Sony has leaked what appears to be its big Summer Game Fest announcement – and there was only hours left to go! The Last of Us: Part I is a remake of the original game in the series, and will launch on PS5 on 2nd September. It’s a full-price, $69.99 release.
We have, of course, known that PlayStation was working on a remake of the PS3 original The Last of Us for some time. The project apparently started at Sony’s Visual Arts Service Group, before being brought in-house at Naughty Dog. It’s one of many projects that the platform holder will use to capitalise on HBO’s upcoming television show. A standalone multiplayer spin-off is also in the works.

“Experience the emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters of Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us, winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards and now rebuilt for PS5,” an official blurb on Sony’s PS Direct storefront reads. “Enjoy a total overhaul of the original experience, faithfully reproduced but incorporating modernised gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options. Plus, feel immersed with improved effects and enhanced exploration and combat.”
The game will include the full original campaign and the Left Behind prequel chapter. It’s also in development for PC. You can watch the debut trailer on the PS Direct site – or, perhaps, wait until Summer Game Fest, where this was supposed to debut.

Sony: "Screw it, we'll leak it ourself"
I’ll probably play it. And probably enjoy it on a base level if the gameplay’s good. The story did my head in anyway.
Been a while since Sony leaked something this badly, I bet Geoff's pleased!
Think it will be more of a remaster not expecting much from this. Updated visuals
Geoff when everything of his Show leaks early:
🫠🫠🫠
So this is a full remake right? And they’ll add The Last of Us Part II’s gunplay and stealth right?
Because if it’s a remaster I’m not interested.
Sounds like it's just the single player (including Left Behind). No multiplayer.
@Ryany I'd hope for more, otherwise that'd just be a patched version of the PS4 remaster...
Ideally they'll be remaking the whole thing in the Part 2 engine.
Can't wait, if God of war comea out this year too than this will be the great year ever for Sony games
Still pointless imo. $70 for it too? Lol. I'll gladly stick to the PS4 remaster, it still plays perfectly fine!
@Ryany when it’s made in the same version of the engine as the second part (or even never) this could be interesting.
Is it me, or have they made Joel smaller in the box-art?
The PS4 version was so good though I'm interested to see what they've done with the PS5 version. 60fps will be nice.
Visually it looks a good upgrade from the original but it also looked to be fundamentally the same game, so its not worth £70 for me, maybe cheap in a sale later
@MS7000 Shrunk his shoulders… makes him look soft
The remaster no one wanted
The missing piece of the puzzle, the Steam Deck truly is going to be the Vita successor people hoped for.
@IAmAshCohen17 PS4 version is already 60fps on PS5
@IAmAshCohen17 the remaster of the first game runs 1800p 60 fps already.
Interested to see a trailer for this. I think that will tell me how keen I am on this
@carlos82 Ahh, I didn't know this. I haven't played it on the PS5. been a couple of years since I touched it.
In that case, I am interested to see what the PS5 version brings then, other than dualsense support. 4K/60? RT mode perhaps, guess we will find out for proper this evening
Really like that box art
There's also a trailer on the Playstation Direct site. (weirdly took a while for it to load and i'm on 1GB internet speed - presuming back end site management panicking trying to take it down xD)
Ofc looks alot cleaner and higher framerate version of the game. But i'm hoping it wasn't too big a team doing this remaster at ND. Would prefer new, original content from them and this (to me at least) seems a waste of resources.
But I am sure this will sell like crazy.
Sony took the page down.
Edit: article has been updated to add the cover art, so removing from my post.
@IAmAshCohen17
The PS4 version ran at a locked 60fps.
The only way I’m buying this is if it’s a from the ground up remake in the TLOU2 engine with the gunplay and stealth from that game, as well as the enemy AI enhancements, added to it. Otherwise the PS4 version still suffices
I'll probably get TLoU again on a third console, but I'll be waiting for a deep sale. It's getting to be a bit like Skyrim - "we'll stop re-making it once you stop buying it".
