Fortnite’s latest live event, Collision, has concluded Chapter 3 Season 2 with an extraordinary mech battle sequence. The roughly 15-or-so minute set-piece saw squads of four – this author teamed up with soccer star Neymar Jr and Obi-Wan Kenobi – help commandeer a mech, which was tasked with taking down the Collider – a monument fans will already be familiar with on the island.
While largely scripted, the production values of this one-time sequence were absolutely wild. Players were tasked with taking out tanks, rival mechs, and incoming missiles – before being plunged underground for a final battle with Slone. Here, both series mascot Jones and The Foundation – voiced by The Rock – tagged along to help out.
You can watch the full event below:
Fortnite is offline now until the new season arrives, which is rumoured to include characters like Darth Vader, who was momentarily teased during the event. In the meantime, the game is pumping out some procedurally generated lo-fi beats, powered by the Unreal Engine. Then, we do it all again tomorrow with the start of a new season. With that in mind, Epic Games has released an early look at some of the skins you can expect in Season 3 through here.

If this is epic and extraordinary gaming, then kill me
games as a service is the best thing to happen to gaming . epic indeed ! 👍
It’s all just so corporate. Partly the art style, partly the carefully planned intellectual properties releasing the same time as they’re advertising something. It’s the game equivalent of a third-rate British comedian turning up on Wogan to flog their autobiography.
Damn, some people are just downers. It was ok for what it was...I'm sure you guys played worst crap in other games lol
@BReal
1) It's free
2) It doesn't affect you
3) It's groundbreaking in terms of how far technology and online gaming has come. You might have seen multiplayer games, but I have never seen one where you could just play space invaders while in an island destroying mech then go meet up with Troy Baker and The Rock all while filling the lore of a game and also seeing Darth Vader duel Obi Wan
@JosephTheSheik Spot on. Doesn’t take away from anything else. If anything it makes more money for the devs & studios to invest in other ventures.
I’ll never play Fortnite but it’s still pretty cool how creative they have gotten.
Also it’s ‘football’ @get2sammyb 😂
Lots of negative Nancy’s lol this was easily the best live event to date. My Nephew’s were so hyped and it didn’t disappoint. So many awesome moments, the biggest probably being the Darth Vader reveal. They just went crazy for that. Whatever people say about Fortnite, it’s great to experience this with them. We can’t wait for next season! Well done Epic Games for another amazing season finale! 👏🤘
Edit: our squad was made up of Lara Croft, Harley Quinn, Iron Man and Deadpool 😁
@Fight_Teza_Fight Dam right, it's football not soccer!
@JosephTheSheik
1. Being a free game doesn’t remove it from being able to be criticised nor does it gain it any “extra credit”. It’s judged on what it is
2. It does affect me as I have distaste and contempt for it
3. Those things aren’t groundbreaking, you are literally describing inconsequential fluff that’s akin with nonsense
Real downers here. I played it and I thought it was fun! It didn't need to be anything groundbreaking for me to Enjoy it, Because it was fun, and thats what video games need to be at the end of the day anyway.
@BritneyfR_ee Oh yeah, darth doesn't have a skin yet does he? That was cool! My squad was Mando, Master chief, a anime skin of name I don't remember, and another skin with a bomb head, and I played it with a friend!
@JosephTheSheik Yep, this. Thank you.
@BReal awwwww boohoo a free game hurt your gamer sensitivities. Get over yourself or stay mad. Yes you are mad.
Hopefully you're taking notes, Sony, cause this is how you do a live services/gaas/ whatever these kids call it nowadays games. Please don't give us Halo Infinite levels of trash.
"People are stupid and dumb and doo doo heads and smell like steamed cabbage for enjoying things I don't like!" -Most gamers
However you feel about the game you gotta give Fortnite credit where it is due, most of their live events (and the 'endings' that comes with them) are still some of the most creative and/or fun experiences I ever seen in a video game and this one is no different. Epic stuff Epic Games.👍🎉
Never played Fortnite, probably never will, but I enjoy watching these big end of season events. As you said production value is great.
@DestructionAllstars whatever label you put on it I will continue to do that 100%
@BritneyfR_ee completely agree. I rarely play fortnite in my own but my son is a big fan and I quite often play it with him and we both thought it was amazing and great fun. My son got so excited when he saw Darth Vader, and he barely knows Star wars. Dont know why people have to be so down on it. Don't like it, don't play it. I never really enjoyed Game of thrones but I'd never criticise the other millions of people who loved it. People have different opinions and that's great!
