Summer Game Fest's live showcase is coming up very soon, with many enthusiasts excited to see what Geoff Keighley has up his sleeve. The presenter and producer, known for creating The Game Awards in addition to this fairly new summer presentation, wants all eyes on this Thursday's event, and has been drumming up excitement over the last few weeks. However, the hype merchant has somewhat backtracked, instructing people to keep expectations in check.
Speaking in a Twitter Spaces session, Keighley went over some of the content confirmed for Summer Game Fest so far. He name-drops a handful of games we know are coming to the show, but emphasises that the event will be "primarily focused on stuff that is announced". In other words, we're not getting too many big, surprise new game announcements.
"We’ve got a couple of new game announcements in the show and hopefully some surprises if everything holds," Keighley says, but urges fans to "definitely manage your expectations in terms of the megaton shocks that you’re expecting".
He continues: "We’ve got lots of good stuff to show you but buyer beware of some of the crazy rumours I’m seeing out there in terms of things people expect to get announced".
So, while it sounds like we should be in for a fun show, Summer Game Fest's focus is on updates to already announced games, with one or two brand new announcements sprinkled in. Your guess is as good as ours as far as what those are.
Anyway, are you looking forward to Summer Game Fest? What are you realistically expecting to see after Geoff's comments? Discuss in the comments section below.

I already had none so that won't be difficult 😜
When Keighley says that. Oh boy, lol.
@dschons Just what I was thinking, considering he's usually pushing the hype. That said I appreciate that he's trying to correctly set expectations.
The mascot of Summer Games Fest should be a blue penguin.
Guess no god of war release date
Sometimes it leaves space for some really cool indies to get some space and hype. I still wonder whether we might see some elden ring dlc at the summer gamesfest.
Don't worry, Geoff, I don't have any expectations to begin with
@Goat_FromBOTW Yeah, and the mascot for state of play should be Blue Ball Man (last one was an exception to the rule)
Well I got my Final Fantasy XVI trailer from the last State of Play so I'm good. I don't have much expectation other than anything about FFXVI or FF7R pt.2.
Well I kind of got all I was desperately wanting to see in the State of Play last week so it's cool. I still think it will be a good show just not a surprisingly good show.
"No, but really, guys, Summer Games Fest sucks, don't expect much from it, it's not like this is E3 or anything."
-Geoff Keighley
All I’m interested in at the moment is PSVR2 details. Too much to ask for ABRM2 I know, but more footage from already announced games would be good enough for me.
I'm really not clear on who is sponsoring Summer Games Fest. Can someone help me out with that?
I just want a release date for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, A Plague Tale Requiem, and the new Dark Pictures entry.
A couple new reveals would be enough for me, but I think the Xbox showcase will also have some multiplatform announcements as well.
Ouch, when you know how the guy loves to hype up things he produce, you know we're in for a very lame series of summer announcements...
So, it is going to be a bunch of celebrities and Geoff acting like he is some AAA movie star and relishing in his glory for 90 minutes.
So basically what he's saying is don't bother staying up late then!
@Americansamurai1 Not necessarily. He's saying not to expect many unannounced games. GoW release date could show up.
@Americansamurai1 I think this is actually going to happen as much as we want to play GOW it's not like the release date is going to break the internet. We have seen so much of the game by this point that the release date is only going to be hype for those who really are into.
I love this beauty of a photo you used for Geoff.
What i expect to see in that show is the new game from starcraft ex devs, gow release date that i believe is very possible and Kimberly trailer for Street Fighter 6 (because that would mean more info about more characters at EVO).
Hyper decreasing? More like hype totally gone.
I was hoping this show could be something special in place of E3 but atleast he warned us before the show lol
I will forever read that man’s name as “Gee Off” before correcting myself for the 100th time 🤦🏻♂️
Makes sense to temper expectations. The gaming community can be so toxic so nobody wants to be on the receiving end of abuse for overhyping. By limiting expectations, if the event does blow some people away unexpectedly then that’s a huge win. If it’s not good, well, we told you it wouldn’t be that good.