This is Sony's version of GTA lol
PS3 release, PS4 release, PS5 release
@theGoodChap seems ridiculous to me unless they've changed the game somewhat but it looks very similar Capcom are giving us 3 free upgrades for Resident Evil games and Sony are charging $/£70 unless there's an upgrade path to be announced.
So for newcomers its either the original at 1800p 60fps for less than a tenner or £70 for a prettier version and improved controls.
If they have redesigned the gameplay areas I may feel differently as The Last of Us 2 didn't just have better controls but also more open areas to take advantage of them
If there is an upgrade path that is not $70 I'll get this. But as is, not paying again for a game that actually is not that outdated at all.
Overpriced. Sony would do well in the PR dept to release this straight onto PS+ extra/premium.
@theGoodChap
If it is actually running in Part 2’s engine with the enhanced physics, gunplay, stealth, and enemy AI improvements plus all new art assets in it then till be worth 70.
But if it’s just a basic remaster then it’s not even worth 50. Maybe 40 at the most.
$70 dollar's for less content no multiplayer than the current remaster is ridiculous
$70!? 😂 I don't have to play it to know it will be inferior at least in the story department (if they change anything) to my PS4 version that already looks and plays beautifully. What a waste of resources that could have gone to something new and fresh.
I will play this when it comes to PS+ extra
Yassssssss!!!!
That will do nicely for Christmas alongside Harry Potter and GoW.
Y'know I never finished the original Last of Us and I haven't started on Part 2 yet.
Looks like I know what I'm doing this fall.
Ok I missed one key part of the description.
“With modernized controls and gameplay.”
Perhaps it actually is worth it. Because that would mean they rebuilt it in Part II’s engine.
For all the flak Part II’s story gets (and trust me I agree with the criticism) it is the best playing third person shooter with stealth mechanics ever made.
It was the opposite of the first one for me. The first game had a mesmerizing story, but it felt like a more clumsy version of Uncharted to actually play. Part II’s story is dramatically weaker than Part I’s, but the gameplay enhancements were so dramatic that when I tried to replay the first game about a year ago I had to stop. I couldn’t go back to it after playing Part II’s stellar gunplay and stealth mechanics.
I can see the graphical enhancements immediately from the trailer. It looks fantastic.
@Deadlyblack
You’re in for a treat.
I will warn you that Part II’s plot has some serious pacing and story beat problems. But the gameplay is so sublime that it makes up for it.
Il be getting this bit I'm wondering how much of Part 2 will have tainted this for me knowing what happens to Joel and Ellie. Gameplay wise its gonna be the same but with the jump and prone abilities from part 2, probably the mechanic where npcs call out each other by name.
I played TLOU recently and enjoyed it, I don't think it needs a remake but I don't mind it exciting. But that pricing is ridiculous
lame. plain and simple. Just lame.
Make no mistake, this game runs on the PS4, they just cant make the scheme work if they release it a second time on the old console, regardless of it simply using TLOU2 engine/visuals.
Thats what we have for the rest of the year lmfao.... a remaster of a remaster... at full price.
Keep buying into this garbage trend, and we and the entire industry suffer for it.
Sigh. Naughty Dog. The Last of Us. Just take my money! I don't care if it's 70 or 80$. Yes, I know I'll get crucified for this but I don't care. Their games are the only ones I buy day one.
@nessisonett Yeah so you keep on saying and I'm still not sure why, but then again you didn't like the story in HZD either.
🤷
Yeah, I'll play it....at some point. Seems to be of more interest to PC gamers than anybody else. Look forward to all their character mods.
🤦
So we have the original, ps4 remaster and now this.
When ps6 comes around the developers come to your house and hit you with a brick themselves?
Trailer does look good but really hope it comes down in price quickly. Been on sale for under £10 so many times and now practically given away on PS Plus, PS Collection etc. I can't pay £70, I have a family to feed....
