Very recently, we received the first gameplay trailer for The Callisto Protocol, a very promising action horror game from the minds behind Dead Space. Now, as part of Summer Game Fest, we have our first raw gameplay footage, and flippin' heck, it's grisly.
In it, we see protagonist Jacob Lee making his way through a decrepit room, coming up against those freaky monsters, and taking them down with something that looks a lot like the Plasma Cutter. There's a mix of ranged and melee combat shown, and it's all incredibly violent. However, the gore is at its most brazen with a player death sequence, in which Jacob gets his arm caught in some big, spinning machinery. Ouch.
What do you think of the gameplay for The Callisto Protocol? Keep your hands by your sides in the comments section below.

This is SO over the top Dead Space, I absolutely love it. Day 1.
EA doesn't do it, so I guess someone has to
¯(ツ)/¯
This looks so dam good. Can’t wait!
this is Dead space 4 count me in
Definitely day 1 buy!
Nothing in this game was as grotesque as The Rock plugging an energy drink.
😉
Nah, this looks sick in so many ways. I'm definitely interested in playing it.
@BoldAndBrash but ea is remaking the first one
This looks amazing!!
This game looks so ridiculously good. Almost to the point it seem unreal. Its basically a beefed up version of Dead Space, and im all in for it.
Don't make me break my "wait a year" policy.
@alexbolton2
A decade too late after ruining Visceral Games.
I'll take it for sure, but they're a bunch of wimps and wanna test the waters for interest first.
These guys meanwhile actually make a triple A spiritual successor, so yeah
Though they do need to tweak the feeling of the gun and the impact. Dead Space was insane with that and this doesn't even come close
This will be my first Dead Space like game I’m excited!
@BoldAndBrash i agree it is a decade wayyyy to late i've been saying for years they need to make the first dead space. @mrtennis1990 it is so good if you have access to a pc or a ps3/ 360 i recommend playing it on original hardware first.
@alexbolton2 I’ll definitely check it out! Thanks!
As soon as I saw him do the stomp, I knew this was gonna be good.
@mrtennis1990 @alexbolton2 You don't even need an original 360 or PS3. The 360 versions are available on the Xbox One/Series.
@Richnj you're right yes totally forgot about that. that's where i beat it last lol.
It actually looks too much like Dead Space to me. I'd rather play Dead Space Remake and Fort Solis, honestly, and try The Callisto Protocol when it drops in price.
So Resident Evil in space? I’m in never played dead space so this looks like a good place to start.
He even got that dead space walk.yep this game is gonna be amazing.word up son
Just take my money now! Can't wait for this. No question this is essentially Dead Space 4. The health bar, the ammo counters, the walk, the stomping mechanism, the 3rd person over the shoulder perspective, the environments all reek of Dead Space. I'm just gonna say it now - this is going to be a better game than the Dead Space remake (which I'm sure will be excellent as well).
Best part of the show. Looks like gunplay will feel great too. Probably day 1
Looks great, but not gonna lie, the enemy design is boring me to tears. From the folks who brought us the necromorphs, I was expecting a bit more creativity. Hopefully there are some fun (read: awful & horrifying) surprises in store for us that they haven't shown yet!
This looks like the spiritual successor I always wanted. A rare pre-order completed.
@gollumb82 Almost like it's from the dead space creators themselves.
@Nepp67
You misunderstood me. It basically seems to be the same game. While I love Dead Space I don't know why I would buy this with the DS remake coming out shotly after.
@gollumb82 So let me get this straight you're going to buy a remake of a game with small changes here and there that has held up well with its gameplay and graphics from the 360 era over an entirely new experience that has similar gameplay? Where's the logic here? You love Dead Space but won't buy Callisto Protocol which is very clearly a spiritual successor to Dead Space and from the devs that made it.
@Nepp67
The logic is that it's the same game 🙂 The entire time I was watching the trailer I was thinking: that's Dead Space. It feels more like a rip off rather than a spiritual successor to me. Fort Solis seems at least somewhat different. Same can be said about Deliver Us Mars (I'm sucker for thriller/horror games set in space). With money being tight and having to choose, I'll go for the original.
@gollumb82 Please do tell me where the necromorphs are, where is the USG Ishimura, where is the main focus of the gameplay being to cut off the limbs instead of simply aiming for the head to kill an enemy. You go do you, but I will happily take a fresh and new experience from the creators that made Dead Space over a remake. Lol
@Nepp67
I guess you didn't see the same weapons (save for the gravity gun), the dismemberment mechanic is still very much a focus (judging by the trailer). The monsters may as well be necromorphs. The location in the trailer looks like the Med bay on Ishimura...Ah, nevermind. As you said, you do you.
One of the biggest surprises of the year!
I won't be buying this day one sadly, but it's definitely on my radar!
Loved the original Dead Space games and I'm sure I'll enjoy their spiritual successor as well.
