Assassin's Creed Origins is free to download and play this weekend on PS4, and PS5 via backwards compatibility. The open world title first released back in 2017, pulling the franchise in a new direction with a huge map and RPG elements, like character levels, skill trees, and loot. Origins is still widely considered to be one of the best games in the series, boasting an emotionally-charged story and a truly memorable Egyptian setting.
What's more, Origins recently received a PS5 update, allowing the game to run at 60 frames-per-second (it's 30 on PS4 and PS4 Pro). We actually went back to Origins to try it out, and it's still a fantastic title. Compared to sequels Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Origins feels much more focused in its design. We'd highly recommend trying it out over this free weekend if you're unfamiliar.
It's a pretty big download though, weighing in at around 50GB or so. The free play period starts on the 16th June, and ends on the 20th June.

I love how Ubi always does this. Would be cool if more companies did the same.
Might try it. Then if I like it get it at CEX. £8 with £5 trade back. Can’t go wrong for £3. To their credit, the gold edition is on sale for £15 until the 22nd, should someone get involved over the weekend then not be able to wait to get a physical copy (although they’ve removed the standard edition from sale digitally).

Game is a bit too long for that amount of time but still nice nonetheless
That is a generous amount of time. More than enough to figure out if you like it, and just enough time to beat the main campaign if you power through.
It's on Game Pass. Nuff said
Compared to Kassandra, Bayek is about as exciting as Michael Owen.
@ApostateMage Bayek is as interesting as watching a snail marathon, but Origins story is slightly more interesting than Odyssey.
Of course, I just upgraded to PS Plus Extra yesterday. Too many games to choose from and not enough time. Maybe I can squeeze a few hours in between runs of Returnal and my first try at Dead Cells.
@NeThZOR AC: Valhalla is on PS Extra/Premium . Nuff said.
Damn I am away so not gonna try it. I was waiting for the Ps5 patch forever to buy it, but now with PS plus premium I will never ever buy any games, ever.
@ApostateMage Kassandra is like Michael Owen's daughter to Bayek's Michael Owen. If not only for the love island memes
Anyone know the answer to this; I’ve got the trial, love it but it’s now £50 on PS Store but £8 at a shop in town. Will progress from the digital free trial transfer to a physical copy? Thanks!