@gollumb82 Sigh me too
@OrtadragoonX just read the article. It's a remake
Please Remaster it on PS6 in a few years. Than it's The Last of Us 1 on 4 Playstation systems😂
Sony: Now on next gen not only will we remaster old games, but will go a step further and remake a remaster that no one asked for. The Last of Us: GTA5 Edition
Such a lack of creativity. Just bleeding this game completely dry.
Its crazy to think their are people out there that are foolish enough to pay 70 dollars for this.
This is just so so lazy. I hope it flops because it'll open the floodgates to 'remakes' being brought out for games just a few years old.
Our society is truly becoming creatively bankrupt in both movies and games. I honestly can't understand how someone would pay full price again for a game they already own but slightly updated
Jim Ryan is on a Mission to dilute the PlayStation brand forever with bringing every PlayStation Exclusiveto PC :-/
I’m down. The original might be my favorite game of all time and I play through ~once a year. Now I’ll just be playing a better version once a year. Can’t wait!
I’m absolutely stoked for this.
Im really looking forward to this. I just hope they haven’t adjusted the story and removed the ambiguity from the original 🙏
The trailer leaked as well
@Nintendo4Sonic I have decided I am only buying the game on even numbered PS consoles. I'll pay the extra £80 premium at that point.
A pc port would make sense but a remake taking away from the original story is yike from me 🧐
Wait, I'm too high right now. Are they splitting tlou remake into two parts?
The most pointless remake ever. Is there a collector's edition? Cause I'll take the collector's edition and play the hell out of it.
@PhhhCough TLoU2 is actually called "part 2", so this is the remake of the original.
I absolutely loved this game. These devs rarely put a foot wrong and I expect this will look and play fantastically, so im pretty happy to see this. As long as the core tale remains intact, ill be happy 😊
@Blaze215
It depends on how far they went.
If it has all of the gameplay advancements of Part II, then that’s a good remake worth doing.
I can’t even play the first game anymore after having played Part II. It was a dramatic leap forward in the gameplay department and it’s hard to go back. When I want to experience Part I now, I just watch the fan cut “film” of it on YouTube.
what a joke! money grab anyone .. lol...Good on Sony I guess to get those suckers to pay for this
@OrtadragoonX Have you played Metal Gear 5?
I've never played a Last of Us game. This seems like a good place to start. Stoked it has Left Behind and no multiplayer it seems.
Awesome! Can’t wait to play the original with amazing graphics and the updated gameplay.
Time to go prone, baby!
So activison releasing a two gen new game for $70 is bad yeh ? But release a old game thats been out twice before and add a few enhancements for $70 is great ? People are nuts
PlayStation fanboys circa 2012: Nintendo and Microsoft just release the same games over and over again. It's all Mario and Halo!
PlayStation fanboys now: I'm excited to buy and play literally the same game a THIRD time in a decade.
Nintendo fanboys now: Why won't Nintendo let me buy Super Mario World for a 10th time? WHY DON'T YOU LIKE MONEY, NINTY!?
Xbox fanboys: ...Why am I here?
Was going to pass but now I've seen the box art 🤣 probably gonna buy it.
@JJ2
I don’t see them messing with the story much. That’s why the game was so beloved in the first place.
At most I suspect that in the early game when Joel and Ellie first meet he will probably act like more of a jerk to her when she’s trying to learn about him and asking him questions. Which honestly would strengthen the story to me. For someone who suffered what he suffered and did what he did to survive for twenty years, he seemed a little too easy on her most of the time. Most dudes with such severe PTSD don’t take kindly to prying into their experience unless they offer to tell you first.
Did I think a remake was necessary? No. Will I still buy it at full price? Yes. Silly me, lol.
It's time Naughty Dog moved into a new franchise. They are getting left behind by other Sony studios.
@Voltan There is actually!
@dschons Yep! Exact same sentiment here.
