Sword and Fairy: Together Forever, the long-running RPG franchise based on Chinese mythology, finally has a Western release date: it's coming to PS5 and PS4 on 4th August, in addition to a new trailer showing off some of the game's gorgeous environments.
From the gameplay we've seen previously, Sword and Fairy: Together Forever looks like it's going to be something pretty special, and a change of pace for Western audiences. The Sword and Fairy series, also known as Chinese Paladin, began all the way back in 1995, and Together Forever will be the ninth instalment in the franchise.

9? What happened to 7 and 8? 6 is on PS4 in the west.
Edit: No, I'm pretty sure this one is the English console release of Sword and Fairy 7. The logo is the same and the screenshots all look to be from the same game.
@Milktastrophe Just the ninth instalment in the series, Together Forever is apparently 7, and you are right 6 is already on the PS4. I'm not really sure why they wanted to change up the naming convention now!
@Khayl I see what you mean now. They had two 3's and two 5's so 7 is the ninth game. Weird numbering perhaps, but we didn't miss two in between at least!
I'm excited for this, but is it going to be super grindy? And will there be a lot of interaction with NPCS?
I can't wait for this. Huge softstar fan. Check out Xuan Yuan Sword 7 if you haven't.
@AndyKazama Xuan Yuan Sword 7 was really good if rough around the edges. I'm super excited for this game, we need more Chinese games in these veins.
@Recover20 definitely, at least here in the west, stories based on Chinese mythology are new to us and fresh, and there's so much to explore.
Despite the jank I found myself glued to Sword and Fairy 6 as the story was so good
looks super pretty! I'm loving the art style. I wasn't aware of this franchise at all but I think I'll give this one a look. Like other people have said, chinese mythology is rich and beautiful and not really a thing in the western gaming industry. I'm always up for a departure from traditional western fantasy, as much as I love it it does get a bit old
Lots of panning through pretty but empty environments. Trailer didn't have much to show.
Does this have a Japanese audio option? For some reason I find Chinese language to be too fast and off putting in games
Been looking forward to trying this series, so this is good to see.
Is this game a good starting point in this series. I'd hate to be confused in the game because of earlier games in the series.
Good game. Played it on PC. Glad to see it on PS, hope we get more games like this from China.
I would recommend playing it on PS5. Maxed out on PC it looks fantastic and the combat deserves the fps.
Looks interesting, the setting is unique, the graphics are good and the music is oddly relaxing, if the gameplay is good I'll get this one.
This looks interesting. A fresh world and story is always welcome.
