How can a bit of plastic cost so much?
And yet these covers still are available in some countries. Why can’t they just release them elsewhere? pieces of plastic aren’t that hard to produce.
@Galo81 Because it will sell. An extra Switch Dock costs 80€ here and is not more than cheap plastic with a tiny chip inside
Think I'll stick to white. Never did mind it before the PS5 came out, and have really grown to like it. Besides, if I got one of these new plates my 'regular' Dualsense'd look out of place.
I'll stick to white (despite getting a galactic purple controller). If they were half the price they're asking, I might be tempted. If they were a third the price I'd probably buy one.
£45 for two sheets of plastic is fools math!
What happened to those ones that Sony banned - didn't they redesign them and relaunch? Was it DBrand or something?
too expesnive. this is quite the scam. it is no wonder sony released ps5 in white, knowing most people hated the colour. it was intentional to boost sales of the faceplates (black in particular which should always be the defacto option for consumers). i will wait it out until sony releases a ps5 sku in black out of the box, although grey would be nice as well.
I wish the ps5 will become available with coloured plates + controller already attached. I'd certainly consider laying down the £450 to upgrade if I could get it in red without spending an extra 110 quid on a controller and face plates
@Porco If that were the case they would have had face plates the moment the console launched...not everything is a scam.
Not related to the covers, but I had got a Midnight Black controller a couple of months ago and returned it because it was extremely creaky compared to the original white one. From the triggers to the face buttons, pressing them would sound like I was twisting the whole thing.
Has anyone with a new color controller noticed that? Maybe I just got a bad one.
@AdamNovice no, that would be TOO obvious.
@Porco Also "most people hated the colour" bit odd that you think you speak for everybody.
@AdamNovice read the reaction to the colour online and you will find your answer. that is why the word "most" and not "all" was used here. you seem like the type of fellow who defends anything sony related, good or bad. not the best person to discuss topics with.
@BeerIsAwesome Agreed! For this price I'll wait until there's a set of Returnal plates or maybe Bloodborne or something.
Yeah, if the price was reasonable maybe I would like to buy one but come on 🙃
I bought the red months back and put it on when I put me a 1tb ssd in it
Neat. Now if only I could get a PS5.
Echoing what some others are saying - just wait for branded plates
I bought the black ones but never used them(I haven't got a clue why I bought them) I just like the original look of the consoles that come out mainly. I wish there was a way to change the light colours on the PS5 tho so when it's on it could be Blue and when in standby it could be erm Blue to(I like the Blue colour) There are some light things out there but I don't want to mess up my SEXY PS5 really. Oh well.
I hate the look of the PS5, and white sure did it no favours. I ended up putting mine in the coms cupboard out of sight. It starts from the controller (most of the time) so I only need to go in to change disks. I'll be buying a slim or Pro as soon as they release as long as it fits on my AV unit.
I will probably get my daughter to paint something on it. Anybody know which paints would work best with the current white plates?
@SilentS Acrylic paint. You can get some really cool colours and styles too, like metallic, fluorescent and my favourite — iridescent.
Don't need to sand it down, just a good clean with sugar soap or isopropyl alcohol wipes. However, you may want to consider using a plastic primer prior to any colour being applied.
@PiXiL Thanks. Will keep that in mind if she wants to even do it for me in the first place
FIFTY FIVE DOLLARY DOOS?!
This is a piece of plastic right?
"rip off" "scam" "too expensive"
"but I will buy branded plates"..
Which will cost even more.
Slow clap guys.
I bought the red and black plates and controllers to match back when they were released. I like them.
Available to buy on PlayStation direct? I couldn't get the black ones from there site. Kept coming up error.......... BUT you will be able to buy them on eBay for extortionate prices 😂😂😂😂
I'm perfectly happy with the default white cover, but might eventually switch to red or black?
Depends on how long the cover lasts for....I'm definitely thinking about getting the red controller though.
