Itching to play some Street Fighter on your PS5 or PS4 after the announcement of Street Fighter 6 recently? Well, heads up: the original vanilla version of Street Fighter 2 is free from the PS Store for everyone right now. You don’t need a PS Plus subscription to play, and it’s yours to keep once you’ve added it to your Game Library.
This version comes as part of the Capcom Arcade Stadium framework, so you’ll also get stone-cold shooter classic 1943: The Battle of Midway as part of your download. Obviously you can still choose to buy additional games in the bundle, either as a collection or individually. But if you just want to play Street Fighter 2 and 1943: The Battle of Midway, then knock your socks off – they’re free!

Excellent, now downloading it
You mean I can download SF2 for free right now?
Shor-yu-kan!!
(Sure you can)
I'll get my coat.
Absolute bargain, the very first arcade game I ever played and still great fun
Puts a smile on my face and remember paying £120 back in 1992/93 for the SNES version with an adaptor. Must have played that game for thousands of ours with our kid
@Luigia My Aunty brought me SF2 Turbo from America but it kept resetting until the updated adapter came out. I could occasionally get all the way up to M Bison (Balrog in the US version I think) but it would always reset before the end
You Should Have Wrote Go Home And Be Family Man Sammy.
I still remember paying $70 for this on the SNES almost 30 years ago! Always funny when people whine about $70 games nowadays lol!
Will be my first street fighter experience!
Ha yes, how many times have I bought the various versions of this game, I've lost count, the Japanese Capcom Generations version on the Saturn may still be my favourite offline version. Still, nice to have this version for free on PS4, thanks for the heads up! I remember my parents buying me Special Champion Edition and a 6 button controller for my Mega Drive, I think the game alone cost about £60 at the time, but I still have the cart (and the pad still works), so decent value for money over 30 years or so.
This is clearly a big Capcom promotion, most likely on every platform. I noticed this game was free on Steam a couple of days ago and now it's available on PSN.
Went to claim it and realised I have it already. Must've been a PS Plus game some point.
This is great indeed!
@Futureshark top notch line.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Street Fighter 2
@redd214 i bet $70 was easier to come by back then ,
$70 now is bull
@Ninjadeath2023 aww and sorry to hear that, as I had the PAL version, probably inferior to the NTSC version.
In the good old days we had less games but cared about them more.
Enjoy the best game ever created for free everybody!
@nomither6 lol, well that's a bet you would certainly lose bud!
Nice one, I remember having it for my amiga back in the day. Will add it to my ps4 and maybe my switch too if it is also available on there. I hardly use my switch lite, so this will be motivation to play it 😂
Is there a PS5 version or just PS4?
I have fond memories of spending my lunch hour going over to the bowling alley over the road from work to play the arcade of Street Fighter II when I was in my early twenties.
@JohnnyShoulder The video shop near my house had the Champion Edition coin op at the time, used to play it on the way home from school. They swapped it out later for the unofficial 'Rainbow / Black Belt Edition', which was totally unbalanced, but fun to play!
@Ristar24 mine too...😀 must have been a thing for video shops to have a dodgy version down in the back corner. Video shops were great
@Deljo Ha yep, they were, and they started renting Mega Drive games, which was handy as they cost so much back then.
@messimagician it's PS4 only but works on PS5. I don't think there is a need for a separate PS5 version, this would run on a Mega Drive.
@Ristar24 I also remember seeing it (and the different versions) in various kebab shops and the like over the years. Playing it after I've had a few drinks was not a good idea lol.
@Barryburton97 yeah I know what you mean it's when they put it in the headline "PS5" so I'm looking for the PS5 version rather than just say PS4
It only lets you play midway.