@RoomWithaMoose at least PlayStation has games this year what Xbox have coming this year.
So I just watched the trailer and I don’t know why but I expected it to look radically different from the original (like completely remade with new character models and environments). Is it really a remake or a remaster of the remaster with updated gameplay? Looking forward to replaying it either way 😁
I think we can now definitively say that first party exclusives are over and PS5 will have none during the course of the generation.
Bold of them to reveal the PC version already, they really must not care that it dissuades people from getting PS5s anymore. Interested to see how this plays out for them because I for one have no desire to get a PS5 at all now.
I’m looking forward to this. I’ve waited to replay the second one on my PS5 in the hole that this news was true. I’ll play them both back to back now hopefully with Factions 2 not too far behind! Two of my favourite ever games
@BReal I wanted it. Even though it's unnecessary, I f-ing adore both TLoU and Naughty Dog's work.
It absolutely irks me that we got this before a Bloodborne patch, remake or sequel
@Shepherd_Tallon They've got us by the balls, lol. But I bet it'll be worth it. ND never disappoints. There's worse than paying for and replaying one of the best games ever made. Hogwarts Legacy, GoW and TLOU remake this year?! Sign me the f up, haha
@truerbluer It's coming to PC later.
@Suda51ueda
Yes. Played the hell out of it.
MGSV is a stealth game with action as the secondary. The CQC and pure stealth was top of its class.
TLOU Part II has dramatically better gunplay, though. And the way it mixed heavy gunplay and stealth together was what sucked me in. It was insanely fun transitioning from one to the next and back again. Making up stupid plans on the fly.
Both games give you a ton of freedom in how to play them. But the gunplay of TLOU Part II and a more comfortable control scheme puts it over it for me.
@truerbluer
I think it depends on if one already has a gaming rig or not and are willing to invest the money.
To build a PS5 equivalent PC has very high start up costs. About 1500 bucks roughly depending on the mass fluctuation of GPU pricing.
There’s a bunch of people who don’t want to deal with it.
@get2sammyb It won't be much later, probably 2 years tops, not long enough to buy a whole console for it.
They should use the resources in DLC story content for Part II instead.
@IAmAshCohen17 VR2 edition, Toaster edition, PC remake edition,
@OrtadragoonX The Last of Us 2 is massively underrated as a third-person shooter. People seem to associate storytelling with crap gameplay, but it's just not true. TLoU2 is comfortably one of the best-playing TPS ever made.
Hmm… I do wonder if this would be a rare day 1 drop onto the PS+ Extra service. Surely they don’t plan on selling a lot of these…? Unless there is new content or its somehow linked to Factions 2. Like maybe there’s at least access to the Factions 2 beta for purchasers of the game or something like that. Or some kind of free tokens for use with the multiplayer. Something.
If Sony can promise that someday they will have an 8K resolution update patch then maybe I will buy it. I’m saying this because it’s a remake or re-remaster.
This is worse than Skyrim. Easily.
Seems like it's something between a proper remake and a remaster. I doubt they spent much time on it, based on the description anyway.
@Th3solution I think you're grossly underestimating this. They absolutely expect to sell a lot of copies.
(Beta for the multiplayer is possible, though!)
I'll definitely play it at some point, as I loved the remaster on PS4 and was blown away by part 2.
Would be nice if we see other Sony stuff at tonight's show though. We will see!
@get2sammyb
It really is underrated. The gameplay is sublime. And as much as I hate to say it (because I don’t care for the character), Abby’s gameplay for the second half of the game is where it really proved just how expert ND is at crafting third person shooters with light stealth mechanics. Her entire arc has superb combat scenarios at every turn. Ellie’s are good too, but they are overall the weaker half of the game.
And the story, while it has some severe issues, isn’t terrible. There’s games with far worse stories and plot design than TLOU2. It just has to be compared to its predecessor’s story, which was literally flawless with its objective, pacing, and plot design. It was never going to live up to it.
