According to reliable supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Sony intends to manufacture 1.5 million PSVR2 headsets for the second half of this year. The TF International Securities employee noted, however, that the virtual reality device could ultimately drop in early 2023, depending on the “development schedule” of game titles.
This would be an aggressive start for the headset, as it took over a year for the original PSVR to sell 2 million units on a larger PS4 install base. However, it’s worth remembering that virtual reality is more of an established technology now than it was in 2016, with products like the Meta Quest helping to raise the profile of the medium.
Sony intends to have more than 20 “major” launch titles available for PSVR2, and we’ll get our first proper glimpse at what it has in store during a State of Play presentation later this week. The company has implied that it intends to deliver larger-scale experiences with its new headset, however, as reflected by the blockbuster announcement of Horizon Call of the Mountain.

Half life alyx at launch would be able to contribute someway towards achieving that i reckon
COD really would be a great way to push VR to take off.
Sony please please please resolve the motion sickness issues of the VR1
As I've stated before, Sony need to address three things:
They need to come out strong at launch with a good lineup while not overpricing this thing. Then they need to ensure to users that the motion sickness will be minimal to none. If they can do those three things, then they'll have hit it out of the park. As things are though, I'm betting PSVR2 will be at least $400 if not more and I'll be waiting for a significant price drop.
I can see that selling out quickly, especially if they get something like GTAV or Fortnite on PSVR2.
Hopefully I can preorder one this time, and not like with the PS5, waking up to be sold out everywhere.
Sounds good, but it will sell out in minutes and end up on eBay being sold by scalpers for twice the retail price. I'll just wait another year to see if they address the motion sickness in any way and then negotiate the purchase with my wife.
@Uncharted2007
Motion sickness in VR is a physiological issue rather than tech induced, but the vibration motor in the PSVR2 headset could be used to help alleviate this:

Software I’m confident in as PSVR had one of the best libraries around, more than warranting a purchase.
As for price, there is already a budget standalone headset, this is more for the enthusiast than those happy with the lowest spec. Although those looking for the very best will stick with PC I’m sure this middle ground is large enough. Of course, those with PS5s already are likely to not be as price averse as standard consumers anyway.
I’m sure 1.5 million units will be in scalpers hands. 100% as long as the units are available. Personally, I don’t have much interest in VR, so I doubt I’ll be contributing to the sales, but hopefully Sony makes a compelling line-up (with games that don’t “need” to be VR, similar to RE7, for us flat media folk), so that at least it’s something interesting to read about. I felt like everyone I knew that had PSVR regretted purchasing it quickly after the initial novelty wore off and tried to sell it.
Doesn't the fact that this PSVR2 being tethered to the PS5 (and not standalone, and so the PS5 does most of the processing) mean the tech in this should contribute to a lower price?
No idea what that 'lower price' will be though...
I will be one of those if the launch lineup is decent and they can figure out a way to get older title to work with it.
Also, it would be cool if CAPCOM revisit RE 7 with PSVR2, since that was great use of PSVR
@spazuluwarrior Yes and no Oculus Quest 2 came out 2 years ago for £299 and has the CPU, GPU embedded. But it scrimps on cheaper screens, cheaper controllers and other areas. Complicating things it's reportedly heavily subsidised by Facebook/Meta/Zuck at that price.
PSVR2 is expected to be mid to high-end by comparison. However I can't see it costing more than the console itself = £449 max. But i'd expect it to launch at £399 hopefully including the controllers, otherwise it will always remain a niche device and devs won't support it en masse.
I will buy 12 please
@themightyant £299 - £399 would be prefect for people who are interested in it
@lolwhatno
🤣
I'm so excited for PSVR2.
My only concern about a day one PSVR2 are the inherent risks of a day one purchase. I got he PSVR day one, but because of that I missed out on the reconfigured cable being moved to the rear instead of the side, and the HDR passthrough.
I choose Wiimote / Move / Kinect over than PSVR.
I prefer old style gimmick controller.
I'll be a day 1 buyer assuming its backwards compatible. Hoping the price is reasonable and stock is available.
I'm extremely curious about the details. We all expect it to be very expensive but will the fact that its still tethered to the PS5 help boost performance without jacking up the price? How much will the vastly improved resolution and frame rate help with motion sickness?

@Perturbator 100% it will sell out quickly regardless of what it has
@lacerz then trade it in and buy the new version if that happens. Just like the Ps4 there was a pro version. The same will/could happen on Ps5. But back then it was new tech, this time round there’s way less likely to be such obvious oversights
Looking forward to finally seeing something on Thursday. Probably a day one for me if if I can get one and can still afford it when it finally arrives!
Hope this is all pre-order, one per customer. Not going to stop scalpers but might help.
Didn't get the first one but they seem to be really behind VR and with a horizon title in vr aswell. Day one🤟
@Uncharted2007 PSVR 2 is a highend VR headset, its gonna cost more than $400
@theMEGAniggle More like £500-700, its highend
@WaveBoy pretty sure it's your brain's reaction to the visual feedback of movement without any of the other sensations that go along with it. It's actually the opposite of motion sickness really, as you aren't in motion.
so it's a physiological thing, though there may be some technological workarounds in the future, I don't think we're there yet. Most people are just going to have to learn to live with some slight discomfort. At least initially.
Definitely worried about scalpers. Another low supply holiday launch backed by huge marketing. Much more niche, but scalpers know a hot product.
Cabbage Patch Kids VR
In order for me to ever consider buying the PSVR2, the follow must happen imo.
1.) Get rid of the motion sickness.
2.) Backwards compatible with most PSVR1 games.
3.) Affordable launch price ($300 or cheaper).
4.) Deliver VR exclusive AAA blockbuster games with in-depth stories and combat/gameplay.
@marty8370 lol no way it'll be that much, I'm saying £399
@somnambulance I doubt scalpers will buy most of the PSVR2 stock since PSVR isn't as popular as other headsets. Maybe the first batch but not the rest.
