Trails from Zero isn't out for another four months or so, but that won't stop NIS America from reminding us that it's coming. The RPG's got a new trailer that introduces its main cast of characters, otherwise known as the SSS — the Special Support Section. A ragtag group of peacekeepers, they're led by Lloyd Bannings — the game's protagonist.
If you're already familiar with the Trails games, then you'll know that developer Falcom is capable of penning some fantastic personalities. Strong characters are often the driving force behind The Legend of Heroes, and we fully expect Trails from Zero to be another masterclass in this regard.
Indeed, we have very high expectations for this one — as highlighted in our recent Trails from Zero preview. It's looking like a game that RPG fans won't want to miss.

Why in the world is it rated an 18? I’ve played the game from front to back and I genuinely cannot think why? There’s some quite adult content for an anime-styled game that deals with child sexual abuse but it’s not very graphic and is more hinted at. I guess they could have made it a bit more explicitly spelled out for the audience.
gonna be weird going back to trails in the sky type graphics after completing all trails of cold steel games
@nessisonett interesting as the ESRB has it rated T for teen. Maybe PEGI factoring in the potential cringe yet inevitable swimsuit DLC packs.
@Jayslow The cringe oversexualisation is basically absent in this game. Apart from the odd line from Randy, who’s quite literally randy, it’s a surprisingly mature JRPG.
@nessisonett maybe pegi automatically class anything with or hints at child abuse as an 18. Which would kinda make sense (to me anyway)
or it could be just a place holder until the actual release?
I'm almost finished (I think) with Trails in the Sky 3 in anticipation of Zero. Even though Sky 3 is probably my least favorite of the series I'm still enjoying it quite a bit. I'm still just happy this one is finally getting localized! Really looking forward to it!
I still have Trails Of Cold Steel 3 in its wrapping. As much as I enjoy the games by the time I finished Cold Steel 2 I was glad it was over as it seemed to be going on and on.
Gotta admit I like the graphic style of this over the Cold Steel games..
@Korgon I actually really liked Sky 3rd. It’s obviously very odd as it’s a straight dungeon crawler permeated by fanwankery but Kevin is a fun lead and the story with the darker edge was a nice change of pace from the more cartoony FC and SC.
@johnny30 Well, the sprite work is top notch, honestly. I hope the Orbal line system is more like Trails in the Sky, than Cold Steel...
@nessisonett
Yeah I agree it's still very good. It's funny how it feels like they had all this extra lore they wanted people to see and instead of doing like an encyclopedia type book with it like other series do Falcom decided to make a full game out of it with all the special doors and stuff.
My biggest criticism really is just some of the door stories, while interesting for the most part, are way too long. Sometimes by the time I return to Kevin and the crew I've completely forgotten where I was going! Like I said though still enjoying it for the most part!
@Korgon That’s also probably one of my few criticisms. Some of the door stories are way more interesting to the point that it overshadows the main story!
Currently playing through Trails in the Sky FC on my old laptop. Will be working my way through the series at a steady pace so as to not get burnt out. Will get to this one eventually.
@Wazeddie22 There's a really nice, cosy feel to these kinds of old graphical styles I think. It's very hard not to be nostalgic for them if you grew up with PS1 RPGs or earlier, in my opinion.
@nessisonett It's due to the gambling minigames. PEGI recently decided that any gambling, even with in game currency, would amount to an 18. The story got big because if they ever made an updated version of the original Pokemon Red/Blue, it would get and 18 rating (Note that this was not retroactive, so the 3DS eShop version stayed PEGI 12). There's nothing remotely close to getting it to that high of a rating otherwise.
@cjay_001 You’re absolutely right now that I think about it. Totally forgot that was a thing, thanks!
