELL naw
I'm interested, it's always interesting to see tropes from a country outside of the usual.
Looks interesting, may give it (and atleast one previous entry in the series) a try.
(sorry for double posting.)
@Royalblues @Jeaz: At the top of my head, the only one that comes to mind is that open world RPG spin-off from Tencent's Honor of Kings. Maybe thats the one Royalblues thought of?

Will this have Japanese audio, I just find the Chinese dialogue to be too fast and off putting
