The Callisto Protocol holds a lot of promise for horror fans, as it's being helmed by the minds that brought us the excellent Dead Space. The new game fronts the latest issue of Game Informer, so we've been looking forward to seeing what new details will come out. Someone has looked through the digital issue and gathered some new screenshots and info, and it's looking like a sci-fi nightmare, in a good way.
Here are a few screens of the game, showing off the monsters (called Biophages):
It really does carry a similar energy to Visceral's fan-favourite horror series, and that's no bad thing. Some other details — apparently, the game is pencilled in for release in 2022, has a mix of melee and ranged combat, and will release on PS4 as well as PS5. At least, Game Informer seems to think so.
More on the game should emerge soon, especially if it really is launching this year. Are you excited for The Callisto Protocol? What do you make of these screenshots? Reload in the comments section below.

Really excited to see this being a massive dead space fan
Looks like Dead Space.
So yep, I’m excited!
Damn, was not expecting a release this year. Dead Space is one of the best horror games ever and I cannot wait to give this a go.
Be interesting to see how this compares to the Dead Space remake.
This looks like a sequel do Dead Space honestly! It looks dope but where do we cross the line between inspiration and rip-off? Lol
@AFCC Can’t really call it a rip off if it’s made by the people that came up with Dead Space.
@Bentleyma but if it's from a different company it would still mean legal troubles, no?
This game is going to be a masterpiece.word up son
@AFCC. Its from the same guy who made dead space playa.how is that a rip of.you should be glad they are making a game similar to dead space and stop complaining.when everyone else is really excited for this game.word up son
yup all in for this one.. can't wait!
@lolwhatno While I agree that it is ridiculous that Zombie films set in the real world think that it's believable that the word and knowledge of a Zombie have been stricken from our language and history. "What is that thing??" - "I don't know! It's some kind of monster!".
Having agreed with you - these don't look like Zombies nor is their premise likely to be a zombie infection. I think making up a new monster name for them is just fine.
@playstation1995 I am not complaining at all, I couldn't care less if a game is copying another, I don't own the IP.
But if the creator doesn't own the IP itself, it's still a rip-off no? If it's EA that owns Dead Space you just can't make a copy even if you created it. At least that's what I would imagine...
But again, I just play games and all games are rip-offs of the same genres when you think about it lol
Looks pretty awesome; super Dead space vibes but that is a-okay!
@AFCC "all games are rip-offs of the same genres when you think about it lol"
This is why there's no legal issues. If you start allowing companies to copyright artstyle, game mechanics (f- you Nintendo, WB, and Bloober team), and game modes, you end up with zero room for creative freedom.
Dead Space itself is heavily inspired by Resident Evil 4 and Event Horizon. And Even Horizon was inspired by Solaris, and the original Resident Evil was inspired by Home Sweet Home.
And hence why I don't like calling things rip offs.
@lolwhatno Fun fact: From 1975 to 1996 Marvel Comics owned the trademark to the word Zombie.

@AFCC
I believe when you "rip-off" your own ideas and creations, they lovingly refer to it as "iterating"
All over this and it’s a Day 1 purchase for me. I’ve had my eye on it since announcement. Definitely one of my top 3 most anticipated games for ‘22 along w GOD OF WAR: Ragnarok and Gotham Knights.
Since this is directed by Dead Space director - Glen Schofield - I have higher hopes for this than I do for the Dead Space remake.
If you watch the the War Stories he did, you can tell he has a passion for horror.
@lolwhatno haha. It really is an un-fun fact isn’t it. Zombies it is!
Isn't this game set in the PUBG universe, or something like that? That's the only thing I'm uneasy about
So basically Schofield doing his version of Dead Space 3?...i love it!
Pinch me hard wifey.
Cool. Dead Space itself will have a hard act to follow
"biophages"....emm guys, really should think about a name-change before the social justice warriors weaponize this and make a ***** storm out of nothing.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk Same here, we'll see this and a remake of the original DS. Take me home to heaven!
This definitely feels more like Dead Space than the remake.
Been very excited for this one since the first teaser trailer at (I think it was) Game Awards.
Good to have Schofield back in the horror business, his talents were wasted on COD.
@KidBoruto you're joking right?
@Perturbator this child here
@thejoesenone Gotcha!