I'll definitely buy it.
Most useless remake ever.
It doesn't even look that much better than the PS4 version, it's not what I'd call a night and day difference. And it's certainly not worth £70 based on the upgrades.
@Richnj
At least it looks like their significantly upgrading the gameplay for this.
Skyrim is literally the same game in every release. And all the console versions are still far inferior to the PC OG release.
@4kgk2 Heck if I know. Not too relevant to my comment... I'm guessing Xbox will have something to show this Sunday. I'm hoping for a Gears Collection, ironically.
If we're just comparing the big 3, Xbox currently doesn't have anything. But that's liable to change in a few days. PlayStation hardly has anything. But their early year output was decent and there are more and more 9th gen 3rd-parties compensating (that really goes for Xbox too.) And Nintendo has a pretty good year, but is lacking that heavy hitter.
@IAmAshCohen17 At least this is actually getting meaningful visual and gameplay enhancements. GTAV doesn’t even look all that much better than the PS3 version.
@get2sammyb I really enjoyed TLoU2 not as much as the original, Abby got on my nerves a little though. Great character in a way to attract so much heat as the villain on message boards.
I just think that ending could have been so much better though. Poor Ellie.
Honestly can't wait! A great game and now better. Really don't see the harm.
@Col_McCafferty It was probably more groundbreaking back in 2013. Coming later on to the game might have made it seem a bit less special. It must have been impressive on the PS3 at the time though, it definitely held up on the PS4.
gosh dang it 3rd time il buy it 😂 and hell why not il buy it on Steam and see how much more bang i can get out of it lol
@get2sammyb
“Later” in this case likely means less than six months. They probably wouldn’t be announcing this for PC right now otherwise.
Day-and-date on PC is coming soon. This is just yet another stepping stone towards it.
So I pause my obsessive Push Square checking for the latest gaming news. You know, to instead cook some dinner, do a few chores and maybe play a game... And look what happens! 😂
@OrtadragoonX
Respectfully disagree. Joel was great in the original.
Already there was too much unjustified hate for the character. (I believe they picked up on it and found a good idea if he became a villain) With what they made of him in part 2 I fear indeed they’ll make him a horrible character. Joel was as in the original, one of the best iconic PS character and an absolute badass regarding gameplay.
They’ll also probably make those fanatic fireflies and their mengele look like heros.
And they ll go full on with the ridiculous take of Ellie being a chosen one whereas the original let room for rational explanation.
Ahem
NO FACTION TROPHIES
Thanks.
Not sure what the hype is we need new games not remakes
£70 for 4k & 60 frames of an old game shame on you sony
@get2sammyb the gameplay was good but the storyline was absolutely abysmal a real chore to get through. I love the first game hated the 2nd
I've heard that about halfway through this newer version, you start to play as Tess's uncle's step sister who wants revenge for something probably Joel did.
Maybe my eyes are getting bad but honestly it doesn't look that much better than the remaster. Granted I am watching on my phone so maybe that's the issue but from a glance...looks really unnecessary but at least it comes out soon so it's out of the way.
September is dedicated to Trails from Zero for myself anyway. Maybe on a steep sale or a super cheap upgrade I'll bite but I'll pass for launch.
Cool.looks amazing.definetly getting it.word up son
@OrtadragoonX I disagree, I mean we're not talking about some outdated game, it still holds up just fine today. Of course part 2 will improve gameplay wise but I really don't understand why you cant play the first one because it's not the exact same as part 2.
Again I think leaving it alone will be better for games in general as other games will be released like this if it's successful which will stagnate the market
It just feels so bizarre to me to remake a game that's only 9 years old, that's also already been remastered.
I love The Last of Us (parts I and II), but it just feels like Sony's first-party resources could have been better utilized.
With all that being said though, I'm sure this will end up selling a ton, especially with the HBO show on the horizon. A full $70 USD price feels a bit steep too. Hopefully the improvements go further than just a graphical overhaul.
