Once again, PS5 stock returning to store shelves has seen Aloy take the throne atop the UK's physical games chart. Horizon Forbidden West was in second last week, but returns to number one thanks to an increase in PS5 availability. It's pretty clear that buyers are grabbing a copy of the action RPG alongside their brand new console; a whole 95 per cent of the game's sales went to the PS5 version. As we've said before, when people can actually buy one of Sony's elusive machines, its first-party games have some real staying power in the bestsellers.
Speaking of which, Gran Turismo 7 has slipped back a couple of spaces into 10th, meaning the top 10 is bookended by PlayStation Studios software. The scales are once again heavily in favour of the PS5 version, which claims 85 per cent of the share.
Sniper Elite 5 debuted at number one but it's now fallen to eighth, while LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga remains in a healthy third place. Making a surprise resurgence is WWE 2K22, up from 35th all the way to number seven, presumably thanks to some kind of sale.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.

Great game, good to see!
No Elden Ring? Does the UK not have a big Elden Ring fan base? Or did everyone who wanted it already buy it, play through it, and are now catching up on other great releases, like Horizon FW?
Anyone else wondering if HFW didnt sell to Sony liking? They havent announced any Sales Numbers which they usally do if they are pleased...
@jgrangervikings1 These are the physical Games Charts only. I assume ER is selling better digital now
I don’t want to be one of those guys who pits games against each other—especially Elden Ring vs Horizon cuz that was extremely annoying and toxic—but it’s so weird that people keep on saying the industry forgot about Horizon, when it definitely has legs (especially for being PlayStation exclusive and not multiplat)
@Deoxyr1bose Games media are mostly anti-Sony right now. Seems like journos are maybe tired of the Sony style games (big budget single player) while actual gamers are not. I’ve had friends that have Xbox’s come over and horizon blows their minds. They generally aren’t even aware of most big PlayStation games
Glad to see HFW and GT7 flying the flag for PlayStation in the charts. Kinda surprised that Elden Ring hasn’t returned to the top ten for a few weeks now though.
@Shstrick Games journalism is a strange beast. It feeds itself the same trends and then goes in circles chasing it's current favourite flavour. It finds issues where there are none, and unfortunately in some cases it sets the tone for discussion amongst enthusiasts.
There's no one site to single out here by the way. Go to any multi-platform site since 2016 and you'll see it.
I don't think they even realise they're doing it.
Eventually it gets tired of what it's eating and goes back the other way. Watch what happens in a few years when the honeymoon period for Game Pass ends and PlayStation finishes it's current transition phase.
It's already started to happen in some places.
@Shstrick
Horizon sits at 88 on Metacritic. GT 7 at 87. I wouldn't say journos are hating on Sony.
Those stats make one thing abundantly clear: Sony has no real incentive whatsoever to continue with their current cross-gen strategy. Almost the entire base has moved on to the new console, so, like it or not, the success of the games they publish is going to be heavily reliant on their ability to continue manufacturing PS5 consoles to sate pent-up demand.
@Shstrick what should you expect from Xbox fans that only know about backwards compatibility and game pass? They aren’t used to get such great games.
Horizon is going to have long legs.
@Gamer83 indeed, reviewers don't seem to be hating on Sony, but news articles sure tend to be overly negative when it comes to Sony. It's been the case ever since the ps3 days.
Every time Sony messes up, they are accused of being "arrogant" like the ps3 days or of being "complacent" (I see that all the time here).
@Deoxyr1bose they said that back when it was indeed underperforming, perhaps due to all the negativity surrounding it. They were right then. Now, I hardly see anyone make such a statement about it.
@Quintumply - "It's pretty clear that buyers are grabbing a copy of the action RPG alongside their brand new console"
Actually, you have no choice as the only PS5s available are in the HFW bundle pack for £500.
@Ralizah as above, every PS5 you can get your hands on includes a copy of HFW so the figures are somewhat skewed!
Also, I suspect PS4 owners still somewhat object to paying £70 for a new game when it would've cost them £50 in previous years.
PS5 owners also seem desperate to grab anything that shows the superiority of their console, though there is the whiff of a PS4 Pro Plus (only uglier) to the white wonder until Sony and 3rd Party devs can get something truly next gen out of the door.
@naruball
Fair. I can't speak to what others see, I just go off what I've seen and I think right now journalists and 'influencers' are just writing articles and making videos for clicks, playing off the outrage of gamers. Whatever company is the 'flavor of the week' to hate on, that's who will get it the most. That's why I tend to skip over articles or videos with clickbait titles these days.
@jgrangervikings1 I believe H:FW sold a little below expectations initially whereas Elden Ring surpassed all expectations immediately as launch. Therefore it's logical that H:FW is enjoying a longer tail and catching up, whereas Elden Ring blew it's load early Though I haven't picked it up yet. Still to play Sekiro! They're near the top of the backlog.
@Gamer83 It's good that you skip them, because most of the rest of us don't and we send a clear message to video game website owners: if you want clicks, be as negative as possible, even if you have to twist the truth. Act like you're upset, disappointed, etc. That will definitely increase traffic. No matter how much people complain about it, the point is that they do click on the article, most of the time repeatedly to follow the debate.
Horizon’s performance here is truly something considering not long ago most people dismissed it as boring and familiar. Not just average users mind but high profile game reviewers on YouTube also seemed to dig at it. People don’t seem to have gotten tired of Lego Star Wars yet meanwhile.
@Blackjay
I got tired of both but have gone back to HFW. I love the first and want to love the sequel as well.
@jgrangervikings1 I said before release that Souls-like games have a ceiling in terms of popularity/sales. Looks like we are seeing that. They are clearly not mainstream games.