I’m really excited about the show and I actually quite like Geoff. I find him charming, in a weird way.
Only thing I'm hoping for is a GoW release date trailer. Someone said Sony could use the opportunity to hype the new Plus service with it launching a few days after SGF. Especially if GoW is on Plus"s game trials.
In other words: Curb Your Enthusiasm.
God of War gameplay to close the show!!!
i've said this plenty of times , so many places post so many fake rumors just to get people to come to their site it sucks these days. honestly people need to stop giving fake rumors too much attention because they spread so quickly and people are quick to believe everything these days.
I think it goes without saying after last year. Outside of the Elden Ring gameplay reveal, im hard pressed to remember anything from that show at all.
Kaio-hype x20!!!
Maybe they’re busy killing that dastardly PS4 off. Clingy son of a gun
LoL:D He must have watched SONY's 'State of Play' & thought 'We can NEVER beat that' (same for Microsoft's yearly (watching paint dry) show to that is on soon to)
Well yeah. The current state of the industry is not good.
@Keyblade-Dan
Yeah I've had almost zero hype this gen. Couldn't care less. Such a shame to see my hobby go down the drain like this.
Though Hogwarts did make me feel like a kid again! That game looks like some serious old school fun! Reminds me of Bully in a sense. A scale you'd expect from a sequel to Bully. Add to that the flying and boy am I hyped!
Why bother watching it then lol I'm just going to watch the Xbox & Bethesda showcase on Sunday & then wait for Sony to announce god of war Ragnaroks release date
@BoldAndBrash there'll be a mission where you raid the girls dormitory for panties as a nod to bully ... Obviously jk lol
well, my interest went down to 0
Dude moaned and groaned until E3 went away, he got the keys to the kingdom and has completely flopped. Nintendo bailed on him, Sony sends some scraps and the rest is just live service updates. Feels like gaming is in a weird place where we can't even get to be hyped for shows anymore.
Announcements and shows used to be about big things, that was the point of having them. Now we’re being told to forget that and what we’re going to get is mostly lower quality stuff and fewer decent releases and fewer still big releases. That’s modern gaming for ya. AAA high quality releases are becoming fewer and fewer. That’s what happens when you focus on recycling games and cash grabs like mobile games and online gaming because people support them like it’s not going to cause a flood in the market of decreasing quality
@themightyant Agreed, gotta respect the man for being so upfront beforehand about what we should expect.
Here's hoping we still get at least 1 handful of surprise announcements though.
@BeerIsAwesome Game Pass really lives rent free in some of you guys heads huh.
I really miss E3 so I'm glad at least Keighley is trying to get something the industry can center around. But I don't think we will ever have those 3 crazy days of none stop excitement again. For me E3 was bigger than Xmas
Lol.
I can’t remember a time when I’ve been less excited for games coming soon.
It’s like the industry forgot to make good games I wonder when they’ll remember good games are at the heart of this industry and not subscription models. Even sub models need good new games. I can see a industry reboot coming up. The FTP dollars won’t last forever
@HeeHo many of us have gamepass. What did he say that’s wrong? I’m as critical of now/whatever they call this new thing…..
This is a terrible year for exclusives for Xbox and not much. Better for Sony as it stands.
Microsoft will aggressive trying and fill the holes in the GPU calendar with 3rd party games. At least anyone like me who subs will hope they do. I don’t pay them for nothing. A sub model only works if you give strong content every month
Coming from the guy who a few months ago hyped an event as having, "five announcements the scale of GOW" and then proceeded to announce bugger all, my expectations really are low.
@Stocksy Thanks for further prooving my point.
@HeeHo no pointed proved. I own an Xbox XSX, a ps5 and a switch OLED and sub to all three services. I’ll comment as a customer as I like. Sounds like you are a salty xbox only chap. Head off to a green only website if you don’t like people commenting on services they are customers of. Nothing I said was wrong.