@OrtadragoonX I mean in terms of re-releasing. I try to be fair with VR and Switch releases since they are different markets, and just try to look at it from a generation and version type. Skyrim had a full price remaster and a free upgrade. TLOU is a full price remaster and a full price remake. So far my top five worst offenders are;
1) Resident Evil 4
2) The Last of Us Part 1
3) Grand Theft Auto 5
4) Skyrim
5) and I don't know, let's say Doom.
It doesn't look all that different than the remastered PS4 version to me, which has been super cheap for years.
$70 for this, lol. Shadow of the Colossus got a full remake a few years back that looked amazing, and it was priced at $40.
Here’s the link to the trailer
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tawAlJLzx-Y
@Voltan ooooh, gotcha. Thanks
@Korgon your eyes are perfectly fine. Calling it a “remake” instead of “remaster” just makes it easier for them to justify $70 bucks.
@truerbluer A remake of a nine year old game coming to PC is hardly the death knell for future PS5 exclusives...
I anxiously await the official reveal, but there are three things certain in life: Death, taxes, and Naughty Dog games being masterpieces.
I will play it at some point just not for $70
Sony already was irritating with $70 games this gen. But $70 for a remake of a game that didn’t even need one is an absolute joke. Pass.
I loved tlou but paying full price for a game I've already bought then bought said "remaster"
Sony are doing this worse than R*
Creative bankruptcy and this isn't for most PS5 owners. I'd understand if this was done on PS6 but this is too early after a re-release not even 10 years ago.
@JudgeDredd never mind 70 dollars. 70 POUND. That's about 90 of your dollars. English players getting ripped off yet again.
@Richnj Saint's Row could join that list soon, I reckon, waiting for the SR3 + SR4 PS5 version bundle just before the new one releases
It barely has any major improvements. That's how good tlou 1 was.
At $70? They can go f themselves unless they have a major multiplayer component to it.
Attention anyone who is attempting to plat LOU1 remastered. Get it done asap, now they've leaked this the servers for that one will go soon.
As I’ve said from day one, what a joke and this is stupid as hell for PlayStation console owners.
They say they worked on this because no new project was lined up or ready…………..
How in the hell do you not have a project lined up in a business like this?
@Marquez We already have the Nvidia leak that's been proven completely accurate as well as Returnal and Sackboy PC screenshots.
Sony's own investor report stated it wants half of its games on PC by 2025. It's time to face reality that Sony's conditioning its console owners into accepting future multiplatform releases.
@RevGaming that's what I'm saying £70 for a remake is vile this is a money grab of the highest order. Sony should be ashamed
Dang, I really do need to find a PS5 somehow.
Last played this on ps3 years ago. Loved every minute of it back than. Skipped on tlou 2. The more this becomes a mainstream franchise the more it seems to put me off somehow.
I'm guessing it's a ground-up remake, judging from those shots. Re-built in the sequel's engine, probably with the same gameplay mechanics and, hopefully, expanded sections (probably to bloat it to 25hrs!)
@Resi32 The PS3 MP still works so I'm not so sure on that. Especially since the PS4 version works on PS5.
Unless there are MAJOR gameplay changes, I couldn’t be less interested in this.
Cool. Can't wait to pirate this game I bought twice on PC.
Blatant cash grab unfortunately this will succeed in its aim to make Sony money and to sell you the same game a 3rd time
@jrt87 same I can't stand the sequel put me off playing these games ever again!
@commentlife there isn't
Having seen the trailer, this is looking more like an enhanced remaster. So it's not even a remake.
It looks more Demon Souls than Crash Bandicoot.
Doesn't look "built from the ground up" and the way I'd use that phrase. Voice and cinematic animations all look the same, so plenty of reused assets.
Maybe the better gameplay of the second combined with the better story of the first would be good? I played both once and that was plenty.
