It was announced ages ago, but now we're finally getting a glimpse of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — the anime based around the world of Cyberpunk 2077. To be clear, this isn't a retelling of the open world RPG, but it is set in Night City, and fans of the game are surely going to spot some crossover when it comes to locales, stylisations, and cybernetic implants.
Anyway, the anime looks very promising indeed in the teaser trailer embedded above. It's been in the works for roughly four years, with acclaimed Japanese animation outfit Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Darling in the Franxx, SSSS Gridman) at the helm. Hiroyuki Imaishi is credited as director, having previously spearheaded Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann. It's even got Akira Yamaoka — famed Silent Hill composer — doing the music.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is coming to Netflix as a ten-episode series this September. Think you'll be watching it? Start chipping in in the comments section below.

I'll certainly check it out in September, it looks impressive. I wonder if they will try and get the DLC ready for when this is on.
It does looks really cool. Now I kind of want a JRPG set in the Cyberpunk universe. That would be awesome!
Nothing in that trailer looks like it's first person, which is good, b/c I was worried how Hardcore Henry was going to look as an anime.
I enjoyed The Witcher 3 and I like cyberpunk but first person has never clicked really with me so I skipped the game.
Why don’t Sony have anime made for they’re games. Sony own all theses anime companies but don’t use them to help they’re PlayStation brand.
This looks great! There are lots of cool stories to tell in Mike Pondsmiths world.
Also would love an anime based off of 2020 with a retrofuturistic 80's anime style like Akira or wicked city.
Oh it's done by Studio Trigger? Guess I'll have to check it out, I love their work.
@Deadlyblack I can see that.
Studio Trigger can make some brilliant anime. I'm particularly fond of Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia. This is something that I'll be sure to check out.
I like this better then the game thats for sure.
Art style reminds me of 80s anime. Can't wait. Hopefully it works on current gen routers.
Shame articles keep forgetting to mention Gurren Lagan when studio Trigger's name pops up. It's an amazing anime. Glad u guys did. Looking forward to this though, is it feature length or a series? I'm hoping series would really like to see night city explored. I spent most of my playthrough murdering everyone that was murderable as revenge for the bugs.
@Korgon I'd totally be down for a 3rd person Cyberpunk JRPG! Fingers crossed we get one eventually.
@4kgk2 You would think so wouldn't you? Here's hoping we do get more anime eventually.
I'm sure I'll check it out. There is some great anime talent behind it.
