You’ve probably already seen the first teaser trailer for Netflix’s adaptation of Resident Evil – it’s been viewed over one million times since debuting yesterday – but this follow-up lays out the plot a little better. As you’ll recall, New Raccoon City is an idyllic urban metropolis, and it’s seemingly powered by a new drug named Joy – so far, so Brave New World.
As Wesker, played by Lance Reddick, explains in this new trailer, Joy is an uber-powerful anti-depressant that can reduce OCD and anxiety. The caveat, however, is that it contains the T-Virus – always read the small-print, folks. The backend of the trailer shows Ella Balinska’s character fighting off a bunch of familiar zombies in an apocalyptic London – not good.
Clearly this is a unique and alternative take on Capcom’s horror franchise, but we reckon it’s shaping up nicely. Last year’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was pretty faithful to the source material, and didn’t exactly receive rave reviews, so we’re open to an alternate take. Are you gradually coming around, or is this still a miss from where you’re sitting?

This looks like absolute piss IMO. Very Netflix but hopefully it’s less like the movies than it seems.
This trailer looks slightly more promising than the teaser… only slightly though.
I think it looks okay, but some of the dialogue is really bad in this trailer. Hopefully that's just because it's edited down.
Looks terrible like worse than Anderson and Welcome To Raccoon City terrible I think live action RE adaptations need to stop
I think it looks highly entertaining and will definitely be watching it.
@JudgeDredd He’s just got one of those voices. Like Alan Rickman.
This looks better than the teaser, but...that's not saying much. Looks really cringe. Still don't think I'll subject myself to this.
Looks bad but I didn't expect much.
"ooooh that's the guy who wishes he was Levar Burton"
Would love to see a claustrophobic Resident Evil TV show set in a mansion - with 7 or so episodes. Seems like it would be a great chance to replicate the atmosphere of the earlier games, or even 7/Village.
I'm not really sure who the target audience for this is. Maybe it'll be good, maybe it won't, but I don't really see the point of making a show called Resident Evil that looks more like 28 Days Later
Looks bad.. but on par with others recent RE adaptations.
After seeing the new adaptations, I realize that at least the first 2 movies with Milla are miles better, with time I can see this films becoming cult classics.
Why do they keep making RE films and shows that, at BEST, only bear a passing resemblance to the actual RE??
Why don't we ever get an RE film based on Zero to focus on the stuff happening in the mansion?
They should have distanced themselves from the games and made something with different characters, smaller, without the giant CGI monsters. A soft live action reboot like Resident Evil 7 was for the games. Maybe in a mansion or.. a creepy Village?
HALO lost me on Episode 3.
I'll give it a try, but not really hopping for much at this point.
More Resident Evil turd material. At the point now where I only care for the scary twisted horror RE games. Everything else they do are turds
People forget that the source material is a silly cringefest, but it works as a game. Most gamers have no clue what they really want to see in an adaptation, but always spout strong prejudices and the idea that they could do it better.
I’m just glad they kept the cute, holographic, singing bear from the original games… 🤔
Maybe one day they'll get one of these right, iylts a shame they've already blown their chance with RE1 and 2 which seems to be an easy open goal but somehow they keep blowing it.
The opening premise of this doesn't seem so bad but what's with the need to hump to London and a world of zombies. Resi is at its best with small areas amd few monsters. I'll still give it a go
Somehow, this seems like it will be worse than the absolutely putrid Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Capcom should stick to games.
RE failed at every online multiplayer game they've ever done including both outbreaks. Failed at every movie that looks and feels nothing like RE and none of the movies are even close to being scary including all the animated movies which are a little better overall than every live action RE movie turds. For every good horror game Capcom release they go and ruin it by failing at the 3rd remake and then going onto release the overrated and barely any horror big ugly arse melons
Apologies for being a negative Nancy but Im just huge passionate RE fan even though it doesn't sound like it. You are more than welcome to disagree
I adored Welcome To Raccoon City because it nailed the music and atmosphere of the games and while doing its own thing, FELT like the 1990s. THIS? Looks like Anderson on steroids.
Couldn't the makers of 'We Happy Few' have a few words about ..JOY..
@jmac1686 that movie really nailed that John Carpenter feel. Unfortunately they seriously botched up Leon, but I was pleased with most everything else. By far not perfect but worlds apart from the Anderson movies.
Let me guess ... another joyless show about miserable people.
i actually enjoyed Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City because it had a lot of call backs to the game. was it a great movie? of course not, but it was still worth the 9.99$ i paid for it on itunes.
It just looks... well, like a show that exists that someone whose never played Resident Evil might like.
@P3nguinpris0N Same, I'm excited to watch this adaptation seriously! Plan on binging it the weekend of release.
Hmm giant caterpillars, big moths from resi 2 maybe ,although this looks mothra size ,not large bird size, ill give it 2 episodes if its bunkum ill leave it, im more interested in the next season of umbrella academy to be honest, and what they do with Eric paige or whatever their name is now.
Lance Reddick. I'm in.
I must learn to curb my excitement when a new resi movie/series gets announced. This looks like a pile of white crusty dog turd. They just get it wrong over and over again. Urghhhh
@tameshiyaku Imagine if they made a resident evil series that was 100% faithful to the game… same level of cheesy dialogue, delivered with the same cheesy bad acting. Same stilted direction and camera shots. People would still say it’s rubbish, why can’t they make a good game adaptation that’s faithful to the source material. We can only hope somebody mentions somebody being part of a sandwich in this!
Personally, the trailer looked decent. Only thing I didn’t like was the wide shot of all the zombies these things have to thrown in there.
The dialog I though showed it’s not taking itself too seriously. I got suicide squads vibes from this trailer. Hopefully the show will be good.
i was hoping they would catch the original resident evils theme. looks like they lost it and me. i loved the original resident evil played it so much i only saved once and cleared the entire game below the 3 hour mark to get the rocket launcher. then the resident evil 2 demo disc arrived i played it so much until i got the full game and did the same 4 characters in that game fond memories!
@WaveBoy yup all the movies got worse and worse with every sequel. Still think the first 02 movie is a pure turd, just a little less of a turd than the others ha. I mean the first ever 96 RE game we spend around 70% of our gaming time in a huge mansion and the first ever 02 RE movie we have a small 2 min scene in a tiny mansion, says it all really doesn't it. And lol don't get me started on how they turned Nemesis into a Kung Fu panda in RE Apocalypse movie, so stupid