I already know how it ends, so no need to play it over at $70
This is why good AAA 3rd party support is so important when choosing a system - you do not need hardware makers to carry the system for 12 months.
I am interested on how it will run on SteamDeck if on Steam. I bought HZD for $17 just to test it - if this gets cheap enough I'll do the same.
Ah, another one of our games that you're giving away?
Thanks for the free game Jim.
Clearly you don't care about your primary customers anymore so I don't care about your platform since there is no reason to own it.
TLoU 2 has been out for long enough it should've been a bundle or a loss leader to get people to upgrade to the PS+ Extra or Premium levels...
Why do I even need this at any price when there's a good remake I already own on PS4? You'd need to add value to convince me to buy again at all, and you can't really argue that there's a large install base on PS5, let alone a large number of people who never owned a PS4. Who is this for?
@get2sammyb I indeed might be underestimating the sales potential. Personally, despite adoring the game and considering it one of PS3 top games, I’m not going to double dip unless there’s something that knocks reviewers socks off. But the synergy with the TV show could be substantial for moving units with the population at large.
How to announce the delay of God of War Ragnarok without officially announcing the delay.
@get2sammyb
Agree with that. Imo, TLoU 1 - above average, though not spectaular gameplay carried by a great story. TLoU 2 - Weak story, absolutely phenomenal combat. I wouldn't say I'm clamoring for a TLoU 1 remake but if it has TLoU 2 gameplay, or somehow it takes that gameplay and tweaks it to be even better, on top of that already great story? I can't lie, I'll buy that.
I've played it twice and I loved it but I'm not likely to play it again. I don't replay games often! It's fantastic and if they update the gameplay, I'm sure it will be top tier. Hope those who haven't played it pick it up and enjoy it
@NoxAeturnus It for the people who wasn't old enough to play it when it originally came out, for the new fans who are gonna be introduced to the franchise after seeing the HBO TV show, the PC gamers, gamers who are buying their first Playstation console with PS5.
Knowing how certain things play out in the sequel I'm not sure if I want to get this one on any platform. Last time I played part 1 was 10 years ago on PS3. Played through it twice, I think that's enough for me
@OrtadragoonX I played the first game when it released wayyy back on the PS3, got about halfway then I started something else and never finished it.
I own it on PS3, PS4 and soon PS5 so I better get on it this fall 😅
Sds interesting,loved both games for slightly different reasons and if ,the ps5 version of lou1 is upto what gamers expect of a remake, then it will still sell very well I think ,I'll might buy it if the gameplay is upto or better than lou2 ,but we will have to see how it all pans out ,I have a sneaky feeling it'll be very very good
@AverageGamer Ah, right, TV show. Forgot about that. If they're hoping to convert people from that to console gaming I think they'll be disappointed.
@NoxAeturnus It worked with the Witcher.
@SolaceCreed ps3 mp servers went down in 2019 when lou2 came out. In fact virtually the same day
At least the toxic bigots can calm down now
@AverageGamer It certainly boosted book sales. I'd have to see a metric to believe that people whose first experience with The Witcher was the TV show ran out and bought the game to play it. Maybe a few people here and there, but in large numbers? I doubt it.
@NoxAeturnus https://venturebeat.com/2020/02/13/witcher-netflix-game-sales/
@AverageGamer Honestly not that big a boost. Up 63% year over year when the Switch port is excluded. Making it available on a new system had a much bigger impact. The prior year was 2018 in which it sold about 3 million copies. In June 2019 CDPR said lifetime sales of Witcher 3 were 20 million or so. So a modest half million boost from the TV show. Not bad. But considering that S1 of the TV show had more than 500 million viewers in its first month, I think it's safe to say that a sizeable portion of show watchers were not converted to game players. Still, you're probably right, TLOU rerelease around show's launch will probably boost sales. And obviously they didn't put much money into the rerelease, and it's overpriced, so it's an easy win for them.
Why am I not surprised they leaked it themselves before the big reveal XD.
