We've heard very little about Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake since the last delay back in October. The fan favourite getting a modern coat of paint should be cause for celebration, but it's clearly been having issues behind the scenes. To try and get the project on track, Ubisoft Montréal has been called in to lead development.
Previously, the remake was being handled predominantly by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. While those teams will continue to contribute to the game, it's the Montréal studio that'll (hopefully) bring the game over the finish line. "This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic," reads the statement.
As far as we're aware, the game is pencilled in for a release sometime between now and March 2023. However, with a shift in dev duties, it's possible the game could be pushed back yet again. Obviously we'll have to wait and see how things shake out.

Considering when we first looked at it the game literally looked like a PS3 title, the extra polish time was definitely needed. The original is one of my favorite PS2 games so I'm hoping they get their crap together and make this an amazing experience.
Got a feeling this has gone back to the drawing board :/
Hoping this classic gets the proper treatment it deserves.
When this was first announced I was excited but since those first screenshots: the delays, and the long periods of silence, its dwindled to nothing
@Jacko11 I hope it is. the initial trailer was horrible.
Yeh I was excited about Prince of Persia in the late 80’s but now 0%
That's not a good sign for the team that previously led development. If I remember correctly this was supposed to be their first game. That's too bad but at least they aren't just sending it out to die. Hopefully it gets back on track.
They should just scrap this and do an entirely new and updated true remake or new title in the franchise.
What we saw of this looked like very minimal upgrades to visuals.
This franchise in an updated setting has a ton of potential. However, I do not think UBISOFT in its current state, could ever make it happen.
I’m so glad. It looked terrible before. It was going to kill the series. Now it’ll get a proper remake that will stand up and reinvigorate the series. The power of complaining has won and I’m glad, because neither us nor Ubisoft was going to like the outcome that would have come.
ubisoft is good for nothing.
@KundaliniRising333 I get the feeling that’s kinda what’s happening. They’re taking over to do a proper remake so I doubt we’ll see this until 2024.
Ubisoft doesn't care about PoP. It will silently fall under table. And if it, by some miracle, will release it will be huge flop.
I love PoP games since my 386 PC, so I hope it won't release...
Honestly I thought this had been and gone. Great to hear that Ubisoft have taken over control of it though, it…should..be…fine. Hahaha I’m sorry. Yesyes.
This is good news. Ubisoft Montreal is one of Ubisoft's most flagship studios that's much bigger and has much more resources than Ubi Pune or Mumbai. Plus a more experienced team and maybe if we're lucky having a couple of people who worked on the original trilogy certainly wouldn't hurt the remake.
I hope they scrapped everything and started over. The original reveal trailer was horrid.
Very funny, I pre-ordered this game 1 1/2 years ago at GameStop over 9,99 with trading 1 game. I hope, when this game comes out, GameStop still exists.
I was starting to worry the game wouldn't include enough NFTs. This is reassuring!
Last week i was at Gamestop and they had this game listed as being out December something on some papers and i said so this game is actually coming out, they said yeah if it doesnt get pushed back again. I dont think this game will come out until 2024.
"we'll update you in a future update" - Yay!
I like the middle paragraph of their statement too - the art of saying nothing in so many words.
I liked the Sand Of Time trilogy a lot, finished each game at least 4-5 times back in the day. Here's hoping they get do it justice in the end, even if the Remake will be released in 2023 or beyond. The franchise deserves a proper comeback (dare I say Reboot? Time will tell ).
AC origins was the last Ubisoft game I played and lost interest in them after that. Their push in live service and open world is so not the Ubisoft I fell in love as a child. I miss the games that made them great: splinter cell, prince of persia, beyond good & evil, Rayman. Such a disappointment when all you care about is money and pump out as many games as possible.
So essentially they set up a new studio in Mumbai and give them their first major project to prove themselves…the team is so proud of what they’ve done and achieved BUT it doesn’t go down well with the gamers. The graphics and what they showed looked more like an upscaled version of the original with some tweaks.
So they went back to work on something they thought was near completed and spent so much more time and resources in it to try and prove themselves. Sadly it has proven they ain’t up to the task and maybe Mumbai isn’t the best place to have a leading team.
I’m sure they had some good artists on the team but had this been done by the Montreal team from the start this might have been out a lot sooner and potentially a second game on the way.
good , the first version of the remake was bad. it deserves a much better effort.
I'm considering this remake vaporware until the game has gone gold at this point...
This is good news it is a truly great game and deserves a PROPER remaster. Surprising from Ubisoft, I wonder how much money they have thrown down the drain on this.
Meanwhile I do feel for the devs at Pune and Mumbai, this is a very public slap in the face. Hopefully a great learning experience for the team, who will come back stronger from the adversity.
