It's finally been confirmed: Assassin's Creed Origins is getting its long, long awaited PS5 update on the 2nd June. That's actually sooner than we were anticipating — we were betting on it dropping when the open world title hits Xbox Game Pass next week. A nice little surprise, then.
The patch will allow the PS4 game to run at 60 frames-per-second on PS5.
And er...well, that's about it. Origins is considered by many to be one of the best games in Ubisoft's series. It features a stunning recreation of Egypt, complete with pyramids, temples, bustling cities, and vast swathes of desert. It also revitalised Assassin's Creed as a franchise, going on to sell incredibly well following the relative disappointment of Assassin's Creed Unity and Assassin's Creed Syndicate.
Will you be journeying back to Egypt this week? Watch out for burning bugs in the comments section below.

Hooray! Such a good game, Bayek is just a great character to inhabit.
Nice, I am in! Was going to do a rerun of Odyssey while waiting for next week, but I think I'll do Origins again first in a couple of days.
Really excited, been waiting to play this for a long time now!
I know they won't do it becuse there is no reason to but it would be cool if they did a ps5 update for ghost recon wildlands
Really good game but definitely on the long side. Hearing Odyssey and then Valhalla were even longer and even less Assassin-ey stopped me playing those despite playing every single one before.
Uff. If there would be more time and no GT7 & Horizon 2 then I would jump back in the game and finish the DLC.
That was the last one I enjoyed.
Double the frames, double the torture
I enjoyed Odyssey, though it did drag a bit, but all I’ve seen for Origins is praise. Perhaps I’ll give it a go. Do we know if it is going to be available in PS Premium as part of Ubisoft+ Classics?
Skipped Unity (too much bad press), loved Syndicate, own Origins and never got into it for some reason. Time to start over and give it another try.
Yes! We need more Bayek in AC..full stop.
I can't wait to go back to the magnificient Egypt. Thank you Ubisoft, better later than never.😘
Very cool! I don't know if it's enough for me to go back right away but maybe some day.
@RobN you should check out unity , once they fixed the bugs , it was actually a pretty cool game. i loved the setting and the story was actually pretty good.
@twitchtvpat Thanks, I might still try Unity some day - I think I got it on PC for free.
I still remember the very first AC (on PS3, I believe), being SO impressed with it and wondering where they'd go, and Brotherhood might be one of my favorites. I've not been completely happy with all their choices (wish they would pay more attention to the modern world side of the story again), but generally I've enjoyed the series when I get wrapped up enough in the story and rhythm that it doesn't feel like a slog.
Still...fell out of it and haven't played Origins or anything since. This is probably the kick I need to go back to it.
@RobN @twitchtvpat Unity and Origins are both my favorite AC games.
Unity is visually stunning, even today. Arno is a very good character, with an interesting progression. Paris is still the best city of any AC game, and the story is pretty good. The climbing is also very well balanced.
Origins has Bayek, the best AC character after Enzo, a magnificent and exotic open world with Ancient Egypt, a very interesting story with cool links to the rest of the franchise and very good combat mechanics (much more analog than the MMOesque Odyssey and Valhalla). Its length was also (at least to me) right what it should : expansive but not overly long.
If you have any interest in the franchise, play both games, you won't regret it.
@BoldAndBrash double the negativity
@RobN - Another vote for Unity here, took a while for Ubi to knock it into shape post release but it's well worth playing. As mentioned already it still looks incredibly good and for me it has the best parkour system and assassin toolkit in the whole series. Excellent game.
I'll be sure to enjoy it once it comes to Ubisoft+ Classics.
@Otherbarry I wouldn’t say a 60fps patch for Wildlands is completely out of the question. Theres been 2 Assassins Creed games since Origins (Odyssey & Valhalla), and since GR Wildlands there’s only been one GR game (Breakpoint). I’d love for it to happen.
@Nightcrawler71 you know what you might be right i didnt think of that , I had forgot that there where a few other AC games after Origins for some reason i thought that was more recent one. Here hoping I would like to go back and get the Plat in Wildlands but when i tried to go back to it recently i found it almost unplayable with the 30fps. I've been spoiled with the 60 and in some cases 120fps
Hopefully they fix Syndicate on PS5 next then upgrade Unity.
@RobN @Ward_ting I've also never played Origins before! Looking forward to eventually playing it in 60 fps on my PS5.
I'm currently playing thru the older AC games right now, just beat & platinumed AC2.
A bit late for this 60fps upgrade, imo, for those who already played it.
But if there's anyone here that was/is reticent at giving it a first go, this is the best time to get into it!
Origins is the second Assassin's Creed i played (after Black Flag), and I enjoyed thoroughly at the time.
Buy I find Odyssey much more to my liking, the very best of the recent trilogy, first of all in the gameplay department. Jumping from mountaintops without taking damage, jump-assassinating while running, spartan kicking unaware guards from the high ramparts and watching them fall aaaaaaall the way down... you feel like a badass all around, it just never gets old throughout the game.
Awesome just finished Days Gone will definitely be replaying tomorrow I enjoyed it more than Odyssey.Never played the dlc which I've heard is great.
@RobN I would give Unity a try. The combat system is very unique for AC - it's the only AC where it's very easy to get overwhelmed and killed. But the bugs have been squashed and it looked beautiful on PS4 Pro; it's probably even better on PS5, I really should give it another playthrough.
Paris is absolutely beautiful - it's the only game I've played where everything looks live action. It's still rough on vanilla PS4 but it worked great on my Pro and is probably even better on 5.
Also, the multiplayer parts can be played single player. I did not play a single second of multiplayer and still platinum'd it.
@stefan771 Yeah! I am so hopeful for a Syndicate patch on PS5. I understand why the bugs left AC Unity in a rut, I didn't have a PS4 when it launched but evidently it was basically unplayable for weeks, yes? I played it a year-ish after launch, once I could get a PS4, and greatly enjoyed it. But I'm surprised that Syndicate gets so much shade. It's one of my favorite AC's. Maybe it was the Unity hangover?
@Shinnok789 It's all down to personal taste but while I loved Origins, I was less thrilled about Odyssey and even less so about Valhalla. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both, particularly since Odyssey has such a wonderfully strong story. But it felt like neither game really rewarded stealth; especially Valhalla, where it's basically not possible to play as a stealth character. I don't hate the trilogy and I'll be playing the new Valhalla DLC soon but I don't love it either and I'm excited to see what direction they choose for the next set of games.
Origins, though. So good. I absolutely loved sneaking through some of those Roman forts emptying them out one by one in stealth and using the day/night cycle to my advantage, and Alexandria and Memphis are really enjoyable cities.
@stefan771 Also, while I would love to see Unity in 60 FPS, given how beautiful the graphics are, I have a suspicion that Unity may suffer from spaghetti code due to the necessity for rapid post-launch patching, so I fear that tasking devs with upgrading it is fairly unlikely - it might not even get them good press; even though it plays well now, I fear that it would just lead to a round of stories reminding the community that when it launched it was a giant mess. It's a shame, the game looks beautiful and raising the frame rate, which would regularly hover into what felt like the teens/20s on a vanilla PS4, would make it absolutely stunning.
