The Last of Us: Part I could be almost double the file size of the game's PS4 remaster when it releases on PS5 on 2nd September 2022. As pointed out by Novice Gamer Guides, promotional pages for the remake list a minimum of 79GB to store the game on your SSD, which is up significantly from the 48GB HDD requirement of The Last of Us Remastered.
Of course, The Last of Us: Part I is more than a like-for-like remake on PS5. The game will be running on an updated version of Naughty Dog's engine, and is expected to feel more like The Last of Us: Part II with "modernised gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options. Plus, feel immersed with improved effects and enhanced exploration and combat."
These additions and changes likely mean the developer simply has much more to pack into the PS5 remake, thus dramatically increasing the title's file size. Plus, art assets will be presented at a much higher resolution. One recent example used the PS3 model of Tess during a pivotal cutscene and compared it to the PS5 version. The results were impressive.
Of course, these sorts of claims made during promotional material and other examples pulled off PSN servers can be inaccurate, but it still gives you an idea of what's going into the sequel. The Last of Us: Part I is out for PS5 on 2nd September 2022, so you've got a few months to make space for it. What will you delete to make room? Make the tough decision in the comments below.

Makes sense, part 2 is about 100gb. I played the original way too many times to jump right on this one, but after a sale, I'll probably get it. One of the least needed remakes but still cool for fans I guess.
Don't need to delete anything as I only keep up to 3 games on my SSD at all times. As for the game, I can't wait!
Going to be epic!
It is an amazing game and one of my favourites from the PS3 era, but another remaster / remake.
Whatever happened to new games for a new generation.
Im including the green team in this as well, they even worse and some third party developers.
I have an expanded M.2 ssd, and gigabit internet; I'm ready for giant file sizes. lol
I don't need to delete anything as I'm not going to buy a remake of a 9 year old game for £70.
@Pat_trick Especially when the PS4 Remaster is available with the basic PS Plus membership on the PS5.
The 1TB SSD was a wise investment.
Wow. I'm convinced. I'd like to pay £90 for this game now considering how much extra they're putting into it.
all the more reason to avoid this cash grab nonsense
double the file size and no multiplayer
Does anyone else think this will lead to the sequel getting a native PS5 release?
@Pat_trick If you can't use Google, you deserve to pay £70
@marty8370 The point is Sony is trying to sell something for way more than it should be sold. But thanks for the tip, you're so clever. I hope one day I grow up to be as cool as you are.
To all saying it is a cash grabber, you are not main people for this.
It is for new players coming in after watching tv serie.
Also for putting game on pc for first time.
We all know you would complain if they only made new game for pc and not ps5.
If I do upgrade my SSD I'll do a 2 or 4 TB. Just so I don't have to do it again.
In the meantime, I'll wait for a sale. Lol.
Gonna wait for the ps6 version tbh. I hopefully by that time it will be so big they’ll split it into several parts… and replace Joel with a cat.
I fully expected it to be considerably larger than the PS4 version. I'm fine with that since I'm getting the physical release. Like other Sony exclusives, I'll likely be able to just install the game completely from the disc (plus a day 1 patch if there is one). The fact that PS5 games are on UHD discs is one of my favorite things about the PS5. That and the compression, all making sticking with physical copies of games really worthwhile (unlike on the Series X).
As for the game, I played the remastered version and I'm still excited for this. To be able to blend together the best parts of the series, which would be the original's story with the graphics and gameplay of the sequel, should make this an incredible game.
@Pat_trick sarcasm at its greatest. Haha
I finally caved and was fortunate enough to buy myself a PS5. Loving it so far but am quite annoyed that transferring my PS4 games from an external HDD to another larger HDD is an absolute kick in the nuts. I'm having to move content from my HDD to internal storage. Then unplug that storage. Then plug in the new storage. Then transfer from internal to the new HDD. And then repeat because the internal storage isn't big enough to hold all of my games. 😡
Also, why can't PlayStation allow games to be stored on an 8tb external drive with its own power supply???
On my Series X I have 2 8tb external drives and 1tb Seagate expansion card. I can move any game to whatever area of storage I want very easily.
Please, please fix these issues Sony! It's really upsetting me and detracting from a wonderful, wonderful machine. ☹️
Did NaughtyDog 1000% confirm that the original Factions MP and maps will not be included in the Part1 PS5 remake?
Im not talking about the new Factions MP, BR or whatever it is bc that was said to be next year.
@trev666 I would be fine with triple the file size if I don't have to play that abysmal multiplayer again
