Update: We had a feeling that this would happen once we published the original story (which you can still read below). CD Projekt Red has indeed given us an update on the PS5 version of The Witcher 3. The so-called Complete Edition is now targeting Q4 2022 (the start of October to the end of December). It was previously delayed to Q2 2022, but was pushed back when CDPR decided to bring development in-house.
The wait continues, but hopefully this enhanced version will be worth it.
Original Story: Genre-defining RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released on this day (19th May) seven whole years ago. Not necessarily the kind of anniversary that we write a news story about, but there was some speculation that CD Projekt Red might give us an update on the game's PS5 version as part of the celebrations.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we're getting one. We remain largely in the dark when it comes to the PS5 version — officially titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition — which was first announced back in 2020. It was originally scheduled for 2021, but it was pushed back along with everything else that CDPR had in the works following the extremely rough launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
It was delayed again just last month, as development was moved in-house at the Polish studio, having previously been helmed by port specialists Saber Interactive. CDPR then stressed that Complete Edition is not in development hell, and suggested that it hasn't been hit with an especially big delay.
Hopefully we hear something about the PS5 version soon, then. Do you think it'll come out this year, or does that seem a bit unlikely at this point? Give us your favourite Geralt line in the comments section below.

lol dont need a visual update graphics are good enough. just more story content please.
At least we got this awesome artwork out of it!
I’ve never actually really played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Well not properly anyway. I’ve played the opening couple hours on both PS4 and Switch, but I’ve been waiting for the PS5 upgrade before jumping in proper.
I could do with it coming out soon, too. I just finished off Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut this week, complete with platinum trophy, and at the moment, I’m in the final hours of Horizon: Forbidden West. So I’m ready for my next big open world action RPG. I do have Elden Ring booted up and ready to slot the disc in, but I’m man enough to say it… I’m scared. Maybe I should just jump in the deep end and start it already?
@The_Pixel_King Elden Ring is piss easy if you have a large penis.
@Bismarck That’s me ruled out then! 😂
@The_Pixel_King I was also very nervous when I made the plunge because I have never finished a soulsborne game. I can now say that I have and it was the best gaming experience I can remember for a long while! Give it a go already
@The_Pixel_King Elden Ring is nothing to be scared of. By the time it gets truly daunting, you should understand its gameplay systems enough to overcome any challenge.
The good thing about ER is that you can ALWAYS grind to over-power yourself. Something that isn't quite as simple in RPGs like Witcher.
@The_Pixel_King I had a similar "dread" at the prospect of getting in to Elden Ring. I never seem to "git gud", and the world is overwhelming. But I think I'm 150 hrs in now, and it's amazing. Yes, there's a curve, but it will 100 % reward the effort. I just take my time, over-level, use whatever summons I feel like.
@munkholt @MFTWrecks @TBubs311 Thanks for the messages guys! You’ve made me feel much better about the challenge and more confident to just dive right in. I should be done with HFW in the next few days, then it’s straight over to Elden Ring. Thanks again my friends!
Wouldn't be surprised if they are planning on trying to get it ready for when the third Netflix series launches (which I think is near the end of the year) for the extra exposure to the franchise as a whole.
I have the PC version but only played a little.
Got the PS4 complete for like 10$ and am waiting for the PS5 update to actually start playing.
Updated with word from CDPR.
@The_Pixel_King I played Demon's Souls and ER back to back (literally only separated by like a day). I thought Demon's Souls was harder.
Don't fear ER. By the time you need to fear it, you will "get" it enough to overcome any challenges. It's all doable. Know that.
@The_Pixel_King Nah. After it was delayed out of Q2, they simply said it would be coming. This is the first time they pegged a time frame to it afaik.
Hopefully they've been on it enough to update the janky combat to finally make it feel like a AAA game.
@The_Pixel_King I need to play Elden Ring myself more, I only played an hour and felt overwhelmed but it looks incredible. Just need to get confident about it as I found myself finding areas and then getting killed and feeling put off
@The_Pixel_King be warned, after Elden Ring all other games just dissapoint. I am in a genuine gaming rut and its all because of Elden Ring.
Also, I couldn't beat Bloodborne, demon's souls etc. Elden Ring was a breeze in comparison to those.
Erm, The Witcher 3?!
Some things change and other things..... don't.
😉
The Witcher 3 PS5 edition. Great!
I look forward to replaying this masterpiece.
Summer 2023 confirmed.
I actually cannot wait to replay this. I actually played it on Nintendo Switch during lockdown and was surprised at how well the Switch handled it. A new-gen upgrade is going to melt my eyes in comparison. Can't wait.
Maybe this is the best game of the last generation since it is magnificent and was launched everywhere, reaching to a large amount of players. I finish the game and DLCs three times by now, changing the combat style, finishing at the hardest dificulty (the best way to play this game) and exploring missed details. Really love the game and I am waiting the PS5 version to play again.
I am in the future, replaying this for the fourth time.
One time was enough for me.
It’s honestly like they’re trying to get the world record for being slow
Whilst it’s expected and fine, I find it funny they are selling the delay as a positive update for the anniversary.
@Pinkman Thanks for letting me know, man. Wow, that’s some praise! I’m definitely gonna man up and jump into Elden Ring once I’ve finished the HFW story. Any day now.
This is what i like about pc, if i have a low graphic card, then i can play the game at low resolution, but if i decide to get a better card, I don’t need to wait for cdpr to make any upgrades to enjoy the game at high-ultra settings. It’s a shame in consoles we have to wait for developer to update the game for better graphics, more fps, even if ps5 is already capable to do this.
a targeted q4 really means q1/q2 2023 right? i have the ps4 version in the shrink wrap, collecting dust. i guess i'll wait for the verdict on ps5 before i decide where to play it. i have my doubts cdpr will release the enchanced port bug free afterall. we might in fact be left with a version of the game that is far worse than the ps4 original.
@The_Pixel_King I'm in training for Elden Ring ...playing Lego Star Wars no need to get good as there is no challenge whatsoever. 😁😁😁
@Pinkman This is exactly why I'm playing Forbidden West before Elden Ring lol
Q4 2022 is fine by me! Still hoping we get a Witcher 1 remake and Witcher 2 remaster down the road though.
Masterpiece.
